Brendan Haywood's Trade Exception

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
After the money they just gave Green, GSW is another potential three team trade partner for us.

Actually could set up an interesting scenario with Toronto. Lee may no longer be an all star, but he is a good player regardless. Could easily be a 15/8 guy in the right place.

It isn't just limited to Toronto though. GSW will be looking to get rid of Lee, and unless a team is willing to absorb him for cap space, which I don't see as likely given the pretty good FA's left that can play the 4, the Haywood contract is just about the perfect size to absorb him.

Haywood contract by itself is not enough to get Lee. The third team would have to route some salary to GS. Who would that third team be? That team would also be the one with the player(s) the Cavs is/are targeting.

I think if GS decides to dump Lee's salary, they will be able to do so with the Lakers or Knicks who are looking for a big money guy on a one year contract as a sort of face saving move. Knicks and Lakers fans -- might add Dallas to the mix -- are thinking they will get GS to add an asset, but I sort of doubt it comes to that.

I'm not totally sure what Toronto is doing with its front court. I guess they were serious about playing Carroll at PF.

Man looking at salaries, Tony Parker has been underpaid his entire career. He's never been a max player. In a world where Goran Dragic is considered a max player, no question, it's just kind of amazing how things broke for San Antonio that Parker never got his money. How San Antonio pulls this off I have no idea.
Partly why they won so many rings. Sacrifice. All across the board.

Carroll at PF is not going to work at all. There is no way they go into the season and do that. The only reason I say Toronto, is because they have a couple of guys we might be interested in, and I know theur roster better than any of the other non Cavs NBA teams lol.

Edit: They missed on Mathews! :( Welp there goes Derozan. That was the break we needed. The PF's available to them are not so good at the moment.

I would be happy if we can make some deal with Indiana to get CJ Miles with Haywood's contract. IMO CJ is better spot up shooter than JR and we can get him on a lot cheaper contract. It also gave us TPE around 6 mil that we can use with some second round pick to get back up PG from the team who is willing to dump salary. J. Jack could probably fit in that TPE and his second year of contract is team option. He would be good fit as scoring PG with our second group and i also think that he could look better with our veterans than he was at first time here.

somebody brought this idea up on twitter: would you trade Haywood for Kevin Martin? i would prefer to get a SF (or even a PG) but if there isn't one available it wouldn't be terrible to get a non-crazy version of JR right? Kevin Martin is a really bad defender but having a player who can shoot and score as easily as him in the 2nd unit would be pretty nice. i wish the Wolves had some veteran SF/PG they could throw in, that would be perfect...

Yeah I was looking at that too last night, I was thinking maybe Kevin Martin and Chase Budinger.

Martin would be useful from the standpoint that he I think maybe is better than JR at hitting midrange shots and he also knows how to get to the FT line. JR is horrible at drawing fouls. But ya Martin is not young and his defense is suspect. I think he's a friend of Kevin Love's though, which might help bring K Love out of his shell. It's not ideal but I could see the Cavs maybe doing it if nothing else materializes.

I was also looking at New Orleans, it seems like they have a lot of guys on their roster right now that they will have trouble paying in the future, since they put down big investments in Anthony Davis and Asik.

I like the idea of Kevin Martin. He's a shooter, has the size to fill in at the SF spot when Lebron takes a break, and he's from Ohio to boot.

Sure, it would be great to get someone younger, but I don't know if that's really an option at this point.

Hey guys, my first post here. Greetings from Germany!

Back to the topic: If I'm the Clippers, I'll try to trade Jamal Crawford or Reddick for Haywood's contract. That way Cavs can replace Smith and Clips get cap space now that DJ is going to Dallas.

Welcome! That's a good thought but I think the Cavs would prefer Smith over Crawford due to their relative ages and the fact that Smith has been with the team for half a season already. And Redick is too valuable to them to dump for cap space. That would be a great situation if it happened though.

If the Cavs fail to reach an agreement with JR to have him return next season, I could very well see them striking a deal with Milwaukee to net OJ Mayo and Jerryd Bayless. The Bucks just traded for a veteran point guard in Greivis Vasquez and drafted Rashad Vaughn who will at the very least serve as Mayo's replacement next season if not sooner as they're expected to let him walk in free agency next summer. Plus, the Bucks are currently pursuing Greg Monroe on a max contract level which will likely cause them to trim some cap space. At this point, I would be surprised if the Cavs traded Haywood before resolving JR's situation.

Bucks will gladly give you bayless and mayo, two net negative players that should not be on a contender.
damn that's a weak trade.

somebody broke down (in detail) a few days ago why Crawford is just not a good player anymore (i forgot in which thread that happened).
anyway here's my take on him: he's gonna turn 35, the Clippers were better on O and D when he was off the floor and he had a really inefficient season (it got worse in the playoffs). i would stay away from him, with JR at least there's 40-50 games of evidence (regular season) that he can be really good with us and he's much younger than Crawford too.

Honestly, doesn't seem like we'll get much back from the Haywood deal with the cap exploding next year. Just bad timing.

I think they will be able to add 1 or 2 valuable pieces...that is what it was meant for
