'14 RCF Mock Draft: RD 3 Detroit Lions (mofire)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: '14 RCF Mock Draft: RD 3 Oakland Raiders (JMcCurry08)

With the 72nd pick of the draft, the Minnesota Vikings select:

Deone Bucannon S Washington St.

The defensive overhaul continues for the Vikings after the Jaguars ruin everything and double-dip on QBs. Bucannon has been linked to the Vikings for a while, as he participated in their annual "Top 30" event in Minneapolis. A big, long, athletic, and physical safety who likes to play downhill, he will fit in seamlessly next to rising star FS Harrison Smith. A defensive backfield that came into the off-season lacking a lot of young and gifted players with upside now has Smith, Bucannon, Xavier Rhodes, Captain Munnerlyn, Josh Robinson, and Keith McGill to grow and help stop the likes of Green Bay, Chicago, and Detroit from throwing all over the field on the Purple People Eaters.

Please remember to PM the person picking next. At this point, people aren't checking regularly, so they'll need to get a reminder.

Been slacking on the thread title changes as well. Will get back on that as often as I can.

With the 73rd pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills select:

Gabe Jackson, OG, Mississippi State

The Bills struggled mightily to replace Andy Levitre last year and despite signing former bust Chris Williams to a long-term deal, I view him more as a swing lineman than as a legitimate starter. Gabe Jackson is a strong, tough monster of a guard with a huge wingspan and surprisingly quick feet. While his game has some flaws related to consistency, they can easily be corrected and if they are, Jackson could end up being an absolute force. With the additions of Greg Robinson and Gabe Jackson, the Bills now have one of the best top-to-bottom young lines in the NFL and should have no trouble protecting EJ Manuel while allowing C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson to run wild.

The Giants are now on the clock.

Re: '14 RCF Mock Draft: RD 3 New York Giants (Plaxicofan7)

With the 74th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the New York Giants select Weston Richburg, C, Colorado State

Might as well keep helping Eli out with protection if guys like Richburg keep falling to me. My #1 ranked Center in the 2014 draft, Richburg is a very good all-around center who can start right out of the gate, if necessary. The theme of the Giants' draft is to keep Eli upright and have him make good decisions - because when that happens, the Giants are a dangerous team. With the #1 ranked center and the #2 ranked tackle headed to Big Blue, the entire New York Giants offense will prosper from the selections.

Be Nimble is once again on the clock

With the 75th pick, the St. Louis Rams select Telvin Smith, OLB Florida State

Didn't see much value going with a huge need in CB/S here so I went with upside. Smith has a ton of potential and the ability to fly all over the field. The only thing holding him back from being a higher pick is his size.

Strengths
Fiery on-field emotional leader. Plays with passion and it shows -- beelines to the ball and brings energy to the defense. Very good eyes, anticipation and instincts -- sniffs out screens, takes good cut-off angles and negotiates through traffic easily. Plays downhill and often arrives behind the line of scrimmage before ball carriers see him. Outstanding functional football-playing speed. Fluid mover. Outstanding closing speed to the ball. Reliable open-field tackler -- runs through contact. Good coverage skill -- shadows receivers and has a feel for zones. Very likeable, gregarious personality that can unite a locker room and command the LB group. Has been very durable (despite lack of thickness). Has learned what it means to work, and football comes easy to him.

Weaknesses
Despite contributing immediately in college, has been only a one-year full-time starter. Wiry and needs to add bulk to his narrow frame to withstand the rigors of NFL contact -- is almost built like a free safety. Is not a strong, drive-through tackler -- tends to go low. Average hand use and play strength. Could struggle matching up with bigger, more physical tight ends.

40 posts ago... (#211) and post #1 in the thread... It's CornerThree to make it easy.

I checked out. Give the skins a DT or DE and keep this going. Right now it's way too deep for me

Just so you know there is basically no information in post #1, and it's kind of inconvenient to have to hunt through the thread.

Anyways, with the 80th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft the New York Jets select

Marcus Roberson, CB, Florida

Strengths
Good size and nice body length. Transitions efficiently and shows nice plant-and-drive quickness. Flashes ball skills to break up plays. Has punt-return experience -- can elude the first tackler and gain what’s blocked.

Weaknesses
Needs to bulk up and get functionally stronger. Struggles with bigger, stronger receivers. Lacks elite top-end speed to keep pace with burners. Anticipation and route recognition are lacking. Susceptible to double moves. Tends to clutch and grab when he’s beat. Inconsistent ball reactions. Poor tackler. Recorded just 34 tackles the last two seasons. Started 18 of 30 career games. Durability has been an issue -- missed three games in 2011 (neck) and '13 (knee). Was suspended two games as a junior.

Bottom Line
Lean, athletic, finesse cornerback who did not elevate his game in 2013 when injuries, suspension and inconsistency marred his junior season. Is best deployed in off-man or zone and could develop into a No. 2 or No. 3 corner if he regains his sophomore form, though he lacks desirable instincts and tackling ability.
