Shanahan/Loggains Gone

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm confused, why is there even a rule against electronic communications? Don't the coaches use headsets to communicate with the booth? What is the difference between talking on a headset and sending a text?

Shanahan appears to see himself as NFL royalty who can't be bothered to support a first-year head coach such as Mike Pettine.

Leaking the B.S. text message story to the media and jumping ship is low. He is clearly a snake and had to go; ultimately, Pettine needs to bring in someone who will be on his team so that leadership can move forward together.

I would think that someone like Joe Thomas, who must hate still more turnover in the offense, will understand you can't be successful with a snake like Shanahan in your midst.

I don't think Shanny was "fired" but he was released to find a better match for his vision of an offense. Its the first time I can remember that a Browns assistant was wanted for a promotion by another organization. At least, that is how I'm rationalizing it.

And I completely believe this is a way to protect Haslam in the press. Owners get protected, not GMs.

Cleveland fans love their speculation and drama and the media knows it. Just read this thread. Shannahan earned his paycheck 1/3rd of the season. Good riddance.

That's like saying dogs like dog food. If it's all they're given, it's all they know.

Most Cleveland fans would probably like to just watch the stupid games and not hear all the speculation and drama.

You don't draft Johnny Manziel in the first round based on the musings of a hobo unless there's dysfunction. :chuckle:

I just had a relevation- what if the hobo that Jimmy Haslam was referring to actually WAS Dowell Loggains? Jimmy didn't know he was one of the new coaches, thought he was just some homeless guy? 'And then the discheveled man I had spoken to earlier somehow got ahold of my cellular phone number and texted me that Johnny wanted to wreck this league'- theoretical quote edited out by local media. This would actually make me feel better about Jimmy I think.

A few points that I'd like to stress.

1) We don't know if the text messages story is true.

2) We don't know if the text was sent, it was sent by Jimmy

3) We don't know if there is truly dysfunction, or if this is just another bad break up by Kyle Shanahan.

Just like Norv Turner's bad breakup here? Purely coincidence, right?

Gotta love it when the owner tells the football lifer how to do his job. Kudos to Norv for telling Jimmy to fuck off right to his face. Though Shanahan's media efforts were legendary-- made Jimmy look like he got caught with his pants around his ankles.

Where is the Browns denial on this text message scandal? That's the first thing you learn in media training, no?

The reports on the text message thing was not that the front office was texting plays or calls to the sidelines but more mocking and questioning the coaching decisions.

Not tampering but certainly inexcusable behavior from senior management.

Hey Tony: Your best guess? Who was the "high-ranking" member of the Browns’ front office to text down to the sidelines during games with opinions on play calling to OC Kyle Shanahan? Do you think that was the straw that broke the camel’s back?

-- Joe, Palm Desert, CA

Hey Joe: What I know is that there were non-football personnel texting disparaging remarks about coaching decisions, play-calls and use of players to each other during games. It was like two fans holding texting conversations during games. The problem was the “fans” were team employees who exercised bad judgment. When coaches became aware of what was going on, they were understandably put off and brought it to the attention of GM Ray Farmer. From what I know, it was not a case of texting play suggestions to coaches. But what was going on was inappropriate and symptomatic of the counter-productive culture within the organization that keeps it from winning. I don’t believe it was the main reason Shanahan asked out of his contract, but rather a justification for his desire to seek greener pastures.

Why?! Whyyyyyyyy!?!?!?

What's worse than a grease-fire? Because a grease-fire goes out over time.

This shit show just never stops...

If what Grossi said was true, then it seems to me that some people on the offensive coaching staff needed to have some thicker skin. If that was seriously the reason he left, then good riddance.

I hope it is too, because the thought that the personnel staff would still be behind Johnny makes me want to puke.

As to Bernie, I'm sick of him. He is always on his knees, sucking the Browns dick for a few years, then when they tell him to *rightly* fuck off, he gets all pissy and starts bashing people. Money has been, and always will be, the ultimate trump card. There are still some solid OC's out there, Trestman chief among them.

I bet Bernie changes his tune if Trestman is hired.

Really?

You'd be okay with your boss to micromanage your every move? Constantly doubt your abilities to help the organization and mock your decisions? You really don't see how utterly dysfunctional that would be?

My good buddy from Chicago thinks Trestman would be a great hire here in Cleveland. He can't manage people and doesn't like to win..... he'd fit like a glove.
