Brendan Haywood's Trade Exception

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Seems to me Aldridge signing with PHX presents the Cavs with the best opportunity.

By my calculation, despite the salary dump with Detroit, PHX is still about $5M shy of the required max cap space. That may be off a bit, but not much, I think.

I think the best trade, by far, is PJ Tucker and TJ Warren.

Moving these two players clears $7.5M for PHX, which should be enough to sign LMA to a max. They have to sacrifice Tucker, but retain Markieff Morris and Alex Len, who have greater value for them and leaves them with a very solid 4 man rotation on the front line. I think PHX would still be a very attractive option for LMA.

Real GM Trade Checker says this trade works.

Tucker is nearly an ideal backup for LeBron. Can play the 3 or 2.

Doubt the Cavs would be interested in an unproven player like Warren, but he is a young player who could presumably be dispatched elsewhere for a second round pick or two. Maybe Philly likes him?

Could also include him in a sign and trade with Charlotte for Mo Williams.

I would definitely be in favor of any deal bringing Tucker, regardless of what other players we had to take because it seems like him alone would be worth the deal and then we could sort out the other players later.

I'm wondering if Phoenix wants to be over and done with the Morris twins. Seems like Markieff is a difficult guy to have around. His contract isn't outrageous but I wonder if they will feel he's worth having around due to that assault issue and the other things he says to the media.

The problem with Markieff from the Cavs perspective, in addition to the character/chemistry issues, is that they don't exactly need another PF and he might be difficult to flip to another team for something that fits the Cavs' needs better. Plus his salary is an issue ($8M). The trade I have outlined brings back only $5.5M in additional salary (unless Tucker has a trade kicker). Gilbert has shown he is more than willing to pay the tax, but every penny they spend at this point needs to be rigorously justified, given how much they are paying Thompson and Shump. I don't think they have the luxury to take on dead salary. The beauty about getting Warren in the deal is that a team with cap space should be glad to get a free or cheap look at him. By some measures, he wasn't bad last year as a rookie.

We can't accept S&T guys, but we could S&T one of our guys. With the money Dan is throwing around, we are waaaayyy over the apron. We might be over without LeBron lol.

I'm surprised they didn't make a decisive action before it became set in stone. Wow.

The Clippers had to decide by June 30th, which is when his contract became guaranteed. $1.5M of the salary would have been guaranteed regardless, so they would have only saved $4M. I would have been tempted to release him anyway. Trading him to a team looking for salary relief also might have been an option.

I just don't think David Griffin will want him. His usage last year was 27%. By comparison, J.R.'s usage with the Cavs was 17.6% (granted, mostly with the starters). I know there are shots available off the bench for someone playing 15-20 minutes, but I don't think Crawford is a good solution to the issues with the Cavs' wing rotation or a good replacement for Smith.

Yeah they don't need him so it's not ideal, but if they can walk away from it with Tucker and then maybe unload Morris to another team between now and January for some sort of asset, it might be worth it. Maybe Morris could play some minutes at SF as well.

Maybe Morris could be sent off to Detroit to keep him with his brother. Someone mentioned earlier that they took less money to play together in Phoenix, so maybe they can team up again in Motown. The question is, does Detroit have anything the Cavs could use that they would be willing to give up for Markieff (or Marcus, I can't remember which is which)?

Don't worry guys, I will have limited to no access to internet in about an hour, so you should all expect something to happen today. That's the way of the universe. Tucker would be a great pickup, but there are many good options out there. Hopefully we get better than expexted.

See you guys at 5.

Count me as skeptical this brings back much, which makes the decision to carry him even more painful. Sure could have used one more useful player in Finals tho' Blatt might not have played him anyway.

Clippers are looking at Koufos and doing a sign&trade.

Cavs can see if they get in that but not convinced a middle-man needed.

Detroit's quite the hodgepodge these days so maybe we could get involved in a three-way if Alrdridge choose Phoenix. Tucker would be a nice score and solve the backup SF issue, but I believe the value of the Hayward contract is looking pretty questionable.

Anyone who thinks the Clippers are just going to drop JJ Redick on us for basically nothing is dreaming.

I would think that with each passing day, and with most of the big dollar free agents off the board, the value of the Haywood contract diminishes.

I truly believe Haywood contract was more of a insurance in case Love Didnt resigned with us... So I assume it really only makes sense to use that contract if it only benefit us now..Were already in luxury tax hell so we really have to be careful.

Given the final big name to fall. Would think we get a resolution in the next 1-3 days. I think there will be a ton of movement by the end Monday.
