If/When we do deal Wally...

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
eddy curry? really we aren't that despeate. theis guy can't do anything all he is a big body who takes up space. Ben is a better player than him

He can be productive if he plays 30 mins, he's good for 16 and 6 with 56% shooting with those kind of minutes. He played well for Scott Skiles, as demanding a coach as any in the league.

If he comes with Lee, and the Knicks 1st round pick I'd be all for it.

Im in the camp who think that all we need is a strong durable pf for right now. A haslem/wilcox kind of guy. Not even a guy who will necessarily be long term, just to kinda get us to and through the playoffs helping to spell Ben adn Z as the rookies develop for the next year or 2.

I like the talk about John Salmons on the wing... a versatile wing who is defensive minded would be a perfect fit. I dont think we need to try to hit a homerun with Wallys exp. Especially if Fagan and Ferry make up and hold hands. If we can maintain or future flexibility and add two veteran guys , one pf and one sg like Sasha but with a brain, Id be happy.

Still would love Mike Miller at the deadline

I'm not sure that Mike Miller is all the feasible. Minnesota just acquired him on draft day. I don't think they'd give up on that experiment halfway into it's first year of existence, not with a young team.

Unless it's for a major talent or an almost perfect fit, I really don't see the Cavs taking back a huge contract if it runs past 2010.

If we're considering PF's from the former Sonics I'd rather bring in Collison than Wilcox. Wilcox is a lesser version of Gooden along with the same brain farts. Collison is just a hard worker who would be willing to play his role.

Salmons and Spencer Hawes would sure us up all the way around, giving up sasha and wally. To make any salaries work would require a third team. I dunno, but how in the hell did I get pulled into a freaking trade fantasy post. Damnit wth I thought the Cavs Talk forums. RchfldCavRaised did you fck with my computer to redirect me! Tell me your not still mad!:shakehead

Personally I think that Randolph would welcome the opportunity to play for a winner and improve on his image. He wouldn't have the pressure of being the man here either. Also blackhole syndrome is coachable. I know Randolph has a history, but I also think that Lebron and Ben, not to mention Mike Brown can keep him in check.

A. MB preaches D. If we break down our backcourt, our defense is not great. Mo is a work in process, although he shows flashes of having the ability to play the style Brown loves. West is tenacious but can be overly aggressive at times. By no means is he a shut down perimeter player, but is our best defensive guard. Boobie is intriguing, in that he came into the league known for playing good defense but has been anything but good on that side of the ball. He appears to have the makeup of a quick guard who can fill the lanes/holes on a dime. Unfortunately, he doesn't. Sasha is pretty decent but heck, Sasha can suck it. He's the definition of enigma.

I think that you put too much emphasis on the individual defense of the backcourt. Yeah, Mo, Boobie, Sasha and Delonte have their deficiencies, but Mike Brown is the master of hiding those with his defensive schemes and he's got all of them buying into those philosophies. Until I see a Mike Brown team that doesn't play stout defense (holdouts and injuries were the cause for some bad defense last year, but after the trade the D solidified in the playoffs), then I think all the talk about the defensive shortcomings of this guy and that guy are moot.

You are right however, when you talk about the frontcourt scoring because that's not a strength right now. But I think Mike Brown will get a little bit more creative this year and use LeBron and Wally at the 4 to give some scoring punch from the front court. Plus, I think that AV will have a solid year and provide some scoring down low.

Honestly, I think Wally will have a nice year, and I would not mind keeping him, IF he can score effectively off the bench (which after watching Friday's game, it looks like he's more comfortable in that role). If Hickson can come along and play meaningful minutes by January, then I think you move Wally if he can't hit a shot, or you get offered a proven talent like Dirk, and not someone who "just needs a change of scenery." The Cavs are closer than they've ever been and that includes the Finals team so I think Ferry doesn't need to blow his load and move Wally for guys with questionable attitudes/talent like Randolph, Curry or Al Harrington. He obviously needs to be conscious of the health status of guys like Z, AV and Ben Wallace, so if one of them goes down, then he has to make the trade, but like I said, it's not totally necessary.

But to answer your question, if the Cavs did trade Wally then I would like them to target:

1. Dirk
2. Sheed
3. Josh Howard
4. Melo
5. AK47
6. Jrich

In reality, the Cavs will probably trade Sasha for a guy like John Salmons, a quiet move that would have profound effects in the playoffs....

SO PUMPED FOR THE SEASON GO CAVS!

I would kind of like to see us maybe pry a 1st round pick from someone. maybe ak47 and there 1st rounder for wally. Expiring contracts are like gold to owners.
I'm not so sure we are going to be able to trade Wally's expiring contract as easy as everone thinks, there is one hell of alot of expiring contracts this year that range between 6-21m and most of the teams have better 1st picks to offer than we do.
Bibby(15,225,000), Gooden(7,100,000), Gordon(6,404,749), Kidd(21,372,000),
Stackhouse(7,000,000), Iverson(21,937,500), Rasheed(13,680,000), Artest (8,450,000), Nesterovic(8,400,000), Odom(11,400,000) Marion(17,180,000), Collins(6,200,000),
Harris(7,800,000), Swift(6,200,000), Marbury(21,937,500)
Rose(7,647,500), Miller(9,999,999), Lafrentz(12,722,500), Jackson($6,090,000)

Just thinking out loud...haven't checked salaries yet.

Two teams that could implode before Feb.:
Clippers and Kings:
Kaman or Camby
Brad Miller

Not sure the Clips would give up so soon, but hey, you never know. If one of those guys isn't fitting.

Just throwing them out there. I don't see Dirk being available: he's the face of that franchise, Kidd will be gone soon, but again...you never know.

It all depends what's on the market. I expect the best value to be at SG, but there are other factors as well. For the right person, a long-term contract well beyond 2010 would be worth taking on - but if there are some question marks - a shorter term contract that leaves us with our 2010 flexibility is attractive.

Great post

addition to that. I will say another Mo Williams type player and age with a Mo contract length. It would seal two players in the future with Lebron and put this team on the upswing to end his contract.

I know it is a reach but I'm still on the Joe Johnson bandwagon. Still hoping for a flop season out of the Hawks. He's had some time being the man and is one of the few who has an all-around game. I think Jason Richardson is probably the best realistic bet that could be had.

I will throw this out there. What if Wally is shooting lights out this season?

I really don't think that the Cavs will get an all-star talent in return for Wally. It's very important to realize that the Gasol trade was an anomaly. Most deals are not that one-sided. Also, any of the players mentioned that are already an expiring deal (Rasheed, Marion, Odom, etc.) will more than likely not be traded for another expiring contract like Wally's.

In order to get an above-average talent in return for Wally, the Cavs will have to take on a contract, either with a guy like Vince Carter or Zach Randolph, or with a role-player with a bad contract (think Brian Cardinal last year) also being part of the deal. I don't know if Danny Ferry would be willing to take that risk, especially with the recent comments made by Dan Gilbert where he said he expects the Cavs to have a ton of money available in 2010.

With all of that being said, there are some players that I do think the Cavs will target. If Dallas is struggling, I could see them making a play for Josh Howard, although his off-court discretions might squelch that deal. The only scenario where I could see the Cavs trading for an overpaid Knick player (Curry, Randolph) is if they are also getting David Lee. Would that be worth it to them? I don't know. I like a guy like Nick Collison, but would OKC be willing to take Wally back less than a year after they got rid of him? I suppose John Salmons could be a possibility, and one that I would welcome, but would Sacramento be willing to give him up for Wally's expiring? And will the Cavs feel as if they need a SG at that point of the season, or will they be happy with the rotation of Williams/West/Gibson at PG and SG?

Obviously, the bottom line is that it's still a little early to get a good feel on what the Cavs might/should do with Wally's expiring (and possibly Snow's for that matter). Hey, there's always a chance that they keep him (esp. if he's playing really well), and reap the rewards of his expiring contract themselves (seeing as how the Cavs do have the 2nd highest payroll in the league). My gut feeling is that they do end up trading Wally by the deadline, but unless other players are involved, it won't be for a talent like Gasol, unfortunately.

I agree, I dont think there will be a major trade. Most of our expiring contracts will do just that. Expire. Sasha might bring back someone, but not salmons. The kings are high on him and they are difficult to deal with anyways.

Camby man would be a perfect fit. Collison's contract is ridiculous. 6 years I believe.
