at the end of the day it doesn't matter. I can certainly see Blatt not saying much and using 15-20 games as Dion's audition and then based on compatibility with the program Dion's status with the Cavs will be determined.

There is way too much on the line for this team for someone like Dion not to be on a short leash.

Someone on Twitter said it best - Dion said at the end of the year they will call it big 4 or big 5. The Twitter guy was like " how about worrying more about being called a champion at the end of the year". I don't like this Dion character mind set at all. But he does have talent and ability to knock down shot and change a game's momentum. The problem is, big picture, it is way more important with this team that everyone accept their role than show the world they can break people down and knock fadeaway js in their faces.

I will be surprised if he finishes the season as a member of this team. You cannot have on a team at this level a guy with issues as a starter.

Dion has said something like this. I think it was media day when he said, "At the end of the day, you gonna say Dion Waiters was a champion" and paraphrasing, that was all that mattered to him.

Yeah it is getting lost in here how he wants to win really bad and he will do what it takes to get there. It's no coincidence that he continually showed his admiration for the Spurs every time they met up last year.

Dion isnt auditioning for anything. He is clearly the starting two guard. He also looks to be an important part of this team now and in the future.

Did Dion say eff LebronJames or something? All iv seen is renewed energy out of him and a great attitude

Lol, Dion is not auditioning for anything. The Cavs and Dan Gilbert LOVE Dion. They would have to be swayed by another team for a deal.

Unless something bad happens, he is staying on this team long term, and the starting shooting guard.

This is Dion, this how is he.

Loved that interview with Dion. For the bulk of this site that's been here for years, you can see each year how he becomes more comfortable and more open in the interviews. Two years ago, you couldn't get more than a 10-15 second clip out of him and zero eye contact. Now he's practically orating out there.

And really, everything he said was on point. We were without Love, who can shoot over any zone and without Marion, who knows how Dallas plays. I watched the whole game and only took fault w maybe 1-2 of his shots. The rest were open shots that he just missed. All players have off shooting nights. And he wasn't taking shots away from LeBron. For some reason, LeBron just was in facilitator mode the whole first half and constantly looked for everyone else's shot instead of his own. In the regular season, when LeBron wants to shot, he's going to shoot.

Ultimately this preseason has been a pretty obvious litmus test for the long timers who don't like Dion and the July2014ers who don't know Dion. Making judgements that he doesn't fit or "doesn't get it" after 5 exhibition games, with an entirely new team , coached by a new staff, with other stars out in every game but the first? That's just lazy.

I don't care how many "dumb" ratings I will get. This unapologetic chucker and Blatt will struggle to coexist. Just wait and see

When he pulls up and is wide open, I want him taking the shot. It is as simple as that unless Lebron is cutting or Kyrie/Mike Miller/K-Love is wide open as well. He has shown me enough ability to think that taking nearly wide open looks is a good decision for him. However, his pull up long 2s still remain the worst shot in the entire Cavs offensive arsenal, which is more a statement to how strong that arsenal could potentially be.

I don't know if there has been a single dribble-drive of his in the preseason where he didn't try to make something happen, involve teammates or get an easy two. He is also there on every key fast-break, and getting assists.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves, Dion has been very good in the preseason, not great, and shown some impressive flashes while playing hard-nosed D.

"Unapologetic chucker" shooting 45% off 13.6 FGA in the preseason...

Lol okay.

I unapologetically gave you the "old" ranking instead for the played out take on Dion being a chucker and not being a guy who can totally grow and thrive in this system and with this collection of players. Also old and stale is using the dumpster fire of the past two years(his first two in the league) as some sort of barometer for what we'll see in the coming years. Dumb, if I would have used it, would have been reserved for making this analysis of of a set of games in which at least 1 but often 2 of Love, LeBron, and Kyrie have been out. And in the preseason at that. 5 preseason games. Dion is confident and brash and those traits serve him well. He is nowhere near JRSmith Land

Of course Dion can "grow and thrive" here. That's obviously a possibility. But it's an open question whether or not he will actually do so.

... It's just preseason and no one really cares how many shots are being taken by who. It's to build team chemistry and get an idea of what the players are capable of.

But more importantly, I don't see anything wrong with Dion taking the most shots if he's open. LeBron, Love and Irving are too good to just get one on one coverage. If Dion is open, why should he pass up the shot as a perimeter player? Last season was different because he had to make plays for himself, so his shooting percentage suffered. This team is going to be extremely unselfish and Dion's key role is (will be) to make open shots.

It's going to be a fun season, boys and girls.
