Addressing the hole at center

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Why would Portland give him up though? There 15 and 4 and look good.

It would seem more likely a team that is struggling would be willing to shed salary ala Charlotte

We like big white centers who can't stay healthy? :p

Also don't forget they had the worse bench in the league last season

Ben is keeping an eye on Chris Kaman. I'm keeping an eye on Meyers Leonard (part of the Bogans TPE and a 2nd round pick) and Mason Plumlee (with Andrei Kirilenko for Dion Waiters).

I think we should go for Dalembert. His advanced stats for rim protecting are amazing, all of this while playing with a shit defense in NYC.
Also, one year contract which doesn't arm us long term and very cheap player.

Considering the state of NYC assets, we should be able to get him for not much. Maybe 2nd round pick + expiring? TPE ?

He is a really nice filler until next summer when we have a better idea of who we are and what we need.

Come on Griff, go get him :)

I wouldn't give a TPE for him..
I would go for John Henson though

Again, it'd be nice to be able to throw in a second round pick, but the Cavs don't have any.

I don't see a viable trade for Dalembert. He would bring a skillset the team could potentially use, but his overall low basketball IQ and offensive limitations make him less than an ideal fit. Makes you wonder if he were on the current roster whether he would actually play. In any event, he is an expiring contract so using the TPE as a pure salary dump for the Knicks doesn't make much sense. It's not like they would be clearing cap space for next year, and it's the Knicks so they probably aren't too concerned about the luxury tax bill. Maybe a salary dump trade would make sense if they had a young center behind him, but they don't. And the Cavs don't have much to offer as a sweetener, since I can't imagine they would include the Memphis pick.

Kaman is in the front court rotation for Portland, so it's hard to see Portland as a good trade partner. (I think this is good news, because I really don't like Kaman at all.) I guess, depending on his contract situation (he's got a team option), he's a better possibility for next year.

Any word on Koufos? I know he is the mold of Kaman-Esque bigs and is on a one year cheap contract. He went to OSU so he has a Ohio background and would be a perfect backup/fill in starter. I know Memphis is killing it so anything is unlikely but I could see him being that type of guy for the right price. They could definitely use someone like waiters. Maybe a waiters, Amundsen for pondexter and TPE for Koufos?

Edit--> Memphis has a knack for making our crappy bigs into the rotation I.E. Jon Leur

Leur was one of those guys Hollinger was always high on based on his college stats. Waiters is another guy who the advanced metrics liked out of college: wouldn't be surprised if they were a team that was interested in taking a chance on him. They have a good track record with knuckleheads (i.e. Randolph and Tony Allen)

Pretty much agree with Triumph. He played some surprisingly good minutes last year for the Warriors, but it's hard to rely much at all on a guy of his age and with that much mileage for anything more than some spot minutes defense. He's certainly no real answer to the issue of a strong defensive center.

This is really a huge issue. We need someone that can alter shots. Dion and TT, and the Memphis pick should be available. They are valuable pieces so I'm not trading them for Koufos. Not athletic enough to give up good pieces for.

how about Vitor Faverani? he's having knee surgery right now and will be out 6-8 weeks. reportedly the Celtics are thinking about waiving him (apparently they would like to keep Powell and that makes it tough to keep Faverani). he didn't play a ton last year but put up solid numbers in limited time (his 45.3% Opp FG% at the Rim is also very good). i wouldn't mind giving him a non-guaranteed contract and see if he recovers

Faverani was waived due to the Rondo deal. Supposedly ready to practice by mid-January. This is a pickup that could pay long term dividends after the all-star break and beyond, as he is the type of center the Cavs need. Also Brazilian, so he has the built-in mentor...

2 first rounders, dion and the tpe, two separate trades, turn that into afflao and mozgov
