We're top 5 in offensive efficiency and 23rd in defensive efficiency. So if your argument is our bad offense is leading to our bad defense, I'd sure love to see some kind of evidence to back it up. Because even just going by last night's game, we gave up 29 points in the 1st quarter, a quarter I think we all can agree the Cavs played excellent offensive basketball. So even in a quarter where the Cavs weren't giving the Hawks many fast break chances because they were putting the ball through the hoop a bunch, Atlanta still scored pretty damn easily.
No, my argument isn't that the offense is better than the defense. What I'm saying is, outside of Dion, we have no bench scoring. And I know everyone thinks that's fine because we have "the big three," but look at how that formula worked out for OKC last season. You need at least 1-2 bench scorers and right now we have none sans Dion. I'm all for trading Waiters, but my question was originally intended to ask how do we deal with the lack of bench scoring without him?

Wtf is the big three? a team should have 5 good players, look at Dallas, everyone has his roll.

I'd gladly take what OKC had last season over what I'm seeing this season. Sure, it still might not end up in a title, but it ends up in a legitimate shot at one. Right now, we have no shot at a title playing bottom 10 defense. None. However, if you fill a hole by trading Waiters and the defense makes an improvement from that trade, then our chances at a title go up. Maybe we still don't win a title because maybe we now lack bench scoring, but our odds will be better and we will have an easier hole to fill in the off-season.

So, to answer your question directly, we should give up bench scoring in order to upgrade the defense. Improving the defense will do more good than losing some bench scoring will do harm.

Do you really think this team won't develop, as is, to being in the ECF? Because that is what last year's OKC reached. Maybe it's just a disagreement of progress. I have seen teams start off looking much worse that come around to win a finals (hello 2001 Lakers?!). I think the best thing for us to do, for now, is focus on team defense (which trading for a Brewer-esque player probably won't help much) and develop bench scoring.

One of the answers to the bench scoring issue is Delly, because he will make sure guys get shots and find open guys.

We do need a bench scorer if Dion goes. But if we let Kyrie play with the second team as he is now, we should be ok in that department. And it would be good if the primary bench scorer is shooting better than 40% FG and 47% TS.

Our biggest problem right now is defense rather than offense. Dion is a gritty defender when he wants to be, but he lacks length and when his offense is off he seems to kind of drift mentally.

There are guys out in FA like Marshon Brooks, Michael Beasley, Jamaal Franklin and others that could fill the role of coming off the bench as a scorer.

I like Franklin the most out the names currently listed as FA's. Might not be as explosive as the others but plays defense and is willing to get gritty, crash the boards and do other little things that would help the Cavs bench. Only 23 so still has plenty of time to get better

Beasley is a head case. We don't want him.

Franklin I don't know.

Brooks, I like him. He's got some talent. He's not incredible, but I wouldn't mind looking into him.

People wanted to trade Dion for Corey brewer,, Brewer went for two 2nd round picks and troy daniels.

Hopefully Griffin got a deal done for Dion at the half. WE NEED a center. It's been long enough.

I'm hopeful that some sort of trade is in the works. But, Occam's razor says Blatt was probably just sick of hearing Dion scream and pout as much as most of us are.

Not sure why he was benched. As far Dion antics go, tonight was rather light. He had a steal and assist to go with his four points in six minutes. Other than stopping the offense cold, as he does, nothing too terrible.

Lol, teams are getting bargains on top notch players like Rondo while the Cavs overpaid for a player that wasn't even gonna sign next year :D
Ainge made our deal of acquiring Love look bad lol.
Eventhough I think Wiggins is a bad player right now, damn how did the Rockets get Corey for so cheap :/

Then Blatt should resign and admit he isn't cut out to be a NBA coach.
