Shanahan/Loggains Gone

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The NFL is investigating whether text messages were sent to the Cleveland Browns' sideline during games, league spokesman Michael Signora told ESPN.com Friday.

Texting would be a violation of the NFL's rules prohibiting electronic communication during games.

Signora did not elaborate except to say the league is looking into the matter.

Though it's not clear who sent the messages and who received them, a team source said the messages were subject of discussion among some players and coaches late in the season.

Cleveland.com originally reported the text messages were sent and said it was one issue in former offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan leaving the team. He perceived it as interference from the front office regarding coaching decisions.

Though no texts have become public, the messages regarded personnel decisions and play calls, the source said.

The league's electronic devices rule states:

"Unless specifically permitted by league rules, the use of cellular phones, smartphones, tablet devices, computers, wearable electronic devices such as Google Glass, and other electronic equipment by coaches, players and other club personnel is prohibited in club-controlled areas including, but not limited to, sidelines and coaches' booths.

"These restrictions apply from ninety (90) minutes prior to kickoff through the end of the game, including halftime. Coaches, players, and other team personnel are permitted to use such electronic devices in the locker room prior to kickoff and are permitted to use league-issued Microsoft Surface tablets throughout game day for viewing coaches' still photos."

Unreal.

Did Jimmy fuck Shanny's wife? Like seriously?

We let him out of his deal. Does he really have to do us like this on his way out?

We cheated and still sucked. This team is a goddamn soap opera.

Maybe this will result in Haslam paying a fine and catching some heat in the media. Enough to get him to let the career football people do their jobs without his interference (all of this assumes he's the problem of course).

Guarantee someone below him will take the fall AKA pilot flying j

So if it does get blown open and we're busted, does that mean Jimmy cuts a check or could it cost us draft picks? Cuz that's just what the doc ordered...

Well we know Dowell Loggains has Jimmys number so...

...and Jimmy can always say it was the fault of the two guys he just fired. Will not result in anything but a slap on the wrist.

Interesting tidbit re: Shanahan a few minutes in: LINK

Glazer touches on the Shanahan topic briefly but what he does say is interesting...

Glazer said that coaches interviewing for HC jobs, already had Shanahan on their list for OC candidates to bring with them in their interviews... This was apparently was news to Mike Pettine, who found out about his OC already lining up other jobs while he was on vacation...

There's undoubtedly blood on both hands, but let's not forget who is making the exit here... This is the same Shanahan who didn't leave any fans behind in Washington (LINK)

To me, this is a move in an attempt to get the team on the same page and moving in the right direction, philosophically..

Pettine is a no non-sense, no team for me first people which it seems that Shanahan was... It's either get on or get off the bus, and after what transpired and the way they did, I think Pettine wasn't holding back tears to show Shanahan the door...

That's great that we can speculate and what not about Kyle Shanahan and his relationships with former employers but for all intents and purposes, the Browns were happy to be retaining Shanahan going forward. There's no narrative, that i've heard at least, where the Browns were unhappy with Shananhan. All I hear is the old "nobody liked him in Washington so that's probably what happened here."

Shanahan's exit was highly planned and perfectly executed by the former OC. Shanahan certainly got the jump on the Browns FO by going to the media and embarrassed them. Text messages down to the sideline? I don't think any owner would stoop that low.... Anyways, Shanahan used that angle to force his way out of his deal.

The biggest problem isn't so much Shanahan here-- or what kind of person/coach that he is. I have no clue what he was like and don't really care. It's that every year were getting rid of these "problems" in the FO or coaching staff. Every year it's so and so from the FO can't get along with so and so. Or so and so from the coaching staff can't get along with so and so. After a while you realize that it's not the people leaving the organization that are the problem but the organization itself is the problem and that's what I fear the case is here.

A few points that I'd like to stress.

1) We don't know if the text messages story is true.

2) We don't know if the text was sent, it was sent by Jimmy

3) We don't know if there is truly dysfunction, or if this is just another bad break up by Kyle Shanahan.

There's dysfunction.

True dysfunction and 'a bad break up' with Shanny are one in the same, honestly.

You don't fire what appears to be a good coordinator in one year after firing a HC after one year unless there's dysfunction.
