I'm curious as to who you guys' want in exchange. What position do you think we need to bolster most and what player do you think would fit best with our team?
To me, it's a 2-pronged issue:
I: Issue 1. Defense
A. MB preaches D. If we break down our backcourt, our defense is not great. Mo is a work in process, although he shows flashes of having the ability to play the style Brown loves. West is tenacious but can be overly aggressive at times. By no means is he a shut down perimeter player, but is our best defensive guard. Boobie is intriguing, in that he came into the league known for playing good defense but has been anything but good on that side of the ball. He appears to have the makeup of a quick guard who can fill the lanes/holes on a dime. Unfortunately, he doesn't. Sasha is pretty decent but heck, Sasha can suck it. He's the definition of enigma.
B. Our frontcourt is stout. LBJ should earn his first All Defensive team status. Z is stout, but for about 20-25 minutes. Ben Wallace still has it when his back isn't bothering him. Andy is Andy. Lorenzen Wright barely > Allen Henderson. Hickson and Jackson are rookies and will make rookie mistakes.
Our best defensive players, imo, are Bron and Andy, with Mo and West having outside shots at reaching the level of the other guys at some point. That said, the backcourt would probably be an ideal target for Ferry if he's thinking pure defense.
II: Issue 2: Offense
Our backcourt is pretty loaded in terms of scoring potential. Mo, West, Boobie all can shoot the pill. Sasha has his spurts but he's mildly retarded so he doesn't count. If we could get a significant upgrade at SG/SF, I wouldn't hate it. But outside of Z, our frontcourt is scary in terms of lack of production from the scoring end. Andy improved his mid range jumper last season before he got hurt. If he can revert back to his old form before his injury, his value would significantly increase.
To me, our backcourt needs another scorer. Hickson is too raw to be counted on, Wallace couldn't score with a $4 dollar hooker, Andy is weird, and Z's conditioning (see age) worries me. Lorenzen Wright + scoring = not awesome.
In summation, we could very well use another perimeter defender but we also need to add another inside scorer. Bron can play any position, sans cinco.
If it were up to me, I would either go after a PF/C who can score or hedge my bets and grab the BPA.
Some names that come to mind that fit either criteria:
1. AK47 (hate his contract but he fits every component: can score, can play D, and can play perimeter D and inside D)
2. Zach Randolph. He can score. He can play some D. I still hate this cocksucker.
3. Eddie Curry + one of NY's shit contracts (Preferably James Jones). I have made my case for Curry a few times. I know most think he sucks. I think he's just been placed in one bad situation after another.
4. Troy Murphy + Filler. Modest mans Z. Does everything well, nothing spectacular.
5. Michael Redd trade that "sports" guy proposed.
Your thoughts? Sorry for the long thread.
