2014-15 Off-Season Thread (Moss Acquired - Page 16)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Mets signed Michael Cuddyer to a 2-year deal, they'll give up their first round pick to the Rockies (15th overall).

We get our annual inexplicable Mets move early this season. Paying Cuddyer for two non-contending years instead of continuing to build through the draft is...bold.

So who is the Brett Myers of this FA class then?

Ryan Howard to KC sounds like it's heating up.

Filling their DH role vacated by Billy Butler.

The Mets are going to be terrible for the next few years. Who is running that organization? Needs to be fired asap.

Part of Hoynsie's column, regarding John Hart/Atlanta:

He has returned to wheeling and dealing, but first he had to get something straight. The Braves are not trading their entire roster. There have been multiple media reports that most of the roster is "in play,' including B.J. Upton, Justin Upton, Jason Heyward and Evan Gattis.

"We're not trading our entire team," said Hart. "This is the general managers meetings. We haven't even had any conversations with anybody. All of a sudden I'm trading my whole team."

...

"We're going in with the idea of finding some starting pitching," said Hart. "That's the hole on this team right now. We've lost close to 400 innings out of the rotation and we have a hole at the upper levels of our system. We don't have any young starting pitching ready for the big leagues."

The Indians do have starting pitching and Hart says he talked to them briefly.

"I've had really brief conversations with Chris (Antonetti)," said Hart. "They're looking for some pop in their lineup. They're not looking to move any of their young starting pitching.

"As we sit here today I don't know if there's a great fit there, but I think there's some mutual interest in certain players. It's just about whether you can make something like that work."

Sandy Alderson, the GM who built the As teams of the 80s and early 90s, is the GM. His team also includes former GMs Paul DePodesta and J.P. Ricciardi. A strange move to say the least.

It's good that having Tito around means they'll likely have a sound pitching staff.

On the other hand, this team is really lacking pop from a consistent bat.

Jose Ramirez and Jesus Aguilar for Marcell Ozuna.

Who says no?

CF - Bourn
SS - Lindor
LF - Brantley
1B - Santana
2B - Kipnis
RF - Ozuna
C - Gomes
DH - Swisher
3B - Chisenhall

Using Aguilar, Urshela or Ramirez to go after a starter is not a bad idea at all.

Cashner's shoulder is concerning, but if that checks out he's an All-Star caliber talent. Pair him with Mickey Callaway and you could have an incredible 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation. He's got two years of team control left, probably not going to cost an arm and a leg.

Of course, you could also have a guy who ends up on the DL.

Tyson Ross (3 seasons of team control) would be a nice add, as well. His home/road splits are concerning and moving to the AL Central does him no favors, but he's good good K/9 numbers and with Callaway helping to get his BB/9 down he could be another guy who takes off (still only 27)

They passed on the Jimenez contract already, they're not going to bump a young starter out of the rotation and deal their CF to take it on now.

I wonder if the Tribe would look for a deal that nets them either Ross or Cashner along with Carlos Quentin.

He is a guy who could rebound in the AL Central where he has some familiarity.
