Brendan Haywood's Trade Exception

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Haywood deal is significantly more valuable than Wally's. Haywood doesn't have a cent guaranteed in his $10mil contract; that's something that hasn't been seen in awhile (if not ever) due to the unique amnesty situation.

Teams are salivating over this deal while Wally's contract was just another expiring.

I agree that Haywood's contract is valuable, but I don't know of any team salivating. The question is how valuable and what value another team is willing to give up for it? I hope I'm wrong, but why would a team who needs room to sign a star give up a star to do so, as some are speculating? Moreover, I think only OKC and Golden State are over the cap at this time other than the Cavs and I don't see these teams trading anything of value to the Cavs just to get below. The Cavs were desperate--more desperate than any team out there now--to clear cap to sign LeBron last year and gave up Zeller and a number one pick and that was deemed a lopsided trade in Boston's favor. Thus, I see maybe a role player off the bench, not an all star, and maybe a future pick. Many stars are signing with their team and Sacramento is clearing space without the Cavs help.

Of course, I'm waiting for Griffin to shock the world again...

I just tried looking at this from the other side - Haywood's perspective.

You're being dangled like a piece of meat, you are about to lose $10+ million in weeks, maybe days.

You aren't good enough to make another team.

Poor fella.

Guy has made 45 million over the last 5 years, and he's barely played in 3 or 4 of them. He's not complaining. Got a ring and almost a second in the process, all while watching from a free courtside seat.

The value of the contract probably goes down with each player that returns to fill minutes. But it has been a great insurance package in case someone bolts.

Man looking at salaries, Tony Parker has been underpaid his entire career. He's never been a max player. In a world where Goran Dragic is considered a max player, no question, it's just kind of amazing how things broke for San Antonio that Parker never got his money. How San Antonio pulls this off I have no idea.

Why would the clippers trade Reddick?

Yea someone is gonna have to lay it out for me why the Clippers would trade Reddick. Again, is there some reason to believe Ballmer feels like getting cheap, because the only purpose would be to save money. Moving him doesn't help them sign anyone else or keep DeAndre Jordan.

Maybe if they get Jordan back they might need to cut salary after Maxing him out? I do not see it unless they need instant money to go after someone next FA

Yeh I really don’t really see why the Clips would trade him. Offensively I think he’s the perfect shooting guard for our team along with Korver.

I still want Patty Mills but this kid would be my second option I do not think it will happen though.

If the Cavs fail to reach an agreement with JR to have him return next season, I could very well see them striking a deal with Milwaukee to net OJ Mayo and Jerryd Bayless. The Bucks just traded for a veteran point guard in Greivis Vasquez and drafted Rashad Vaughn who will at the very least serve as Mayo's replacement next season if not sooner as they're expected to let him walk in free agency next summer. Plus, the Bucks are currently pursuing Greg Monroe on a max contract level which will likely cause them to trim some cap space. At this point, I would be surprised if the Cavs traded Haywood before resolving JR's situation.

Mayo I think can be had and well... stranger things have happened I am not sure about his defense though.

After the money they just gave Green, GSW is another potential three team trade partner for us.

Actually could set up an interesting scenario with Toronto. Lee may no longer be an all star, but he is a good player regardless. Could easily be a 15/8 guy in the right place.

It isn't just limited to Toronto though. GSW will be looking to get rid of Lee, and unless a team is willing to absorb him for cap space, which I don't see as likely given the pretty good FA's left that can play the 4, the Haywood contract is just about the perfect size to absorb him.
