15th Roster Spot?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Every potential PG people keep bringing up are playing worse than Delly this year and are nothing but names now...Jameer Nelson? 36.6% from the floor, 33.9% from 3, has been awful on defense this year, and has been battling injuries lately. Jordan Farmar? 38.6% from the floor, 36.1% from 3, and another guy who has been terrible vs opposing PGs defensively this year. Luckily he just signed overseas so we won't have to deal with that. Nate Robinson? 34.8% from the floor, 26.1% from 3, coming off of a major knee injury. Only PG mentioned I would take over Delly is Mo.

Grass is always greener...

Hate this logic. Just because their %s are lower doesn't mean delladova is shooting better. Give any of these guys the same shots Dells been getting and they'd all be hitting at atleast a 50% clip. Delladova is honestly one of the worst shooters/offensive players in the league and you can't convince me otherwise posting stats of his 3 3's he shoots a game with no one within 10 feet of him

Can Shumpert effectively play PG?

If he can, Allen should be helpful.

No, he'd be a turnover machine as a primary ballhandler. We absolutely need a backup PG and big man, so it would be hard to find a spot for Allen too.

I'd only sign Ray Allen if LeBron doesn't whine about us cutting James Jones.

That other roster spot needs to be for a big.

I do, however, think JR could play the point when needed.

In the postseason, I don't think there will ever be a time where both Kyrie and LeBron are sitting. Heck, does that ever happen now?

You can easily list Shumpert as the '1' with LeBron out there. In that situation, I'm assuming Shumpert and Smith are the backcourt. Definitely feasible.

Tbh, I think he can still help us.

Marion, Miller, Jones will (probably) all be useless come playoff time.
That makes our wing rotation very thin again.

With Allen, we could play him at the 2 with JR and have Shump as LBJ's back up.

Of course there are some questionmarks surrounding Allen's curent game shape - would he even crack the roation?
But if he indeed has something left in the tank, I would think twice about passing on him.

Whatever happened to Dalembert? Did no one really sign the guy at all?

As a 4th big you can do alot worse. Seems crazy no one would offer him a vet min deal.

Unless he is trying to hold out expecting someone with cap room or a larger exception to offer more at the deadline if they strike out on other options.

Mo Williams posted a photo of him wearing LeBron 12s. He's a lock :chuckle:

Maybe I'm overreacting, but I really, really don't want Ray Allen coming in here with the idea that he is going to be finishing games. I don't want another guy that can't guard anybody and only shoots threes. And it isn't like he's going to come in and shoot 47% on threes or something. He's going to come in and shoot about 38%, which is nice, but when you can't do anything else, why bother?
This team turned its fortunes around when it started to defend, I'm not interested in bringing in a guy that is going to make this team defend worse.
What does he do in a game against Atlanta coming down the stretch? Lose Korver around screens? Let Teague into the lane? Get overpowered by DeMarre Carroll?

Fuck Ray Allen.

I mentioned in this thread that a reason for holding on to Haywood and his contract till this summer is as a hedge against Love leaving -- they could potentially use the contract to trade for someone to replace Love.

Now, personally, despite LeBron's tweet and everything else, my guess is Love does return next year. If he really wants to win, it's hard to imagine a better situation than Cleveland.

However, the Cavs have, in addition of course to LeBron, two other potential free agents on the roster who are among the top 7 in their rotation in JR Smith (who has a player option) and Shumpert (who is an RFA).

I'm hoping that the decreased offensive role Shump has in Cleveland, plus his injury history, will deter would-be suitors from making him a huge offer, and that the Cavs will be able to bring him back at either his QO of $3.7M or on a reasonable multi-year deal.

With Smith, I had said immediately after the trade that it was possible he would not exercise the player option and would become a free agent. The assumption at the time was he would be opting in, based on his erratic play and injury issues in New York this year. Well, now that he is playing well, it seems free agency is a real possibility, if not a likelihood.

Given his offensive numbers, I don't think it would be surprising if he were made a lucrative offer by another team, and the Cavs would risk losing him without getting anything back.

This would create a fairly big problem for them, since their ability to replace Smith's minutes (and shooting) in the rotation would be fairly limited. They would have the taxpayers MLE, the biannual exception, and of course minimum salaries.

But if they keep Haywood, they could potentially turn his contract into a viable rotation player or two.

Of course, the very idea that Haywood's contract has enough value to justify the Cavs' holding on to it remains untested and uncertain. I mean, the idea sounds good, but it may not work the way we or the Cavs are hoping.

This argument also, of course, applies to Tristan, who like Shump will be an RFA, but I would be very surprised if he's not back.
