LeBron James

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This is just my opinion based on years of watching LeBron operate, but I think he's hoping to apply a little pressure on the FO to get Tristan signed (thus getting Rich Paul paid), and to maybe test their resolve w/r/t Blatt. I also can't help but think there's a player or two he'd like to bring in via trade, but I'm not going to risk the dreaded "X" of disagreement and name said player(s).
Cmon man, share!

Red Xs are badges of honor around here :chuckle:

Just a clarification, but don't we need to sign LeBron first into our cap space since we don't have his bird rights and thus can't go over the cap to sign him like the rest of our free agents?

I know this is often met with significant eye rolling, but I feel the same.

Wish list is for Cavs to go after Coach K. Then he'll join Larry Brown as only coaches to win NBA/NCAA 'ships.

How much damn money would they have to pay for Coach K while he's still paying umpteen other coaches that he's recently fired.

I get that Gilbert is an extremely wealthy man but he doesn't actually have a limitless amount to spend on a basketball team. There is, somewhere, an amount he won't be willing to spend.

We don't have his full Bird Rights, but we have a weaker form.
NON-BIRD EXCEPTION -- This is also a component of the Veteran Free Agent exception. Its name is somewhat of a misnomer, since Non-Bird really is a form of Bird rights...
This exception allows a team to re-sign its own free agent to a salary starting at up to 120% of his salary in the previous season

Because a 20% raise would exceed a max for LeBron, it essentially functions as full Bird Rights.

Yeah not buying the heat being a threat. They couldn't make the east playoffs with their roster and all of a sudden a rookie is going to put them over the top? Lol ok.

In all fairness, they were in the 7th spot when Bosh went out on Feb 21st. They had just acquired Dragic on the 19th. The lineup of Dragic, Wade, Deng, Bosh, and Whiteside never played a minute together last season. Yes, father time is catching up with Wade and Deng, but to think they would have missed the playoffs with a healthy Bosh is a bit crazy.

If LeBron wanted to voice his displeasure with Blatt, he wouldn't need to posture as a free agent to accomplish his goal. If he had an issue with Blatt, Blatt would be gone. Obviously, LBJ is ok with that relationship continuing.

LeBron's public statements on the coaching situation have indicated a willingness to let the FO do as they see fit. Do I buy this? Not entirely, but, hey, we'll see how it plays out.

This is just speculation, but given LeBron's age and how crushed he was to lose his fourth Finals, I wouldn't be surprised if he asked Griffin to see what Chris Paul would cost the Cavs in a trade. It's unrealistic, but LeBron strikes me as a guy who thinks big, if only because he's accustomed to getting what he wants. And he wants that third ring in the worst way.

But I also think he genuinely likes Kyrie, and wants to win with him. The options are limited. Provided Love re-signs, it's just a question of replacing a few of those dead bodies on the bench w/ guys who still have some basketball left in them.

One last thought: if LeBron's not attempting to influence the FO's decisions, why not commit on July 1, and save them some grief. That I know he won't do that is one of those little things that still irks me about LeBron.

7th in the East

Oh the glory

Fuck a Miami

Ok fine, but even without bosh, there is no excuse for a team with Wade/Deng/Whiteside(since the media jerked off to him)/Dragic to miss the playoffs in the east, especially when they were in the 7th spot before Bosh was out for the season. Not only that, but their schedule was pretty light after the all star break. Now all of a sudden they are going to be a threat to win the East? With all teams healthy, I would place Indiana, Chicago, and Washington well before the Heat.

I'm not saying that this is totally untrue. However, to completely discount the fact that the Heat lost Bosh (who was by far their best player last year) just seems odd. They had to completely change the way they played after losing Bosh, all while trying to integrate Dragic into the fold.

In the same breath, shouldn't Indiana have been able to make the playoffs without Paul George? Few teams can lost their best player on the team and still make the playoffs. How did the Cavs look when LeBron took his two week sabbatical? Like dog shit. Granted they didn't look that great before then, but when he was out we were terrible.

If Miami can stay healthy, I don't think its a big stretch to think they could beat any of the teams you listed. Dragic, Wade, Deng, Bosh, and Whiteside is going to be a tough lineup for most teams in the East to matchup with.

Does that mean I think they could beat the Cavs in a seven game series? No. But I wouldn't be shocked to see it go to six or seven games if a few things broke Miami's way.

I hear you, but Coach K makes 6 mill now so he could be had for 8 mill per, no? And, of course, everyone has their limits... But I get the sense that Dan is going "all in" for the next 2-3 years in order to bring a championship to Cleveland (luxury tax territory of 60 mill?).

There's something that still creeps me out with the LeBron/Blatt dynamic. Maybe/hopefully it will improve in Year #2. I think Krzyzewski is one of the only coaches out there that would have LeBron's ear and respect. If somehow the interest was mutual, I think Dan would cut the check. At a shade under a net worth of 5 billion, his limit is pretty high.

The Lakers, Knicks, etc. couldn't offer Coach K enough money to make the jump to the NBA. The guy isn't interested.

Think about 6 million dollars for a guy like that. He's not living a player's lifestyle. He's on top of his field, he's worshipped across sports, and he gets to coach THE BEST players in the world every few seasons.

He's not coming. People need to let it go.
