Re: The Cleveland Cavaliers Magic Number Thread for Most Ping Pong Balls in May 2011.

Unfortunately, the Cavs play the Knicks one more time this year.

This is going down to the wire....

Re: The Cleveland Cavaliers Magic Number Thread for Most Ping Pong Balls in May 2011.

God damn it, we need to stop playing the Knicks.

Re: The Cleveland Cavaliers Magic Number Thread for Most Ping Pong Balls in May 2011.

Bump, we need an update.....

Update: The Cavs are getting the most ping pong balls. The End.

Re: The Cleveland Cavaliers Magic Number Thread for Most Ping Pong Balls in May 2011.

I second the update request. If there is ever a time for this thread it is now with nine games left and a three game lead over two teams. Counting down a magic number would mean a lot more now than it did in the middle of December.

Rabman if you can, it would be appreciated.

Baron Davis needs to catch the flu.

I still think it's close to a sure thing the Cavs end up with the worst record but they do have some winnable games left. They play Charlotte twice, Washington twice, Toronto once, Detroit again and one more game against the Knicks.

Right now I'm more concerned that teams like Charlotte and Milwaukee keep better records than the Clippers. That's getting a little too close.

The Bucks and Bobcats both won last night and the Clippers lost. With only 9 games left, the Clippers are 3 games back from both of those teams in the loss column. The Clippers also have a very difficult finishing schedule as 8 of their last 9 games are against teams over .500 with five of those games being on the road.

I think the 8th overall spot is the floor for the Cavaliers at this point. If Detroit somehow were to wake up, the Clippers might leap up to 7th, but I'm doubting that.

Re: The Cleveland Cavaliers Magic Number Thread for Most Ping Pong Balls in May 2011.

the thing to keep an eye on is Minnesota. We only have 1 more loss than them and they only have 9 games left in a tough schedule

vs Boston
vs Chicago
vs Miami
@ Memphis
@ New Jersey
vs Phoenix
@ Denver
@ Phoenix
vs Houston

They may not win again. We have 11 games left and a substantially easier schedule
vs Atlanta
vs Miami
@ Charlotte
@ Washington
@ Knicks (going for the series sweep)
vs Charlotte
@ Toronto
vs Chicago
@ Milwaukee
@ Detroit
vs Washington

And Minnesota without Kevin Love is capable of losing the rest of the way.

I'm not too concerned. We will likely lose our next 3 games meaning we would have to finish the season 4-4 in our last 8 and they would have to lose out just to pass them.

Plus in are last 8 only 3 our home games, and 2 are against Chicago & Charlotte.

Fortunately (?), the Cavs own the tie-breaker for having been swept by the T-Wolves. So, the T-Wolves really have a 2-game lead in the loss column. I still think it will go down to the wire, with so many of the Cavs opponents having nothing to play for toward the end of the season.

I appreciate that you want me to update, but I really hate this thread in general. It's so distasteful after having a similar Magic Number thread last year. I'll update it when I can, but please don't expect too much from me. It's like the thread is mocking me...

the tiebreaker isn't used for the lottery - the chances just get split if you tie

there is no tie breaker.

if both teams have the same record they split the ping pong balls. so if the cavs and twolves finish with the same worst record in the league they each get 22.5% of the ping pong balls (a split of 25% and 20%)
