Your 2018 Browns Plans!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This team is 1-31 in their last two seasons. They just completed an 0-16 season. I would buy into all the comments any of these players make in the coming weeks. There's going to be a lot of company line bs mixed in with some no comments and players speaking just for themselves depending on their contract situation.

I mean, there's a big difference between saying you want to end your career somewhere and saying the company line. Most guys would just say, "Well, I'm under contract next year" if they want out. That's the company line bullshit we hear most of the time.

Just saying that Terrelle Pryor said similar things while he was here.

He's gonna say this but already has made it known to Terrelle Pryor that he wants to force his way out?

Pryor wants back in Cleveland.

AJ McCarron or Alex Smith in free agency or via trade. The more i think about it i want to build a nasty defense so i'm going BPA on def with both 1st round picks. Grab a RB in round 2-3 along with more defense and maybe OL or WR. Sign WR & Pass Rusher in free agency.

2018 additions that also includes a new Off Coordinator. I think this would be a HR offseason.

QB McCarron - If Hue's here it's gonna happen so just embrace it...
WR - Allen Robinson/Marquise Lee

1 -Minka Fitzpatrick - Maybe trade back several spots.
1 - Denzel Ward
2 - Ronnie Harrison
2 - Harris/Chubb/Johnson/Jones/Guice - Some mocks have him early second but i think he goes mid-late 1st. Pretty much still get your pick at RB.
2 - Christian Kirk
3 - Jerome Baker

Unacceptable. We have to draft a QB unless we sign somebody like Cousins. McCarron or Smith won't cut it except as a bridge to the top draft pick.

McCarron isn't even good. No idea why we'd consider signing him as anything other than a placeholder.

This could also be interpreted as Duke wanting to play somewhere else next year......

C'mon man.. You can make someone say anything you want if you selectively believe/not believe what comes out of one's mouth. :chuckle:

Not to mention, 2017 literally just ended. So, saying bye to 2017 is probably the regular interpretation.

Pryor wants back in Cleveland.

I think Pryor knows that with the Browns and Hue he can extend his NFL career. He will be 29 next season and if he has another season like he had with the Redskins, he is basically done in the NFL. Hue and the Browns will give him the benefit of the doubt. It's the best place for him to succeed with his familiarity with the system and the ability to basically play every skill position on offense.

I think McCarron if given the opportunity has a great chance of an Alex Smith type career.

Let's take a quick run through some options for this off-season.

Ideally, I'd like to add both Ryan (OC, play-caller) and Zampese (Off. Asst.)

Then let's take a look at free agency:

QB
Cousins and Garoppolo aren't happening.

Tier 1: Alex Smith - Best QB on the market, but comes with a price attached. Connected to Dorsey, and the Chiefs need the cap space.

Tier 2: Sam Bradford - Another knee injury and subsequent surgery, but when on the field he's been borderline elite. Will come at a reduced cost, but a tough sell as a free agent and a short leash head coach.

Tier 3: Chase Daniel, Josh McCown, Colin Kaepernick

RB
LeVeon Bell = Not happening

Tier 1: Carlos Hyde - Elite dual threat back with excellent pass blocking to boot. Will struggle to find suitors, and has Ohio ties. Browns should really pony up here, IMO. Great fit for both.

Tier 2: Isaiah Crowell, Rex Burkhead, Orleans Darkwa - Crowell is a tough re-sign IMO, given his misuse this season. Burkhead has Hue and Zampese ties. Darkwa is a low key dual threat guy.

Tier 3: Jeremy Hill, Jamaal Charles - Retreads with ties to the FO/Staff.

X WR:
Tier 1: Allen Robinson - One of the best in the league coming off a knee injury. Tough sell, as any free agent is, but the Browns can give him #1 money that other teams may shy away from.

Tier 2: Jordan Matthews, Jarvis Landry, Marquis Lee, Sammy Watkins, Paul Richardson, Terrelle Pryor, Donte Moncrief

Tier 3: Jeff Janis

Z WR:

Tier 1 - Albert Wilson - Matchup slot guy with ties to the FO

Tier 2 - Michael Campanaro, De'Anthony Thomas

CB:

Tier 1: Kyle Fuller, EJ Gaines, Aaron Colvin

Tier 2: Trumain Johnson, Vontae Davis

Tier 3: Phillip Gaines, Davon House

S:

Tier 1: Tre Boston - Back up the truck, dump it on him. Stud.

Tier 2: Eric Reid, Lamarcus Joyner - Don't see this happening, Joyner does have ties (albeit likely poor ones) to Gregg Williams.

Tier 3: Nate Allen

If I had my way, here is my shakedown. Pre free-agency.

Sign:

Sam Bradford or trade for Alex Smith
Carlos Hyde or Jamaal Charles
Allen Robinson or Matthews/Pryor/Lee

Draft (Rosen says no):
1-2 (Trade w/ NYG for a 2nd round pick) - Sam Darnold - QB - USC

1-4 - Minkah Fitzpatrick - CB - Alabama

2-32 - Sony Michel - RB - Georgia - Balance, tackle-breaking, speed, power. Everything you want, but struggles with fumbles.

2-33 - Christian Kirk - WR - Texas A&M - Dynamic Z receiver who can make plays everywhere.

2-35 - Tyrell Crosby - T - Oregon - The future LT gets a chance to compete at RT and be groomed.

2-60 - DeShon Elliot - S - Texas - Jumped onto the scene as a premier CF, perfect for the Angel role to compete with Nacua.

3-65 - Tegray Scales - LB - Indiana - Elite talent and first round ability, hasn't stayed out of trouble.

4 - Mason Cole - C - Michigan - The Browns are pretty good here, but Cole can play all three interior positions. Tretter was good, not great this past year.

4 (CAR) - Tyquan Lewis - DE - Ohio State - Doesn't get the notoriety as elite, but a solid all-around game and the size to play a role in the NFL.

5 - Chase Edmonds - RB - Fordham - My favorite sleeper of 2018, dominated his level, but his traits make him a future NFL 3rd down back.

5 (KC) - Michael Dickson - P - Texas - Best punter to enter the draft in a decade plus. True weapon.

6 - Ian Thomas - TE - Indiana - Under the radar guy, but could compete for the third TE spot occupied by Telfer.

7 - Rashaan Gaulden - CB - Tennessee - Surprise early entrant, probably should have stuck around. But he's a decent player, and has a chance to stick.
