sighYou are missing the forest for the trees...all of your angst is wildly misdirected.
Look, Dan Gilbert has been the de facto GM for the last few seasons. If CG had his way we would have had Jonas instead of TT, Gasol instead of Bynum, no Jarret Jack, no Luol Deng, the Bennett pick would've been traded...I could go on. And it wasn't just the bad decisions that were forced on mgmt that were so painful. It was then having to waste VERY valuable assets to undo Gilbert's mistakes that was the double whammy.
If Dan really wants to clean house, then he should do what all successful organizations do - let the basketball people make the basketball decisions!! Meddling owners have gotten us where we are today. Dan is an outstanding owner when it comes to some things, when it comes to player personnel decisions, Dan, Tan and Bald are just awful and should keep their hands off.
i mean, most of gilbert's other decisions were bad, and they did cost the team to some extent. but with lebron coming back, none of them really drastically altered the direction of the team. yes, it would've been nice if they didn't have to worry about dumping jack's contract, using zeller/karasev as incentive, etc but in spite of all that the team is still well-positioned now and going forward.
but....that tristan pick. that one did really change the landscape of this team.
edit: also, should mention lebron returning obviously bailed the hell out of gilbert. if that didn't happen, then the ramifications of those poor decisions would've been a lot worse.
owners making basketball decisions - or in any other sport, for that matter - is almost universally bad. hell, even when your team has an owner who is the greatest to ever play the sport, he still tends to make awful decisions. leave the basketball decisions to those paid to make them. always. always. always.
