Re: 2012-2013 Indians Offseason Thread (Mark Reynolds signed, Francona hired)

Ill spend the 1-2 to spare us Mike Aviles as what basically amounts to the DH.

If you get Hafner, he'll play in less than 90 games, so you'll being seeing a lot of Aviles anyway. Time to move on from that train wreck.

Trying to remember, have Hafners recent injuries come from attempts at platooning on first or have they happened while batting or baserunning. If it's the former, I don't have a problem with him being an exclusive DH, playing about 60% of the games and Pinch hitting in the others.

He hasn't played first base in god knows how long...

I honestly can't remember the last time I've seen him play first base. Seems like it's all just his body breaking down... no thanks to bringing him back, unless it's as a DH platoon and as a pinch hitter, as has been said. Honestly, I'd STILL rather take a flyer on the guy who hasn't played in two years - at least Grady has value as a base runner or defensive replacement when healthy. At the very least, he could be a super sub and provide base running and outfield depth.

Fuck it, sign them both to small contracts and sign an MORS or a BORS and call it a day. Honestly, if only this team could stay healthy they would have an outside shot at the last wild card spot, if a lot of things went right (Reynolds/Swisher produce, Chis/Kipnis blossom, Masterson bounces back, some of our young pitching talent produces, etc.)

A lot of things need to go right for this team to even sniff October, and I know the chances are slim to none, but I'm at least excited to watch them take a 10 game lead in the Central while everyone else sucks in the first 2 months of the season. Sure, they'll piss it away over the next 4 months and become a .500 ball club, but at least those first couple of months would be fun. Maybe one of those young SS prospects you guys told me about will have a breakout year in the minors this year, and the Tribe will flip ACab for something nice.

Are we really talking about getting Hafner back? Aviles would do just fine and would give Asdrubal days off to DH plus Marson and Santana on first also Reynolds Could DH also. So yeah we have options so no to Hafner! we are trying to move forward not backwards. I will miss him and wish him well though.

Played in less than 90 games just twice in his career.

For peanuts, he's easily going to be better than Aviles' bat, and the alternative spot on the roster is Chris McGuinnes, Mike McDade or some other replacement bat.

Easy decision, IMO.

With the lack of activity on Marcum and Lohse, I would love either of them.

I think the Indians will sign Hafner after they're done signing everyone else <strike>so people don't bitch about it</strike> so not as many people bitch about it.

No Chief Wahoo, no buy. People want to protest the Chief Wahoo? I'm going to protest the block letter C.
