I'm curious as to who you guys' want in exchange. What position do you think we need to bolster most and what player do you think would fit best with our team?

To me, it's a 2-pronged issue:

I: Issue 1. Defense

A. MB preaches D. If we break down our backcourt, our defense is not great. Mo is a work in process, although he shows flashes of having the ability to play the style Brown loves. West is tenacious but can be overly aggressive at times. By no means is he a shut down perimeter player, but is our best defensive guard. Boobie is intriguing, in that he came into the league known for playing good defense but has been anything but good on that side of the ball. He appears to have the makeup of a quick guard who can fill the lanes/holes on a dime. Unfortunately, he doesn't. Sasha is pretty decent but heck, Sasha can suck it. He's the definition of enigma.

B. Our frontcourt is stout. LBJ should earn his first All Defensive team status. Z is stout, but for about 20-25 minutes. Ben Wallace still has it when his back isn't bothering him. Andy is Andy. Lorenzen Wright barely > Allen Henderson. Hickson and Jackson are rookies and will make rookie mistakes.

Our best defensive players, imo, are Bron and Andy, with Mo and West having outside shots at reaching the level of the other guys at some point. That said, the backcourt would probably be an ideal target for Ferry if he's thinking pure defense.

II: Issue 2: Offense
Our backcourt is pretty loaded in terms of scoring potential. Mo, West, Boobie all can shoot the pill. Sasha has his spurts but he's mildly retarded so he doesn't count. If we could get a significant upgrade at SG/SF, I wouldn't hate it. But outside of Z, our frontcourt is scary in terms of lack of production from the scoring end. Andy improved his mid range jumper last season before he got hurt. If he can revert back to his old form before his injury, his value would significantly increase.

To me, our backcourt needs another scorer. Hickson is too raw to be counted on, Wallace couldn't score with a $4 dollar hooker, Andy is weird, and Z's conditioning (see age) worries me. Lorenzen Wright + scoring = not awesome.

In summation, we could very well use another perimeter defender but we also need to add another inside scorer. Bron can play any position, sans cinco.

If it were up to me, I would either go after a PF/C who can score or hedge my bets and grab the BPA.

Some names that come to mind that fit either criteria:
1. AK47 (hate his contract but he fits every component: can score, can play D, and can play perimeter D and inside D)
2. Zach Randolph. He can score. He can play some D. I still hate this cocksucker.
3. Eddie Curry + one of NY's shit contracts (Preferably James Jones). I have made my case for Curry a few times. I know most think he sucks. I think he's just been placed in one bad situation after another.
4. Troy Murphy + Filler. Modest mans Z. Does everything well, nothing spectacular.
5. Michael Redd trade that "sports" guy proposed.

Your thoughts? Sorry for the long thread.

IMO we'll see as the season progresses on which position we need more help in....but i see us needing help in the front-court with some low-posting

i really don't see anyone but zach realisticly & that is hard to consider since he has a 3-yr contract

Nonsense. Long threads are usually the best threads.

I think that the answer to this question will become clearer as the season goes along. If our small backcourt is getting pummeled defensively and Sasha isn't the answer, then we might go after a legitimate defensive player at the position. I've heard John Salmons' name thrown around. Not a bad idea. We'll see.

If we sustain any major injury to the frontcourt we will obviously go after a big. At that point, the only question becomes who.

It all depends what's on the market. I expect the best value to be at SG, but there are other factors as well. For the right person, a long-term contract well beyond 2010 would be worth taking on - but if there are some question marks - a shorter term contract that leaves us with our 2010 flexibility is attractive.

Listen man Zach Randolph aint happenin. The only people that would mention him are Knick fans.

Hes talented yeah and would be an OK fit offensively if we wanted a selfish player. And thats just his basketball flaws.

Reasons we wont get him:

1) His contract sucks. FIne you might want Randolph but would anyone rather have Randolph now and remove any chance of a big time guy in 2010?

2) He an evil mutha****a and I heard he eats children.

3) We got alotta soft character gus that would hate him. Like Z for example.

4) Black hole on offense.

5) Sucks on D

Basically theres a thing called makin a trade for the sake of makin a trade, and gettin Zach Randolph would be beyond that. Theres just no reason to do it except destroy the team.

I would focus on Mike Redd, Vince, Gerald Wallace, Mike Miller, John Salmons, Kirilenko, Sheed...

Right. Because Z and Sheed would be good buddies.

well i would like either redd or vc for Sg but who are out there for the bigs???

i understand what you & the rest mean about Zach but who else it out there that is tough & can put up stats down-low??? this is another tough year for ferry!

we may have to settle for an expiring this year & just have to re-sign him?

sheed is not coming here, kirilenko isn't exactly who we are looking for...

Who knows who'll become available, but it seems like everyone is looking for that Gasol-like type of deal where we land a 17-20 points 10 rebounds type of PF... The Cavs don't necessarily need that type of guy... Sure, it would be nice, but I don't think that is a requirement for the Cavaliers success this year...

I would be content with landing a 8-10 pts and 8-10 rebounds type of guy like Haslem....

Ak47 or Curry.

Especially if Curry also brings with him David Lee and a draft pick.

Even though it is HIGHLY unprobable, i would like to see us snatch Dirk Nowitzki from Dallas.

He is my #2 favorite player, and definitely deserves a championship.
Well anything is possible so we'll see if this ever happens.

eddy curry? really we aren't that despeate. theis guy can't do anything all he is a big body who takes up space. Ben is a better player than him

I would kind of like to see us maybe pry a 1st round pick from someone. maybe ak47 and there 1st rounder for wally. Expiring contracts are like gold to owners.

I'm rooting for a massive implosion in Toronto....and then Bosh demands a trade out of Canadia to Cleveland.
