So long, Kay Felder

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I know he was cut after the Cavs and he even said that was the motivating moment for him. Felder is in a very similar position as Green was though. Green got only garbage time and we cut him after 1 year for the team to keep older players.

Who knows if Green would even be in the NBA if we kept him but a large portion of the 2010-2011 team aren't in the NBA anymore either.

I feel like we need to trust our scouting and give young players more than a year to develop especially if they aren't getting minutes, more than garbage time.

This is a total non-issue. Sure, it would be nice to have a young player or two. But even if we did, how much would they really play in the finals? I just don't see why guys get so consistently bothered by end of the bench issues.

I'd be shocked if anyone in "scouting" loved Kay Felder. I have only heard one person positively gush over Kay, and it's Dan Gilbert. Just more Detroit family nepotism. One of his excited tweets after a D-League game.

Holy crap - I did not expect Felder to be able to dunk, at 5' 9"

He needs to be in the dunk contest. Only 2 inches taller than Spud Webb.

And I'd hate to be #0 (Vander Blue?) being dunked on by a 5' 9 guy

Our front office hasn't been bad about identifying talent but has been bad about giving those players time to develop. If we keep giving up on players, we will run out of assets. As much as we want a 15 man roster full of playoff ready players, we need the back end of the roster to grow player to replace or at least be trade chips for when we need them.

We gave up on Danny Green, Joe Harris, and Dwight Powell too easily. I don't think Joe Harris or Powell would be playoff rotation players but they could be good trade chips. Adding aging vets to take the place of young players hasn't helped us. With the two way contracts it's less likely we let Felder go and give the roster spot to a young player. Letting Felder go will just be to give another over the hill vet a roster spot.

Let's give him more than a year and garbage time to develop. He has his faults but we need trade assets. He might never see our playoff rotation but he might get us a player that does. We wont have to choose to let guys like TJ Williams or Andrew White go this year, two way contracts were made for these guys.
Yeah, let's give him time to grow another 10 inches.

Did I say anything about them playing in the finals or even the playoffs? We rested guys all through out the season, there is time to develop these guys. It would be nice if they became part of the playoff rotation but if we are able to use them as an asset to get a rotation player that is good enough. We lack assets, if we are giving up on draft picks a year in, how are we going to have any assets in the future.

Well, as a small market team, we'll eventually have to go through a full rebuild again.

We are not the Spurs.

Hell, even LA and NY have to do full rebuilds now. The dream of a perpetual contender is fool's gold--it's over.

We'll be in win-now mode for the next couple years, and then we'll tank and suck for a couple years. It is inevitable. It is ok.

I know we have to tank at some point again, it the best way to get a star player. If we can develop players like Felder that are draft picks that can be bought. We can turn cash to a draft pick to an asset for a useful player, hopefully in our playoff rotation.

Imagine if we could turn Felder and Frye into a backup point guard or another area of need at the deadline. We don't need the young guys to completely develop into a NBA rotation player, we just need them to develop enough that they are an intriguing player to another team.

WTF you talkin bout? We're contending until Lebron hangs it up at age 42. Then we'll reload with his son(s) and go another 15 years.

So that goes to prove that Felder is NOT getting cut anytime soon!

:slamdunk:

A two year rebuild? Probably closer to two decades.

I wish I could rate you with the rainbow.
I wish you could too.....but yes, you should generalize more. It helps the conversation flow when you're vague and assume people know what you're talking about on an online forum.

Dude. My point was simple: we are going to have to do a full rebuild at some point.

The number of years it might take had nothing to do with that.

Go away.
