Quinn Cook?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Or not. I'll expand on why I don't think he makes the team.

We are 1 injury away from being extremely thin on the wing with Shump already out. We already only have 3 options at the wing (LBJ, JR, RJ) that don't scare the shit out of us (Harris). So 3 legit options we feel good about at 2 positions...that's walking a fine line right there.

And now I know everyone will come back about my injury concerns on the wing and say "yeah, but Delly can play SG". Sure, Delly can play SG...but only during situational minutes...Delly won't last the entire year if he has to play heavy minutes at the 2 spot when teams run bigger lineups.

It's nothing personal about Quinn and I'm not saying the guy sucks. Looking at this in a vacuum, he would be the guy out of the 6 I would want to keep, and I'll get to why in a second. But it's pretty obvious, at least to me, that if (cause it still isn't a given we carry 15 into the regular season) we keep one of the non-guaranteed guys, its going to be one of Day, Cunningham, or Stephens, just because of how the roster looks right now.

That being said, I think you see Cook in Canton logging a lot of professional minutes, which will be good for him. Hopefully he doesn't get picked up by anyone, cause I think on the off chance that we lose Delly next off-season he could be the guy who takes over that roster spot, or at least one that fights for it again.

Don't confuse me saying he won't make the team with me thinking he isn't good enough. I don't think that's the case at all.
You make some strong points, but I don't agree with this one. I actually think he is better suited to guard two's overall more than the especially quick point guards. There aren't that many big physical shooting guards that are going to be out muscling him to wear him out. Jimmy Butler comes to mind, but that's about it out east. Delly was switching out onto PF's and holding his own. Surely he can handle these itty bitty men at two guard.

I'm not saying he can't. I'm saying I don't want to see him play heavy minutes there if we see an injury to one of our healthy wings. He'll get worn down. If the goal is the be at our peak in June, why would we risk wearing Delly out on bigger players? I like him at the 2 guard vs combo guards like Ellis, Mayo, Meeks that we will see in division, or against 2 PG sets for heavy minutes...but going up against the likes of someone the size of Butler for heavy minutes? I wouldn't want to see that.

As much as I want to see Cook make the team (he's one of my all-time favorite Duke players), I just don't see it from a roster perspective. The Cavs didn't even keep Tyus Jones, who was enough better at running Duke's team that he caused Cook to move to the 2 spot. I understand that there are other considerations now with Kyrie out, but it's not worth signing a guy so he can be the 3rd or 4th option for a few weeks until Kyrie's return.
You can't really compare Jones and Cook when it comes to the Cavs' reasoning for keeping them or not. They traded Jones because they didn't want the guaranteed contract that first round picks get, not because of aptitude.

Congrats to Quinn Cook on winning Rookie of the Year!

I've interviewed him twice and hopefully more. Very humble guy and very nice.

I think there's a pretty solid chance he makes the roster next year. Especially with Mo's injury problems.

With Mo and Shump having knee problems I wonder if we'll pick up a guard. Maybe Cook? They seem to like him.

That's great news. I'm going to try to go to their playoff game tomorrow night.

19.6 PPG, 3.9 RPG, 5.4 APG, 1.2 SPG, 46.6 FG%, 38.2 3PT%, 86.3 FT% over 33.8 MPG for the Charge last season.

With Delly gone, I really want the Cavaliers to give him a look.

Obviously I'm totally on board with that -- this year could be his great chance to have a career in the NBA, for whatever team (as there are gonna be a few super teams who need reliable players for cheap before next year's FA free-for-all). Felder is a better athlete and a more physical player. Quinn being taller doesn't mean much.

I'm really really hoping he gets a spot, be it for the Cavs or whomever.

Remember how Joe Harris used to dominate the D-League?

Quinn isn’t under contract with the Cavs. He has an invite to the Mavericks summer league team.

Felder has more upside, in my opinion. But Quinn is a much better defender at this point.
