2013 NFL Draft thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Was mostly in jest, but it's not monumentally out of line to question the direction of the Browns front office. Especially given the history of Mike Lombardi and Joe Banner, to say nothing of an owner mired in fraud allegations.

I'm really hopeful, but not entirely optimistic.

Nobody's saying it's out of line for you to question the direction they're going...

But to question whether or not they have a direction at all, is a little ridiculous.

Is it?

We all admit we don't necessarily know who is making the final decisions. There are a multitude of voices being heard in that room tonight and I'm hopeful they come out speaking with one coherent voice.

I'm not saying this is the case, they certainly could all be on the same page. But just not sure we have seen enough to know for sure. Only time will tell.

It was stated bluntly that they go by the consensus opinion. I guess there is a chance that someone's voice will endure, but there shouldn't be much guessing. I'd say they are pretty candid :)chuckles:) about what their process is when it comes to making choices.

Would not mind trading back with San Fran.

That's A LOT of picks, and a lot of holes that we would get to fill in.

31 and 34 this year, 32 and 10-15 next year?

Is better than 6 this year and 10-15 next year. It's the Patriots way of navigating the draft. Love it.

Directions may also be less defined than they were a couple weeks ago with some uncertainty surrounding the ownership of the team. Lombardi and Banner may have felt comfortable picking up future assets previously but now may be hesitant to acquire picks they may not be around to make if it turns out to be a worst case scenario for Haslam and a new ownership group is brought in.

Whether or not Haslam can still own the team is so far into the future right now. They won't change the gameplan for the draft due to something they won't know until a long while into the process.

Just remember everyone: our GM is the guy that said Joe Haden and Josh Gordon were terrible picks and that Jimmy Clausen was a top prospect.

For the #6 pick this year, we will take 31, 34 and next year's 32? wonderful. All this to draft a QB that has all the tools but makes bad decisions 1 year after we drafted a QB in the 1st round that has all the tools but has made bad decisions.

I really hate to say this because I'm generally an optimist, if they do this, it's the same old Browns just different people shuffled in.

It's the Browns. You can almost never expect something good to come out of the draft. It's not being pessimistic, it's being a realist.

And he thinks a 10 cent jug head like Mallett is great. I rather draft a QB with every pick we have this draft, than to trade for that brain fart

Per Walterfootball's draft pick value chart:
#6-1600 points

#31-600
#34-560
(#63-276; I didn't include it in the total, but I added it for shits n giggles)
#32 next year-590
1750 points

San Fran would really have to love Milliner or Austin, or maybe even Jordan, to not have a pick until the end of the 2nd round the next two years.

The EJ trade down stuff is starting to make sense-trade down only lol.

I love the vetting/unvetting of 'insider' sources of the OBR. The Enterprise dude has been pretty solid with info the past few months, but it seems like he is trying to become somewhat of a personality nowadays. Regardless, I haven't seen too many major inaccuracies with his tweets/posts.

The Oakland talks were exploratory in nature, and doesn't really make sense either way. Raiders probably would want to recoup a 2nd round pick, since they don't have one; and we can't offer a 2nd.

ATI mentioned these guys are no longer in the conversation at #6, but are still in the mix on a trade down: Star, Chance, Cooper, Geno/EJ, Cordarrelle, Austin. These guys are VERY much in the mix at #6: Jordan, Mingo, Floyd, and perhaps Eifert.

I am going to take a self-imposed absence from social media/NFLN until right before the draft tonight, because my head is going to fucking explode.

Assuming that is true, why the shit didn't we take that? If we didn't like this years draft, i'm sure we could have gotten their next years 2nd.

Because they liked Mingo, obviously.

A 2nd and 7th is a pretty crappy offer for moving down 10 spots at the top of the first. I'd rather we take Mingo who we apparently liked a lot than take that crap offer so we can reach for EJ Manuel (because that's apparently what we were considering doing). This draft might've sucked but trading down doesn't change that.

The question is would the Browns FO rather have Jarvis Jones and a 2nd round pick (#46 overall) which could have netting someone like Jamar Taylor, Vance McDonald, DJ Swearinger or would they prefer just Mingo. Obviously, they thought Mingo alone was better than Jarvis Jones and Jamar Taylor. The threat was that New Orleans could have taken Jarvis Jones ahead of us in that scenario. They obviously didn't in hindsight but they certainly could have.

The Browns like Mingo. He's super athletic, smart and coachable. Plus, one point that is not being talked about, he would be the ideal OLB for when we play teams with mobile QBs. As Mingo said himself, his numbers were reduced at LSU because he was asked to contain the QB instead of attack. If the NFL starts moving more towards that RG3 style QB, Mingo is an ideal fit for any defense. If he's playing against statues like Dalton, Flacco and an aging Rothlisberger, he's going to be rushing full bore.
