ssopata, post: 2053268, member: 4835"]So a lifelong coach who made it to the most prestigious league in his profession, gains his first victory in that league and it's a meaningless platitude?

The victory is meaningful, the gameball gifting thing is meaningless, a tradition but meaningless. Honestly, the first day someone successfully performs their job shouldn't mean too much and putting emphasis on it is silly.

So the players cant be put off by his brushing it off when they were excited FOR HIM and having a moment of bonding that he ruined?

I don't buy into that perspective, it presumes actual harm was done that could legitimize a negative response. It grants that there is genuine value in the first win (as in worth more that a single W- something necessary for the teams success) beyond the opportunity to gratuitously bowing to the NBA's greatness. Blatt put his foot down in the middle of them hazing the rookie and the team got all bitchy and passive aggressive over it. Why can't they respect what he has already accomplished, what earned him a shot in the L-and not get all butthurt if winning a single NBA game isn't his personal Everest?
I'm astonished and angry that our teams priorities and mentality are this horribly fragile. Seriously- these are theoretically grown men letting a perceived sleight to the greatness of the NBA brand -in the first week of the season- effect their ability to succeed in the playing the game that has made them millionaires.

Great, Blatt wants to act like he's been there before and all but he's got to realize that his previous accomplishments, in the eyes of NBA players, aren't on the same level as what successful NBA coaches have accomplished

No- Blatt wants to act like he is their coach. A professional win manufacturer doing his thing, trying to make wins. How isn't that a great mentality, it's weird to me that noone sees it this way.

It's similar to my 4 year old making me a gift at school, giving it to me and I look at him and say, "this is nice but your two older brothers already made me the same thing when they were 4. Thanks anyways.

it's nothing like this!! You want a shit analogy-here you go:
Now lets say you were paid to guide a team of gift making Elves - and you had spent a decade running a similar team of less talented but very productive dwarves. Now on your first week on this new job your new more talented elves produce a nice but usual gift. They offer you a trophy to acknowledge this great accomplishment, and you say, thanks but it's what you brought me here to do and its what I do best. And the elves get bitchy that you didn't go out of your way to acknowledge how much better this elf gift is than the old dwarf gifts. So pissed the refuse to make anymore gifts.

In this case?

Zetus Lapetus.
Zetus Lapetus
An expression of exclamation from the popular Disney movie 'Zenon, Girl of the 21st Century' (1999). The expression is also frequently used in 'Zenon: The Zequel' (2001) and 'Zenon: Z3' (2004), both installments of the 'Zenon' television film series. However, there is no known translation or actual meaning of Zetus Lapetus.
Margie: "Oh my gosh, aliens are said to be arriving tomorrow from the nearby black hole!"

Zenon: "Zetus Lapetus! That's stellar Margie!"

Does this Zenon Girl play basketball ? Cos we could use some Zetus Assist-us right now.

Hey Windy --- 01.23.15

01. Clippers game salvaged the road trip.

02. Team still gave up 120+ versus Clippers.

03. This week better. Defense has improved and adjustments been made on defense.

04. Defense still statistically bad. More work to do.

05. This is why we had the parade for LeBron. This is why people were so excited. This is an MVP level LeBron.

06. I still don't think LeBron is 100% physically. I still think he can take it up a few more levels from here.

07. With LeBron playing like this, you can do anything in this league.

08. When LeBron's jumper comes back, he will easily score 40+ in a game soon.

09. Blatt cutting down his rotation is incredibly important. Guys were frustrated when (for example) Joe Harris plays 30 minutes one night then not play at all the next night. Veteran players really did not like this because they did not know when they would get consistent minutes.

10. Team stabilizing with gameplans/rotation stabilizing.

11. Cavs caught the Bulls at the right time.

12. I think LeBron did not have the pedal to the metal before. I also think that LeBron was not previously inclined to play hard for Blatt.

13. Cavs had to decide what they would do with Blatt before they made the trades. They decided to back Blatt.

14. Moment in LA when LeBron acknowledged Blatt was huge. For weeks LeBron was undercutting Blatt on purpose. Now seems that has changed, relationship has thawed.

15. Huddles also seem better. Part of this is because team is playing better.

16. I think the root of all the changes for Cavs is LeBron feeling better physically.

17. Cavs should probably be looking at more chances to rest LeBron when possible. When LeBron is healthy we can see what he is capable of.

18. I think LeBron should take more time off for the rest of his career. Like 7-10 games per year where Cavs give him the night off.

19. LeBron and Blatt relationship is showing signs of being able to blossom.

20. Small things on a team can have huge effects, either positive or negative. So it is key for Cavs to stay on track now. So hesitant to say now that Cavs have turned the corner. This is a very fragile team.

21. Cavs not attacking the pick and roll as aggressively. One defensive change. Because Mozgov. This is a more traditional pick and roll defense rather than selling out to stop ballhandler.

22. I still want to see Cavs improve their defense.

23. It is more important that the Cavs continue to improve their defense than for everyone on the team to be happy. The defense will determine how far the team goes in the playoffs.

24. Mozgov has had two of his best games of the year (including with Denver) in the last week.

25. Mozgov can have huge rebounding totals. This is even more the case with Cavs.

26. The threat of Mozgov is even more important than what he actually does. Particularly on defense.

27. Mozgov may not get a lot of blocks, but he is changing shots and altering opponent offenses.

28. Waiters and Smith stats per 36 are very similar. But JR fits better with the Cavs.

29. JR shooting much better from three point range with the Cavs than Dion.

30. JR is a much more legitimate three point shooting threat than Dion is.

31. JR is a better fit than Dion with the Cavs because of his three point shooting ability.

32. JR will do something to frustrate the team and organization. This is his track record.

33. Host: JR has seemed to have a really good attitude. Windy: So far.

34. Dion has run his mouth since he went to Oklahoma City. I don't completely understand that.

35. If Dion thinks he will get a lot of passes from Durant and Westbrook, he hasn't watched a lot of Oklahoma City games.

36. Dion not average many more minutes or shots in Oklahoma City than he did in Cleveland. Not much of a difference.

37. I think Dion was well liked in the locker room. But I think Dion's antics and how he played was irritating to his teammates.

38. Shumpert is more likely to get late 4th quarter minutes than JR because of his defense.

39. I expect Shumpert to play tonight against Charlotte.

40. I think ultimately Shumpert will be the starter at shooting guard.

41. Shumpert will be put on Kevin Durant for much of the time when Cavs play Thunder. This is one reason why Cavs got him (to help on defense, take stress off the Cavs defense).

42. With Shumpert coming back, you will see less Dellavedova.

43. I like Dellavedova, he is a success story. But he's playing too many minutes.

44. With Blatt shortening his rotation to 8, guys playing too many minutes. With Shumpert back, you can reduce LeBron and JR minutes. And Dellavedova does not have to play any shooting guard.

45. Ideally in the NBA you want to play a 9 man rotation. In the playoffs you want to play 8 and trust 7. Shumpert likely to be in the 7, Delly not likely to be in that 7.

46. Ramon Sessions makes too much money to get at point guard. Norris Cole also may make too much money to acquire.

47. Cavs only trade chip at this point is a second rounder this year (Portland/other team tied to).

48. They may be able to trade for Pablo Prigioni. With the second rounder.

49. Would be great if they could get Norris Cole, but seems they not have assets for it.

50. I think the need for a backup point guard is greater than the need for another shooter like Ray Allen.

51. Ray Allen did not have a great year last year.

52. LeBron and Ray Allen talk and meet all the time. They stay in touch.

53. I think Ray Allen could end up with the Atlanta Hawks. Could play behind Kyle Korver. And it is close to his Miami home.

54. I'm kind of surprised that Marion made it public that he is going to retire.

55. Shawn Marion is having the worst season of his career. And he's not getting as many minutes.

56. I don't think Dallas even offered Marion a contract this last summer. That is a red flag.

57. Marion can still be valuable. But as the 8th guy and not the 6th guy. I think Blatt has come to the same conclusion.

58. Marion was still a good signing. He can still help in the playoffs as a spot defender. I think Marion has looked better recently.

59. Marion has been one of the most frustrated players this year.
(does this lend credibility to thought that Marion was one of the guys trashing Blatt before?)

60. I don't think LeBron will get mad that Miller is getting fewer minutes.

61. Mike Miller is a zombie. He will rise again. One of the years in Miami he only played like 30 meaningful minutes during the whole season, and then he was starting in the finals and hitting three pointer after three pointer. He will show up and be important once again in the postseason.

62. Salary Cap 101. Kyrie Irving had a bad night last night because he did not get voted into the All Star Game, which cost him like 7-8 million dollars over the next few years. This is the Derrick Rose provision. It will cost him like 1.5-2.0 milion per year for the next few years. This will give the Cavs a bit more money to use.

63. Lowry zipped past Wade and Kyrie in the last two voting batches for the All Star Game.

64. I'm not surprised that Curry got more votes than LeBron. During the main part of the voting the Cavs weren't playing well and LeBron was out, or not playing well.

65. Windy's Non Bold Prediction. I don't think there will be two Cavs added to the All Star Game. I think Kyrie will be added, and Kevin Love will not be added. I don't have a strong feeling on this though. I think there will be pressure to add some players from the Atlanta Hawks. I think the decision will come down to Bosh or Love, and Bosh has had a better season than Love.

66. Cleveland against Oklahoma City was my finals prediction. I still think that this could be the finals match up. I think it should be a great game on Sunday. Hopefully we get to get a sense of how the teams really match up. We did not see that last time.

67. Hornets have won like 7 of last 8 games. Tough test for Cavs tonight.

Funny, Windy's earlier prediction was that Chicago would win the East. Flipping? Marion may have criticized Blatt privately since he was quoted after an early game about never playing so few minutes.

Windy just seemed so negative now that the Cavs are doing well, but was so anxious to comment when they were struggling. I think its the ESPN in him its almost like he is waiting or wants the Cavs to go on a losing streak so he can have something to talk about. Also I have noticed that he really spends a lot of time up in Bristol and doesn't really seem like he is even around the team that much so most of the stuff he says seems like its coming from an outsiders opinion. He is not in the know like he use to be with the organization.

Prigioni would be a great snag for that 2nd rounder, what's his contract look like?

Whoever that doofus is that hosts the show (not Windy) is so effing annoying.

How can a guy host a basketball-exclusive show and say things like "Steven Curry", "Ramone Sessions" and refer the to the air pressure in a ball as "PTI, or whatever".

Ugh.

Also, Windy's got a new weekly national ESPN show with Marc Stein and Amin Elhassan.

http://espnmediazone.com/us/press-r...spectives-top-hosts-reporters-around-country/

Actually pretty excited about this. LOOOOVE Amin. Bold opinions who's usually dead-on with his analysis. Was an executive with the Suns for years (was the Assistant Director of Basketball Operations while Griff was there). I listened to a podcast of just him and Zach Lowe a few months ago and it was fascinating.

He forgot to say that winning cures everything.

I don't get how people can say LeBron wasn't playing as well because he wasn't 100%, and then also say he wasn't playing well because he was trying to force Blatt out. I don't buy the Blatt part. If anything, I would say maybe LeBron was just testing Blatt, and what he was made of, but even that seems a little out there to me. I just don't think it's logical to believe LeBron was purposely not exerting effort in an attempt to make Blatt look horrible, I think it's more so that he wasn't healthy. He's healthier now with Blatt still as the coach, and his effort has increased.

As I have said before, I don't think LeBron was ever trying to get Blatt fired, because when has that ever worked in the middle of a season? If you get a coach fired in the middle of the season, you just bring on more scrutiny to your team and the bullseye is put squarely on the players. It doesn't add up.

What I actually believe is LeBron just didn't give two shits about Blatt. Many people took that as him trying to get Blatt fired, but I think it has more to do with LeBron feeling like the whole team's successes and failures were on his shoulders.

In the beginning, other than the Chicago game, LeBron gave Kyrie the opportunity to run the offense so LeBron could play off the ball. Kyrie struggled in that role, reverting back to iso ball instead of running an offense, Dion took Dion shots, and the defense sucked. I think LeBron got pissed at Kyrie and Blatt after that Washington game where they put up 78 points and decided he couldn't wait on them to figure it out. He took over the offense and almost immediately the team went on an 8 game winning streak. I think that Washington game is when LeBron lost all patience with Kyrie and Blatt and took it upon himself to fix it. By losing his patience, bad body language formed. My guess is Blatt never got on Kyrie for hijacking the offense so LeBron lost his respect for him and decided he had free reign because it was clear to him Blatt wasn't disciplining guys for doing things wrong(except Dion lol).

As a result, was LeBron undermining Blatt? Yes. Was he trying to get him fired? Hell no. If he was, that 8 game winning streak would have never happened in the first place. I really do think LeBron wants to mentor the young guys, but he just doesn't have any patience. I think he felt after that lackluster start that Blatt wasn't adjusted to the NBA yet and LeBron didn't have time to wait on him, so he said "I'll make us start winning." And he did. LeBron will start respecting Blatt when Blatt starts doing things that allow the Cavs to win games, like the "point" for example. He may not develop that respect until he sees what Blatt does in the playoffs. LeBron does not hide his emotions well. That's his biggest flaw.
