15th Roster Spot?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think Tristan will continue to be the third big and backup for both the 4 and 5. People just want to get Dalembert in case there is an injury to one of the top 3 guys, someone gets in foul trouble, and basically so Haywood is never allowed to play.
Am I the only one that thinks Haywood hasn't been that bad in those rare occasions he's seen the court?

Haywood fills the role of 4th big at this point. Dalembert is better than him, but not so much better that we should used our roster spot for him.

This team needs a tight 8 man rotation come playoff time, because barring injuries and situational matchups, those will be only players playing. I think we all agree Lebron, Love, Kyrie, Thompson and most likely Marion are locks for playoff minutes. Mozgov and hopefully Shumpert are in that mix. I think the only thing missing from that rotation is offense on the wing. We have Miller, Smith, Jones and Harris to choose from, but Allen would probably be the best option. As nice as it would be to have one more insurance big man, I don't think Dalembert would play any meaningful playoff basketball and I'm not optimistic that O'neal will come here.

You liked that ball he threw 10 feet over his intended target's head last game?

In all seriousness though, with how dire our situation has been if Blatt isn't playing him then he must be pretty bad.

I said something along those lines in the game thread. Haywood proceeded to botch about 5 possessions in a row on both ends.

thats what im saying. I think Haywood has looked good (for what he is) but if Blatt wont play him then there must be a reason

At some point, i think we'll add Ray Allen. Actually i already shopped a photo to Allen the Dagger Thrower. It's waiting for us to sign him

I remember Fred saying he watched Haywood in practice and he could only practice left handed hook shots. He couldn't do right-handed hook shots because he couldn't plant on his broken foot. This comment was made after he made a right-handed hook in a game.

As long as we don't bring back Cherry. It would be great if another Livingston type of waiver happened. Not saying him, just the situation.

They are likely not using Haywood in order to protect the trade asset from re-breaking his foot.

No, they are likely not using Haywood because he's not good enough to play right now. They don't care about his health. If and when the Cavs trade him, Haywood will be waived by the team that acquires him.

One thing to keep in mind is the Cavs now have 14 guaranteed contracts, so if they do add a guy at this time (unless it is on a 10 day contract) you are sort of committing to him. You can of course always waive a guaranteed contract, but when you are in the luxury tax, that hurts. So if they don't sign Dalembert, that probably means they don't want that to limit their options down the road and that they think a better option will become available.

I don't understand why people would complain that the options are limited. Two legitimate NBA centers in O'Neal and Dalembert are currently available. Both played major minutes on playoff teams last year. Sort of rare for that to be the case in January. For that matter, Miami unearthed Hassan Whiteside recently and he has played very well (small sample and all that). A young, unproven big that has been mentioned on RCF who has played extremely well in the D-League is Khem Birch. I'm very confident the Cavs have no interest in a guy like that though.
