2012 Cavs Summer League

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Trade Dion already. I'd rather have Norris Coles! Everyone should know by now that summer league is where you make your mark in the NBA!

Yup. Zeller looks like our #4 pick and Dion doesn't even impress me if we took him at #17 or lower...

Yeah since they're running so many offensive sets......not. Dion's been turning it up when he wants to and still getting his shots anywhere he wants. I also think you're failing to realize what Summer League is about. It's not a showcase for the rookies; it's an opportunity for young veterans to get some developmental minutes that they didn't get during the regular season and allow some of the "fringe" NBAer's an opportunity to showcase their game in front of NBA personnel. Allowing Dion to take 20 shots and dominate the ball would kinda defeat the purpose of summer league. It's also clear the Cavs don't give a shit about these games; they're barely running any plays and confusion and indecisiveness ensues. I'm sure the Cavs are more concerned about leaving Vegas with a healthy roster than anything else. Sucks Kyrie got hurt but he was only going to play one game anyways. I'd bet TT has been shutdown too.

Waters did finally "pop" a little at the end of the game. Extremely frustrating to see him throwing the ball around the perimeter with Sloan. Caught a couple of glimpses however of what the CAVS saw. Hope we see more of that. Zeller looks like a 12-15 year starter in the association with possibilty of being a 20/10 guy. I think we can see after 2 games that drafting him 17 was a misdraft. If he is not a top 10 pick I dont know what one is. Guess the only reason he went low was he was a senior. Comparing him to Drummond is a joke.

I think Dion might have been asked to play more like facilitator instead of a scorer since KI is not playing in the SL

I like Zeller, what a suprise too because I thought his limitations were gonna be a problem but now I can see he has legimitimate basketball talent.

Still don't know what to make of Dion.

Zeller is skilled and surprisingly agile. He could probably play PF when we get Bynum. :D

The game is being replayed on NBATV as we speak. It is almost halftime.

So far, I have absolutely no concerns about Waiters. At the start of the game, he made a beautiful drive to the basket that ended in a scoop finish which had to be amongst the plays of the night in Summer League. Other than that and a few other sporadic shots here and there along with one miss in transition, he has been almost completely a facilitator not even looking for his own shot. I'm pretty sure that he is capable of playing an entirely different kind of game if called upon to do so (no reason for it on this stage) and certainly will be totally different playing off of Kyrie and our other starters.

Zeller has, once again, looked absolutely great. I see very few weaknesses in his game.

Waiters is not in great basketball shape. We won't see what the Cavs truly have until the preseason. Looks like he enjoyed the time after the draft a little too much.

Yeah. He has the body type that may result in a constant effort needed to stay in game shape. It is pretty clear that he isn't anywhere close to where he needs to be with his conditioning. I'm not going to kill him for it, because he hasn't even started training camp yet. This is really the first couple of weeks of contact he has had with the team.

I'm sure the fact that his agent advised him not to work out for any teams prior to the draft is playing a part in his poor conditioning. Guys relying on impressing teams in workouts to improve draft stock almost automatically mandated that they be in good shape.

Meanwhile, Dion got to sit back and dip into the Krispy Kremes with no negative repercussions.

It's nice know we have two guards that can get to the hole at will, with good handles and a nice touch. The only thing I find a little odd so far, is his lack of drawing fouls. I would think with his style he'd be racking up 6-10 a game, at least.

I think that's part of the reason he stopped driving. He's been complaining about getting absolutely no calls. Due to frustration, he's doing a lot of settling for jumpshots because he's still expected to be scoring.

I wish we had 27 year old Zydrunas to play next to Zeller.

I agree with the guys taking the "it's only summer league" attitude. Admittedly, I only watched the Bobcats game, but have you guys seen Scott during these games? His attitude alone should tell you there's not much riding on these games. Summer league is more important to the DJ Kennedy's and Michael Eric's of the world than it is Dion Waiters.
