Let it all out. The Cavaliers Rant Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
You are missing the forest for the trees...all of your angst is wildly misdirected.

Look, Dan Gilbert has been the de facto GM for the last few seasons. If CG had his way we would have had Jonas instead of TT, Gasol instead of Bynum, no Jarret Jack, no Luol Deng, the Bennett pick would've been traded...I could go on. And it wasn't just the bad decisions that were forced on mgmt that were so painful. It was then having to waste VERY valuable assets to undo Gilbert's mistakes that was the double whammy.

If Dan really wants to clean house, then he should do what all successful organizations do - let the basketball people make the basketball decisions!! Meddling owners have gotten us where we are today. Dan is an outstanding owner when it comes to some things, when it comes to player personnel decisions, Dan, Tan and Bald are just awful and should keep their hands off.
sigh :(

i mean, most of gilbert's other decisions were bad, and they did cost the team to some extent. but with lebron coming back, none of them really drastically altered the direction of the team. yes, it would've been nice if they didn't have to worry about dumping jack's contract, using zeller/karasev as incentive, etc but in spite of all that the team is still well-positioned now and going forward.

but....that tristan pick. that one did really change the landscape of this team.

edit: also, should mention lebron returning obviously bailed the hell out of gilbert. if that didn't happen, then the ramifications of those poor decisions would've been a lot worse.

owners making basketball decisions - or in any other sport, for that matter - is almost universally bad. hell, even when your team has an owner who is the greatest to ever play the sport, he still tends to make awful decisions. leave the basketball decisions to those paid to make them. always. always. always.

Max I thought Thompson was Grant's choice because of all the so-called red tape regarding his contract?

I wish more people realized this.

Like you said, Dan is a great owner in so many aspects, but in some areas he's submarined his own team. In the same vein, Grant had issues too, but I can't believe how badly people skewer that guy. He made some brilliant moves while he was here. They weren't all winners, but I had very few problems with the Grant era once I learned where some of the questionable moves actually came from.

That said, we should all be beyond thrilled that despite all the meddling that went on here, we landed three top 20 players that will in all likelihood be here for a long time. If other things had transpired, we might have been more prepared to hit the ground running this year. Like Max said, the cleanup that was required from ownership's involvement might end up costing us the chance at a title this year. But fortunately the future looks pretty bright beyond that.

I know I wanted for the Cavs to get a center since Z was here..
Going forward, some of the deals Griff has done , I do not remember all the details but it seems to me like he gave away some of the second rounders instead of keeping one or two..is that handcuffing him at the present to get a big in here?
I would like to throw some ideas out there, although I think you know I'm one of the few that ever brings up trade ideas...I don't know what they could get right now, I do know they need a defensive presence out there.

Ivan johnson, 6'8 free agent pf. Crazy scary lookin dude. We need a couple players like him on the team to put fear into the opponents. Cause right now we are just soft. I know we need a center and perimeter players over 6'3 but man we need toughness, hard nosed, slightly off kilter dudes who dont f around.
Lakers had artest, bynum, shaq. Boston had kg and perk. Miami had birdman and haslem. San antonio had splitter. Bulls had rodman, pistons had rasheed and ben. I could keep going. The fact is we dont have that intimidation factor. All our players are just way to nice or finesse we dont have those guys that you would want with you in a fight.
Not saying we need a roster full of pyschos but a few guys with that dog in em so we stop gettin bullied is what we need.

That Ivan Johnson, he's so hot right now... Seriously though, stop posting the same thing in every thread. We get it, Ivan.

Well with LeBron out and us having an incredibly tough schedule, no real center and a lack of chemistry, we have a strong chance at going under .500 in January... There's something I never thought I'd say that this season.

If we don't get Love back asap and keep playing the way we're playing (losing badly to an injured Bucks team), how many games do we win?

My main concern is that Love and Kyrie were already playing heavy minutes with Lebron now that he is out and Blatt is feeling the pressure he will increase their minutes instead of trying to develop the bench .

He signs a 1 year deal. He undermines his coach. He plays his worst since his rookie year. He has his first prolonged injury in his career.

If I didn't know better, I'd say he just forced us to liquidate our assets, and he and Love bolt to NY next year.

I'm sorry, what? Did I miss something in the last couple of years. Pau or Marc? This was a real option?

Hearing this is just so damn depressing.

Thanks for your repeated reinforcements that the dysfunctions of the org start at the top. It makes things easier to evaluate.

We should all rant if when James comes back those games without didn't benefit anything. I expect some team growth in play from this.
