Brendan Haywood's Trade Exception

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Problem is, neither the Mavs or Clips have anything to give us that we'd want.

The Mavs obviously see themselves at contenders and have a thin roster, so nothing of worth to get from them.

The Clips, by trying to do this deal, would be signaling that they are still trying to do everything possible to contend this season, so they wouldnt give us the one thing of value we might want from them in Redick.

I still think, if we use Haywood to get a player or two, our most likely trade partners are Denver, Phoenix, Boston, Milwaukee, or Minnesota.

If there was some way to take Jamal Crawford and some sort of filler to make contracts work for 1 year I'd be ok with that. Not my first choice, but if it's the only good option left, I'd deal. Crawford only has this year left on his deal and would be a decent replacement for Smith if he doesn't come back.

Now, if I were the Clips I'd just cut my losses. No way would I trade Reddick just to pull of a sign and trade so I could get Roy Hibbert. Reddick is a good player on a good contract. Try and dump Crawford and see where that gets you. Use whatever space you have and offer McGee a one year deal with the promise you'll revive his career. Then role into next season with a boatload of cap space and be one of the two real threats for Kevin Durant. Forget contending this season (they'll still make the playoffs, btw) and go for the dynasty next season.

I've mentioned this before elsewhere: Crawford is also a non-guarenteed contract this off season to the amount of 5.7 million. They might not want to let Crawford to for cap space, but it is an option now that the Clippers have their backs to the wall.

I don't see why they'd replace Crawford with JR. That would be a terrible thing.

JR might get on people's nerves, but he's a better player, and better defender, and younger.

Crawford is downright horrific right now. I think we'd take a step back, and a team like us should be looking to stay the course, or take a step forward.

I have zero interest in Crawford, unless they collect his contract as just an asset. Even then, I feel there's got to be better options out there for Haywood's contract than that.

I didn't know that. It doesn't say so on Basketball Insiders or Hoopshype. If that's the case, you just release him and sign Koufos. But I don't think his contract is non-guaranteed.

Does anyone who the Clippers actually have on the books next season? Cause hoopshype is wrong. Farmar isn't on the team anymore so I'm not sure about any of the other no name dudes.

Thought Crawford contract now guaranteed. Don't remember if he opted in or team renewed. But pretty confident his contract is now guaranteed.

Yeah, looks like the Clippers guaranteed Crawford's contract for 2015-2016 by not waiving him before July 1.

Crawford is a negative when he is on the court, he's trash. Even with the all the headaches JR brings I'd rather have him then Crawford, wouldn't be surprised if he'd make us worse.

It's not necessarily an either-or situation though. We have the ability to get JR back and also add insurance in the form of a Stuckey or Crawford or whoever. Maybe it would make sense for Blatt to kind of feature JR less but still significantly, but feed minutes to an extra rotation player or two so that when we reach the playoffs, we have more guys who are locked in. If JR struggles, Blatt could keep him on a short leash, going to Crawford, etc.

I have no doubt we will get a serviceable backup PG. The market appears flooded, at least for the sort of guys we would need (guys who would only really need to play 10 or 15 mins a game if Kyrie is healthy). Plus we have Delly as backup (I'm assuming we get him, as Gilbert loves him)

I'm more worried about SG/SF.

I'm surprised they didn't make a decisive action before it became set in stone. Wow.
