Cleveland Browns New Head Coach Search, 2014

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Put that rumor to bed before it even started.

Because it pays better than a coordinator job and if they do get fired they can still easily get a coordinator job back right away?

Sure, the average coordinator likely would jump at the chance to make big money even if there is little job security. But the stud coordinators, the ones who will be most in demand for the available head coaching positions and will be interviewed by multiple teams, likely will weigh job security pretty heavily. All else being equal, they'd much rather go to a team that will give them a fair opportunity to succeed.

In that respect, they're no different from retread or college coaches. Those who want head coaching jobs are going to prefer the best opportunities over shittier ones.

Shoot me now:

Color me underwhelmed by all the candidates. The real question is, how can Nick Saban use this to make even more money from Alabama?

To use it as leverage to get more money there has to be a credible threat you'd actually leave.

Even Alabama knows that under no circumstance would Saban ever consider leaving Tuscaloosa to come work for Joe Banner and Lombardi.

Dan Quinn is the first name that's done anything for me. He's got an excellent reputation/track record. Wouldn't be surprised if he hangs around in Seattle for another year and waits for a more promising HC gig.

Especially after knowing how much Andy Reid would advise against it.....Oh wait.

Didn't Quinn just inherit that defense from Gus Bradley like this year?

Yup...

Probably just a Rooney Rule interview...the shaved head isn't fooling anyone, ginger.

The Browns are already a joke, so why not hire Louis CK?

I do like how we seem to be taking our time this time around. There is no need to rush, draft is in May this year.

Whomever the head coach is, I would think they would have to on board with a 3-4. We just spent big money on 3-4 pieces in signing Kruger and Bryant and drafting Mingo.

You don't think Des Bryant could be a three technique with Taylor at the 1? We would really lack OLBs though.
