Cleveland Browns New Head Coach Search, 2014

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Haslam and Banner having a press conference. Pretty uneventful.

-Doesn't have a clear type of coach they are looking for, just looking for one that wants to win and knows what it is to be a winner.
-Gonna take their time to find the correct coach
-Concerning that the team didn't improve over the course of the year
-Haslam knows Browns deserve the criticism and is confident they can find the correct guy even though they thought their last hire was a mistake.
-Didn't believe that the 2013 draft compared to the 2014, team isn't where it needs to be talent wise, can get there in the next 3 years or so.
-The fact that Chud hire didn't go well doesn't change that they have a history of continuity with other franchises, still is their goal.
-Has no problem with people demanding success, lots of teams that were picking low last season are playoff teams now.

NFL Network turned it off, like I said nothing big, pretty zzz.

Colt McCoy for head coach? draft AJ McCarron to be a player/coach? thoughts?

Move all Manziel talk to the QB prospect thread please...

O'Brien, McDaniels, Schwartz, Gase....boy it just keeps getting better...

smh

Roger.

You don't like Gase? I personally know zilch about Case. I am still very skeptical that OB, no matter how much I like him, can come in and succeed in the NFL.

I don't know much about him either, but Peyton would make any QB coach/OC look like a genius.

Even though we are all disappointed with the situation, I'm happy with the responses in the press conference. They are answering the questions and show they have a plan for this offseason. They know it's an important one along with a deep draft.

They just need to make the right moves now.

I don't know much about him either, but Peyton would make any QB coach/OC look like a genius.

He can also help develop a young coach-in-waiting by exposing him to the almost uncanny ability to know and understand how defenses work. To say nothing of the time and effort necessary to succeed at the NFL level off the field.

Gase is obviously a fast-riser, and one has to believe that is for good reason.

Peter King with a nugget:

We're screwed. Manziel.

They're truly idiotic if that's their big plan upgrading the QB position. Then they'll cut him next year and say "but he really wasn't the guy we really wanted". Sounds great.

Pretty much..

Gase is just too inexperienced and too young, simply put... He's been a NFL position coach for 3 years and has been a coordinator for 1...

No thank you..

Interesting question:

- Banner said they're still deciding if anyone on the current coaching staff will be a candidate (but they'll probably have to interview Horton)

- Banner also said they probably won't have anyone be a candidate this year that was last year (so no Whisenhunt, O'Brien, Saban, McDaniels?)

But I'm sure there's ways to weasel around that....

That would mean Schwartz and Gase are at the forefront...

Holy god this situation isn't that complicated.

They wanted Kelly. Didn't get him. Hired Chud on the condition that he needs to show improvement and wins in the short term. Chud failed to do that with 5 pro bowlers on the team, and pissed games away in the fourth quarter. He is fired, and they are trying to get a big name.

There is ZERO reason to keep a guy for just stability's sake. You think the Chiefs regret not keeping Crennel for three years to give him his chance? You think the Seahawks regret getting rid of Mora to bring in a big name in Carroll? Come on, man. They weren't asking for Chud to make the playoffs. 6-10 or 7-9 with a strong finish to the season and Chud is still here. They went 1-9 in the last ten games. No reason to keep him when he can be easily replaced.

And people said Chip Kelly (a college coach for just four years) couldn't run an offense with 280 pound lineman like he did at Oregon.

If you have the dynamic and innovative ideas it takes to beat other teams in this offensive NFL climate, experience is secondary.

Technically McDaniels wasn't a candidate because he rejected all interviews. He might be the best piece of corn in the turd sandwich at this point.

I know I'm being redundant but holy shit. If this job comes down to Schwartz and McDaniels.

God rest our souls.
