2012 NFL Draft Rumor Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Braylon needed to go, definitely. I think Mangini jumped the gun trading Winslow though. He is a dumbass, but the man played his ass off. Eventually the Browns need to add some attutude on this team. Adding guys like Taylor, Sheard, and Little was a start. But the Browns have been soft as it gets since coming back in 99. Not saying we need to start signing thugs, but lets gets some friggin attitude on this. Someone like Burfict would be great. Get a player on this team that wants to hurt someone.

I agree we need more attitude on the team. Burfict has the edge but the knock on him is he's an idiot. If he can't learn or control his rage, he's more harm than good.

Yea he is definitely a knucklehead. But we need some players on the defense that are going to make the opposing team think twice about doing something. Hopefully Ward comes back into form to help out in that department.

Attitudes are fine as long as they are managed. You can't always have choir boys. Edwards and Winslow got hurt and became less effective yet continued to be idiots. Great players have an edge to them. Some say it's cockiness and some call it attitude, but the great ones know when to turn it on and when to turn it off.

I don't mind attitude. What drives me crazy is when guys take plays off. It's why I love Rubin and don't love Phil Taylor: the former goes all-out every play, the latter, well... doesn't.

I really, really, really hate the idea of Richardson at 4. I know he's drawn some comparisons to Peterson but I just don't see it. That's why I really want RG3, I love the guy's talent and potential but I'm also not really a fan of any of the other guys we can get at 4. I don't want Blackmon there, don't think we need to take another corner that high, we don't need a LT. Honestly, if we don't get RG3 I'd like to trade down a few picks again. Not dropping as far as we did last year, but maybe into the early teens.

I'd be okay with getting Richardson around pick 9-10, just seems like a waste to get him that high.

#4 sucks for the Browns in this draft. The talent available just doesn't match our need. When you consider how much we need, that's very unfortunate. It's part of the reason I'm in the go-all-in-on-Griffin camp. If we stayed at 4 though, I'd probably have to say Richardson as well. Even though It's too high to take a RB, he's the type of back who can help define our offense. The WR crop isn't good, and we need a play maker on offense. Having the 22nd pick is a huge bit of insurance for us in the draft too, because if we don't move up, we should be able to solidly fill a minimum of 3 positions in this draft.

Maybe a Richardson/Wright/Minnifield/Weeden combo through the first 3 rounds, and see if Weeden can get the job done. His age may cause him to drop further than his talent would normally allow, and if we are going to get a risk at QB, might as well take a risk in the 3rd round.

Honestly one guy I really hope the Browns find a way to snag is Minnifield. It's not just because of his name either, after Claiborne I think he has the potential to be the second best corner in this draft. I'm really high on the guy and he could be a steal unless he rockets up draft boards.

Isn't he more of a zone corner though? I actually like him also, but would he fit in Jauron's defense?

We cannot blow the #4 on a RB, or spend any pick on a 29yo QB. Having the #4 is not a burden, it has value, and you don't have to stay there.

If Griffin is gone and so is Claiborne, the guy i have my eye on is Kuechly. We dont really know whether Jackson will play another season like he did. Either than that, I'll select a DE.

I like Richardson and all but there are some good RB sleepers.

if griffin is gone, and clairborne is gone, it makes it really damn easy to trade the pick to anyone that wants kahil which would be about 20 teams in the league. or the browns could take kahil and make him a RT (which im 50/50 on).

there are 4 top players in this draft between luck, griffin, kahil, claiborne. i think its VERY important for everyone to keep in mind even if someone jumps up to 2 or 3 to select griffin the browns will still end up with a very good player. its one of the prime reasons i dont think the browns should offer up anything more than a mid round pick to the rams or vikings to move up. because ultimately the vikings nor rams really want a lose out on a top 4 player, and the browns know they really dont have to move up to select griffin. so i really think the draft goes something like the following. the colts take luck, the rams take kahil, the browns trade up to 3 for a 3rd round pick and take griffin, and the vikings take claiborne. everyone ends up happy, and the browns dont sacrifice a high draft pick

I am chilled out. Someone said Shurmur was still calling plays. My response is why does it matter who calls plays?

...I never said it did matter who called plays.

Somebody said "Shurmer isn't the Offensive Coordinator anymore, Childress is", implying there would be a change in playcalling and/or philosophy.

I pointed out Shurmer was still calling the plays.

That's it.

I missed out the trading down part but yes, that was my train of thought.

If we miss out on Griffin, trading down for next year's first would be amazing. Next year's QB class is pretty amazing.

Here's an overview from http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1272264/chase-minnifield
Man Coverage: Well versed in press and off-man coverage. Generally gets an effective punch on the receiver at the line of scrimmage, staying square and riding him throughout the first few yards to throw off the timing with the quarterback. Resorts to a bail technique quickly, as he doesn't have elite top-end speed, making him susceptible to big plays over the top when he misses with his jam (USC). A bit high in his back pedal. Appears to have the loose hips to turn and change directions.

Zone Coverage: Alert defender for zone concepts. Understands the holes in the zone and keeps his head on a swivel. Is quick to jump from his responsibility towards the football once it is thrown, putting him in position to make plays. Strong, secure open field tackler.

Ball Skills: Competitive corner who times his leaps well in jump-ball situations. Long arms and good hand-eye coordination to slap away the ball just as it arrives. Possesses good hands for the interception, typically turning passes in which he has a reasonable chance at making a play into turnovers. Saw time as Virginia's punt returner. Possesses lateral agility to elude and quick acceleration when on the return, though his straight-line speed is questionable.

Run Support: Quality run-support cornerback whose physicality and instincts might cause some teams to view him as a potential safety convert. Quickly reads run, slipping past receivers and attacking the line of scrimmage. Not afraid to mix it up with the big boys at the point of attack. Good effort laterally and in pursuit downfield.

Tackling: One of his better traits. Breaks down well when in the open field against elusive athletes. Closes on the ball-carrier in a hurry, making a clean, sure tackle. Technically sound tackler who lowers his shoulder into the ball-carrier with good hit-lift-drive form.

Intangibles: Good bloodlines. Father is a former Pro Bowl cornerback Frank Minnifield, who played for the Cleveland Browns from 1984-1992. Versatile player who played a variety of roles at Henry Clay HS. Served as a wide receiver, running back, cornerback, quarterback, kickoff returner, kicker, and punter.

--Rob Rang

Probably his 2 biggest concerns are his speed and he takes big risks going for the big play.

Personally, I'd take him at 22 if he performs well at all workouts. And yes, his bloodlines are being taken into account.
