So long, Kay Felder

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Just tell him to go out there and set up all our shooters for a stretch of 3-4 minutes each half.

Hey short britches, go out there and stop being so consistently terrible. It's just 3-4 minutes!

How hard would it be for Lue to figure out a couple plays each game for Felder to run in the regular season. Build him up slowly in the season till he has a set of 15-20 plays that work really well for him and the bench.

Yeah I figured him hitting the backboard while missing the rim entirely was him being nervous due to the limited game action. He has somehow regressed in his ability to read the game which isn't great for a small guy who can't shoot or defend. Guys that small are LIGHTS out shooters or elite at SOMETHING or else they wouldn't make the league. Tall stiffs who lack ability at the pro level as well as the athletic tweener with no bball IQ are easy to find but guys that short who can't shoot or finish...

Maybe he improves one day but guys like that don't improve on a contending team. I think the experiment should be over and the team should cut their losses and look for our version of Yogi Ferrell or Jonathan simmons.

TJ Williams plays with poise, defends, shoots well off the dribble and finishes with either hand at an excellent rate. I think we should bring him and Prathers in for camp

If Lue is going to operate the same as last year then there is no point to have Felder on the roster. He need NBA minutes and practice to make the jump to the NBA level. He needs to go against NBA speed, length, and height. I feel like this year was a lost year for him. He actually looked better in summer league last year. He looks like he is forcing shots because he has no clue what works for him anymore.

I do think his court vision has improved and if Lue can use him as pure point guard for 6-8 minutes a game all season, it will give him the time to develop on court and figure out his shot/finishing. Just tell him to go out there and set up all our shooters for a stretch of 3-4 minutes each half.

Youre making an argument to develop a player without explaining why he shoild be developed.

What has he shown that warrants putting him in NBA games? What's the skill(s) that look NBA quality, and worth developing?

He's a good athlete, Im told. But its the NBA, and unless you're extremely tall, being a good athlete is a pre-requisite. For a tiny player, its absolutely required to even be considered.

Cause right now he looks like a total project, and I'm note sure what value there is in developing a 5'8 project.

I'm just not seeing it at the moment. No outside shot, doesnt have a right hand which really hurts his finishing, and the problem is he doesnt seem to notice and just continues hoisting and playing 1on1...when he simpy dowsnt have the required abilities to be a good 1on1 player.

If Kyrie Irving were 6 inches shorter, had no outside shot, and could only finish with one hand, that's Kay Felder.

Regardless of how much we spent to draft him, he was still the 54th pick. Guys drafted in the 50s hardly ever make a name for themselves.

But you know pretty soon if a guy can play, especially point guards. Guys like TJ McConnell and Delly were undrafted but showed NBA ability quickly.

Kay Felder just isn't good and we should move on.

If he envisions himself as small scoring guard, and not a pure piint guard, then his career is overseas, because he doesn't have the tools to score at a high rate here.
I think "pint guard" may be the best description of this guy.:chuckle:

Basically Kay Felder would be a great player if only he was taller, quicker, dribbled better, could shoot better, could get to the basket batter, could score better, could pass better, and could defend better.

Our front office hasn't been bad about identifying talent but has been bad about giving those players time to develop. If we keep giving up on players, we will run out of assets. As much as we want a 15 man roster full of playoff ready players, we need the back end of the roster to grow player to replace or at least be trade chips for when we need them.

We gave up on Danny Green, Joe Harris, and Dwight Powell too easily. I don't think Joe Harris or Powell would be playoff rotation players but they could be good trade chips. Adding aging vets to take the place of young players hasn't helped us. With the two way contracts it's less likely we let Felder go and give the roster spot to a young player. Letting Felder go will just be to give another over the hill vet a roster spot.

Let's give him more than a year and garbage time to develop. He has his faults but we need trade assets. He might never see our playoff rotation but he might get us a player that does. We wont have to choose to let guys like TJ Williams or Andrew White go this year, two way contracts were made for these guys.

We did NOT give up on Green too easily. This has been debated many times. He was cut a second time AFTER the Cavs.

It was only after he was cut again that he got motivated. Sometimes it's on the player, and not the organization. And Green is a perfect example of that.

I know he was cut after the Cavs and he even said that was the motivating moment for him. Felder is in a very similar position as Green was though. Green got only garbage time and we cut him after 1 year for the team to keep older players.

Who knows if Green would even be in the NBA if we kept him but a large portion of the 2010-2011 team aren't in the NBA anymore either.

I feel like we need to trust our scouting and give young players more than a year to develop especially if they aren't getting minutes, more than garbage time.

Yeah hindsight is just annoying to see debated

I watched Green's rookie season and he flat out didn't deserve to play over anybody. He wasn't gonna steal minutes from LeBron, Anthony Parker, Jamario Moon, or Delonte West and those were the guys he would've had to outplay to do it and it I remember correctly we won 60 games that year and were like a well oiled machine. Yeah maybe it would've been smart to keep him at least 3 years to see if he got better but I cant say anybody messed up with him because he basically came out of nowhere with his success.

Im way more inclined to use hindsight to kill some front offices on stupid drafts picks tho. Like whoever passed over KD was stupid. KD out of college was clearly gonna be a 20 point scorer. Your only issue with him was strength and defensive potential. Both attributes that could be worked on.

I'm not mad about us cutting Danny Green or Joe Harris, I bring it up because I think we have to learn from it. We lack assets, yet people are calling for another second round pick to be cut after one year and limited playing time. When was the last time we hit on a second round draft pick? Boobie Gibson? If we haven't hit on a second round pick in 10 years maybe we are doing something wrong. If every one of those picks were out of the league then you have to look at the scouting department but we have been cutting guys early and they seem to develop elsewhere.

I'd be shocked if anyone in "scouting" loved Kay Felder. I have only heard one person positively gush over Kay, and it's Dan Gilbert. Just more Detroit family nepotism. One of his excited tweets after a D-League game.
