Quinn Cook?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Cook has more skill than Delly. I'm not sure if he is better than Delly right now (especially if Delly can hit threes consistently), but I think he could easily become better than Delly.

I saw he has picked up Delly's irritant skill and actually forced him into a turnover towards the end of the scrimmage.

Yeah, Delly has more size though; which is why he can bother two guards as well. I like a lot of what I have seen from Cook. I think he has what it takes to stay in the NBA.

I know he is short, but 6' isn't that bad. Is he not a good pg? I am just wondering. Someone should have picked him up in the 2nd round. Didn't realize he shot that well as I didn't see the whoel scrimmage. Great job.

It would be really nice to to flip him like @gratefuldead says when minutes dry up for him in Jan maybe. Upside as trade bait should really be considered here. I was thinking Austin Day as a sf, but I don't know if he is really any good.

I sort of like him as well - heady player, better stroke than advertised. Pesky defender. He has some tools. Someone to watch as we progress through preseason.

Only problem is we don't really need to carry 4 point guards...tho delly sort of counts as a SG.

PG - Mo Williams / Quinn Cook / Delly
SG - JR Smith / Delly / Joe Harris

Run that until Shumpert and Kyrie get back, and then cut whichever one of Harris and Quinn plays worse.

Quinn finished his career w/ the highest A/TO ratio in Duke history.

Mo can play the 2 as well, esp off the bench when Kyrie gets back. Cook shouldn't get more than a couple of minutes anyway. 15th guy.

Why wasn't he picked? Seems like a for sure 2nd rounder to me. Injury issues? Is it just his age?
It just happens sometimes. He was a senior and 22 years old and a little smaller than ideal for the position and his athleticism is very average (with his leaping being below average). I think those three things played a huge role in him not getting drafted.

He's not particularly tall.

He's not particularly fast or quick.

He's not an incredible athlete.

He's not an incredible shooter.

He's 22.

Quinn doesn't have any of the superlatives that translate to a draft pick.

He just happens to be a really good overall player who works hard, can shoot, can pass, and can defend without making mistakes.

Everything is correct here except for this. He shot .397 from three, .891 from the freethrow and a TS of .61 line last season and his form is excellent. He does a great job of leaning his shoulders back and getting his elbow and right shoulder aligned to the hoop.

I watched every one of his games at Duke. He's a very good shooter, but under 40% from the college 3 (he actually shot 37.5% from 3 for his college career) when you were never even close to the focal point of the offense does not equate to 'incredible shooter' in my book. That might be considered splitting hairs, but there were legitimate concerns that his range would extend to the NBA 3 line (also remember that Duke's offense does an absolutely incredible job getting 3-pt shooters good looks. Hell, Austin Rivers shot 37% from 3 in his 1 yr at Duke).

For comparison, Kyrie shot 46% from 3 in his 11 games at Duke.

THAT is an incredible shooter.

ETA -- can't believe I'm saying anything that is even remotely close to negative about Quinn. I love the kid. I hung out with his mom at the FF this year, and I wish nothing but the best for him. He deserves it. He lost his dad at a young age, and has worked his butt off to become a really, really good player and defender (this was a major problem when he first started), and took the move from PG to SG with amazing maturity this past season.

I would definitely say it's splitting hairs. He made a huge improvement in his shooting from his frosh year and never regressed. As far as i'm concerned you can throw that first year out seeing how well he shot his final three years and continues to shoot now. There are a few things I really look for when I look at shooting form and he checks all the boxes and has the good stats to match it. I'm pretty comfortable in my belief that he is an excellent shooter.

I watched the end again. Cook looks like an NBA player to me. He plays pretty mature. I do like when they get system guys that played 4 years to round out the end of the bench. Come in and give a few good minutes.
