Cleveland Browns New Head Coach Search, 2014

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What is wrong with Gase's rep? He's developed a pretty damn good reputation in a short amount of time.

We know that he's been rapidly promoted at every stop along his short career, and in his one year as a coordinator teamed with Manning to produce the best year of his career.

Again, if you've established a reputation at a young age and have the understanding of how to command players, age is a non-issue.

If Gase is that guy, I just don't care at all about his age.

He's older than Jon Gruden, Bill Cowher, Mike Shanahan, Mike Tomlin, John Madden and Don Shula were when they got their first NFL coaching gig.

If you've got the coaching gene, you've got it. Age ain't nothing but a number at that point.

Needledick McGee could have coached that Broncos offense to high ranks. It is loaded to the gills from the O-Line, to the receivers, to the tight ends, and on.

I'm not saying Gase hasn't had a hand in their success, but Peyton Manning is why Peyton Manning is having his best year.

More interesting comments...

More from the Lombardi mouthpiece:

The Redskins would have some interest in O'Brien, I'm told, as would Cleveland, but other teams believe he will end up with the Texans this week.

So, where do they go from here?

Josh McDaniels would be a top name in Cleveland, though some in the organization are unsure they can get the offensive coordinator out of New England. Otherwise, they plan to talk to the hotter coaching names -- Darrell Bevell and Dan Quinn in Seattle, Jay Gruden in Cincy, Sean McDermott of Carolina (who worked previously for team president Joe Banner in Philadelphia). If Jim Schwartz is let go by the Lions, he could very well enter the picture in Cleveland.

So what it looks like: the Browns have their man and will move quickly...

If they want to do it within a week, that rules out guys like Whisenhunt, Gruden, Zimmer, Roman, Shurmur :)chuckles:), etc..

That means it'll either be a non active coach (Gruden, Cowher? I highly doubt it), a college coach (Stoops? Saban?) or a playoff coordinator (Bevell, Quinn, Gase, Del Rio, McDaniels, McDermott)...

I could get behind Del Rio...

nevermind already posted.

I'm so off the charts tired of hearing Cowher and Gruden linked to the Browns coaching search.

Sure, they've passed on the job roughly 8 times each now.

But THIS is the time where they're confident in the ship being righted! :chuckles:

Browns requested permission to interview Seahawks DC Dan Quinn for HC job, per source. Quinn can interview Jan. 5.

You have to wonder in this interview process how the regime will answer to these coordinators when they ask what will make them different from Chud if the 1st year doesn't go well? Why would any coordinator want this job when the words of this regime mean nothing really as their actions have shown.

Good to see your going to keep on trucking with this stuff.

Fight the power, man!

Because it pays better than a coordinator job and if they do get fired they can still easily get a coordinator job back right away?

Get paid $4 million dollars to coach and suck for one year and then $10 million dollars to not coach for 3? Where do I sign up?

Quinn returns to Seattle where he was assistant head coach/defensive line coach in 2009 under Jim Mora and was one of three holdovers in 2010 on Carroll's staff when he coached the defensive line. He was instrumental in the position switch of Red Bryant from defensive tackle to defensive end in 2010.

Dan Quinn left Seattle to become the defensive coordinator at the University of Florida where his defenses ranked in the top-10 in the country in 2011 and 2012.

He began his NFL coaching career in San Francisco as its defensive quality control coach in 2001 before moving to coach the 49ers defensive line from 2003-04. He also coached the defensive lines for the Miami Dolphins (2005-06) and the N.Y. Jets (2007-08).

Probably just a Rooney Rule interview...the shaved head isn't fooling anyone, ginger.

Quinn seems to be a respected name but again, I'm just not sure I like a guy with his limited experience...

So far my personal list:

Retreads:
1. Ken Whisenhunt
2. Jack Del Rio

Coordinators:
1. Mike Zimmer
2. Jay Gruden
3. Mike Pettine

College Coaches:
1. Bob Stoops
2. Kevin Sumlin

Or just keep Horton, too...

I can get on the Bob Stoops bandwagon. It's totally not because he's from Youngstown or anything...

Just to put the Urban crazy talk to sleep

Ben Axelrod ‏@BenAxelrod 2m

Urban Meyer said that when he was younger he had NFL coaching aspirations. No longer the case. Isn’t interested in Browns job.
