Yahoo: Why the OSU case is worse than that of USC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Unfortunately, I'm not sure Talbot profiting from these kids is illegal.

Paying them is, and we'll see how that plays out...But he could sell this stuff all day, make his money and never give the kids a dime of it.

In your heart you have to know some of this is true (not all the allegations, but enough of them) and this will not end well for OSU. It is looking like OSU should hope they dont get anything more than what USC received as a punishment.

Max, I talked to Boobie and none of this is true. OSU had one bad apple and had no way of knowing any of this. No way OSU gets anything close to USC.

Sick burn...

Wake me when we find out that the Ohio State coaches or anyone employed with the university facilitated this.

So....now the NCAA is going to punish them further because some sleazeball is selling autographs?

I have no doubt most of this story is true, and that Talbot is profiting very well off the athletes at OSU.

But again, wake me when this implies that any of the coaches or university staff had anything to do with his "alleged paying players".....

Even if he did pay them, it looks worse for the player.

So...why do you think he is pulling his 100's of items from ebay, changing all his screen names, scrubbing sites, etc?

Because he is being investigated for allegedly paying Terrelle Pryor.

Which won't be too damaging to the university unless we find out Ohio State had knowledge of the situation. Explains why Pryor left though, and will leave a huge mark on his legacy. We'll see if they can actually prove any of it though.

And unfortunately for the Yahoo article, the checks passed to Pryor weren't into his bank account...which means Ohio State has yet to be implicated in any of this.

Regardless, the real crime here is that Dennis Talbot is profiting off hundreds of NCAA athletes....I don't think anyone can argue that. Well, except for the NCAA of course...

If he's not doing anything wrong, I would see no reason to pull all the items.

So much for innocent until proven guilty, eh?

You don't think continuing to profit of amateur athletes while under investigation for paying them sends the wrong message?

Your defense of the Buckeyes and Pryor reminded me of something and I couldn't think of it till today

Great links, but nobody can argue the fact this article is full of BS....

I mean...how is it not obvious to some that OSU is being flamed by the media right now.

BREAKING NEWS: PRYOR INDULGED IN GOLF!!!

BREAKING NEWS: TRESSEL EMAILED HIS ATHLETIC DIRECTOR!!!

I mean...it's just plainly obvious at this point the media is just searching for chum in the water.

doesnt matter. autograph sessions are not an ncaa infraction. Having reporters buy their own merchandise to include in the signing is not illegal.

and since its been over a year. seems kind of clear once his side business was discovered he was deprived access.

as far as ginn iterms being sold. just because he is selling him doesnt mean that ginn was paid to sign the merchandise.

once again.

the ncaa could prhibit players from signing merchandise. prohibit autograph sessions. is the best way to ensure this memorbilia is not sold . by anyone.

anyways the media and the NCAA can make all the accusations they want. Terrel isnt talking to the NCAA anymore he doesnt have to

While I do agree with some of what you say boobie, there seems to be far to many stories coming out about OSU and possible violations. Some likely hold no weight, but with the sheer number of accusations involving different people, something else is likely to come out of it besides just the tattoo situation and Tressel gate. I think the biggest clue that there is some wrong doing with Talbott is the amount of game used stuff he has. These players aren't just going to give that away for nothing, at least the majority of them anyway.

You're right though. It's pretty much impossible to say with 100% certainty that any of this is true. We'll likely never find out what actually happened until the NCAA ruling because no one is going to put their names in the paper. However, the NCAA investigation is sealed testimony, so people will likely be more inclined to talk.

So far OSU is acting like they had no knowledge of anything at all. In my mind that seems worse than having knowledge. No knowledge? Really?

Quite often the case. We knew that OJ was guilty, but the burden of proof wasn't on him to be acquitted. I'm trying to make the connection, through the info that Max provided, that incriminates the players who were signing the memorabilia. How can a logical connection be found that proves this guy paid players because that is the salient point here, not the character investigation against Talbott.

The media is hawking around Columbus like they've never done before. You're going to get a story. Whether or not the countless accusations and alleged connections can be substantiated is a whole other story.

I like to think about it as the media being a little kid trying his very hardest to help his older brother do his homework.
