2012 Offseason: Quarterbacks

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
At this point I'd rather draft Blackman and see what Colt can do with a full offseason with some offensive playmakers and a full training camp with the team and Shurmer. I don't think any QB can do good with awful protection and WR's that can't catch. In order to get Luck we would have to give up a lot and RGIII would be nice to have but he would come on a team with no playmakers. Get that great receiver and see what Colt can do. If he sucks then we get our QB next draft.

Unfortuntely I think we'd see Blackmon get open. Colt read it late, throw it late, and get picked off. Colt's used to the garage door space in college, he hasn't adapted to the windows of space in the NFL. It's not Big 12 garbage teams anymore and I don't think he has the physical tools necessary to be a successful QB.

RG3 and Kendall Wright, Floyd, or Jeffery in Round 1. Thought I'd be cool with going with DeCastro at RG.

I wouldn't mind RGIII and one of those receivers but you would be willing to give up on Colt after one full season but with it having a short offseason? I think he deserves a least next season to prove himself with better protection and WR's that can catch.

I'm no Colt supporter at all, but I'd like to pick Blackmon if he fell.

Arkansas QB Tyler Wilson has decided to stay in school for next season. Barkley, Murray, Bray, and Wilson next years draft on paper looks to be a good right now in 2013 for QB prospects.

So does the excuse next year become that he only had two receivers both of whom only have a year or less of experience?

Agree with this completely. Excuses cant keep being made for Colt. Yeah we had a shortened off season, but its not like he didn't train and at least look into the west coast offense to see what he was getting into. He showed NO signs of getting it and I would put money on him even being somewhat shell shocked next year after all the hits he took. Getting blackmon would be nice as I think he is going to be great, but it would be the equivalent of getting a brand new computer with no keyboard...yeah its sweet that you got a new computer but if you have no keyboard to use it, whats the point?

This season is going to be a bunch of "what ifs" if Colt is our QB. I'm sorry, I just don't see it. It isn't that I think Colt has hit his ceiling, but I don't think his ceiling is high enough for where this team plans to go. I think we're going to either trade for a guy or pick one up via free agency. Whatever the Browns pick up via free agency will help us understand our direction, but I don't see more than one "marquee" player being signed/ traded for. It definitely will be a player who has just begun to or is just about to make his mark in the NFL.

Are we going to act like he didn't have a full training camp and had to learn a new offense on the fly? If he fails next season then let him fail with at least 1 receiver who can catch and a line that can actually block. If he turns into the franchise QB then we just saved ourselves the headache of using a high draft pick on another QB.

Andy Dalton learned a new offense, with zero NFL experience, post-lockout, limited to no training camp, and zero chemistry with his players right off the bat. He had a couple of weapons to help him out, but still the odds were stacked against him. He engineered a playoff team.

McCoy's excuses are mounting. He isn't a terrible QB. But like many of you have said, he is not the answer.

Check your pulse if you don't think we need a QB immediately. I want to win damn it.

Andy Dalton also had an experienced head coach. I'm not trying to make excuses for Colt because I'm not sure if he can be a franchise QB myself but he deserves a legit shot.

Why does it say that if we draft RGIII that Colt can't still start? If McCoy starts the season next year, then he still has an opportunity to show he can be a legit QB and we have a Brees/Rivers situation. If he doesn't, you have RGIII waiting in the wings to take over at QB.

Andy Dalton also had AJ Green (who will be a top 5 receiver if he isn't already) and Simpson, a 1000 yard rusher in Benson, a better defense backing him up, and a top 10 offensive line. Oh and an established head coach...and the 4th easiest SoS compared to the Browns 11th easiest.

Dalton's situation is not that comparable to Colt's. I'm not convinced that Colt is the long term answer, but this was a terrible comparison.

He actually doesn't deserve anything, based on his performance and what not.

Dude has shown absolutely no signs that another rookie receiver will help his case.
