2014 Cleveland Browns

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Shockingly, while he played with the Saints, he has a better career FG% in outdoors than indoors.

44/58 (76%) indoors
38/43 (88%) outdoors

Probably means nothing

To me, his media personality is unlikeable. I also don't like the way he plays, nor do I believe the way he played in college will translate into long term success in the NFL. Therefore, in order for him to be successful long term, IMO, he has to change his game. When he has well below average height and weight, an average arm and has not been asked to read defenses or run a fully developed playbook, I just don't know what he falls back on. Hence the reason, I don't like him.

I will say the kid is an absolute pro at talking to reporters. I agree about his play not translating, which is why I wanted nothing to do with him. He was really fun to watch in college, no doubt. But just couple the A&M rudimentary offense with his small size and I don't have high hopes.

How many QBs his size have had success? 2? 3? I can think of Tarkenton, Flutie, and Rusty Wilson. I'm actually not all that concerned about his height, there are ways around that. I'm concerned with him being broken in half by a lineman who weighs twice as much as him.

The athleticism is there for sure. Now we just need to see if he can mentally adapt his game to avoid being murdered in the pros. History really isn't on his side.

Vick and Garcia are also around the 6'0 mark that Manziel is listed at and both had relative success in the NFL.

And Flutie really wasn't that good, just fun to support.

Forgot about them. I know Flutie wasn't great, but he did have some NFL success.

Like I said before, I really don't care about his height. He moves well and will be able to see through his lineman in my opinion. I'm just concerned about his build. He never missed a game, but he does have a history of getting banged up.

Wilson is a little shorter, but he's built like a brick shit house. Wilson played in 2 pro style offenses that prepared him for the NFL game. Can Johnny adapt to a complex offense?

Also Johnny is guilty of one of my pet peeves. When he does his crazy scrambling he tends to just hold the ball in one hand. He's just asking for someone to strip it.

I hope I'm wrong and he has major success. This isn't the Browns of old, there's a lot of talent here. Consistent QB play can put this team in the playoffs (probably not this year). I don't doubt his physical ability, very gifted guy and can make all the throws. Major concerns are durability and whether or not he can read NFL defenses and run a difficult offense.

Don't force the ball to a pre-determined receiver, go through your progressions and make the right choice. I think he's going to see a lot of 3 or 4 man rushes as teams just try to keep him in the pocket.

Praying our running game is solid today so Johnny doesn't have to do too much in start number one.

They each had only 2 playoff wins and 4 losses in 12 seasons. :(

Week 15 PFF ratings:

Offense:

Defense:

Highlights:

Manziel with a game-worst -5.0 in just 45 snaps, that is an impressive level of suckitude.

Terrence West with a +0.6, Crowell +0.1. I think you'll see a heavy reliance on them next weekend, certainly more than the 12 combined carries they saw yesterday.

If Joel Bitonio isn't a Pro Bowler, I'd like to see who is.

Mingo with a -2.3 thanks in part to three missed tackles and a penalty. Makes big plays but needs to be more consistent, interested to see what he does if he can get healthy next season.

Pierre Desir played well in his first real action, as did Gilbert before leaving after a head injury. His horse collar penalty was bullshit, too.

If you can stand Triv, it's worth a listen. Bernie Kosar went on Triv's show and BLASTED the Browns Front Office.

I didn't agree with everything Bernie said, but the idea that a QB coach who was lucky to HAVE a job after last season pulling rank on all the other coaches/scouts/GM by going to the owner is indeed embarrassing. Really ruined the season when it was all said and done because it creates disunity from the front office down through the coaches down to the players. I've understood that to be the case since the draft, and it is a joke. There were a lot of good players available who could have helped in the end of the first round. Would Bridgewater or Carr have helped instead of Manziel? I personally thought so. But more importantly, they could have put off a QB for one year, maybe two... and actually get some decent playmakers out there for the QB of the future long term. Instead, we have this project... and a guy who can only roll out to his left and throw, a guy who jump throws 30 yards downfield, a guy who is the size of a kicker and thinks run-first when the pocket breaks down... that is one heck of a choice at QB of the future.

I can't stand Triv, so if someone can do a quick recap, that'd be great :chuckle:

Keys, so were they saying Loggains went to Haslam & convinced him to draft Manziel?

Keys, so were they saying Loggains went to Haslam & convinced him to draft Manziel?

BEREA, Ohio -- Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar said an "uneducated" front office is responsible for the debacle that took place in Sunday's loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

"They don't know how to lead and organize and set a culture for doing what you have to do to play winning NFL football," Kosar told WTAM 1100 in Cleveland, where he is a regular guest on the station's shows.

Kosar said too many people with the team are talking about too many things other than their jobs, which deflects attention from what needs to be done to have a team focused solely on winning.

"It makes me want to throw up," Kosar said. "That's the results you get when you do that stuff."

One example from Kosar: when quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains received a text from Johnny Manziel during the draft in May asking the Browns to draft him because he wanted to "wreck this league" in Cleveland. Loggains told an Arkansas radio station that he forwarded the message to owner Jimmy Haslam, general manager Ray Farmer and coach Mike Pettine. Manziel was drafted soon after.

"That's funny and a good story," Kosar said. "But that's not acceptable. That can't happen. ... If you're a quarterback coach, you're going to coach the guys we're going to get you."

Kosar also said in the week leading up to Manziel's first start that too many people not dealing with the quarterback position were discussing it. Kosar said he heard too much of people "giggling" and talking about being excited to see what Manziel would do, and too little about people focusing on their jobs.

He added that Manziel was in a tough spot with his first start and that created quarterback controversies "takes heat off [the front office] and gives people a glimmer of hope in the future."

He pointed out it has happened for 15 years, naming Browns quarterbacks since 1999 who went through the same grinder as Brian Hoyer and Manziel this year -- including Tim Couch, Brady Quinn and others.

"The issue is systemically, from a culture in Berea, they've got to get it together," he said. "I don't know anyone who can be consistently successful in winning within this culture and within this organization right now. You just can't play football like this.

"The names change, and the way we do this as a culture above them is the same."

He said he was not blaming players or Pettine, who was hired into this system. Instead he pointed to a system that created an environment that allows these things to happen.

"You can't put these kids in these spots," Kosar said. "It's almost abuse."

If the situation doesn't change, the on-field results will not change, he said.

"If you keep running it the way you're running it, you may as well do nothing," Kosar said. "Because you're going to kill two more kids coming in here. It will fail."

Kosar added that he has been answering quarterback questions for 15 years and will continue to answer them as long as the Browns' culture stays constant.

"I've had a headache for 15 years," he said. "And it's getting worse."

The Browns declined to comment on Kosar's remarks.

Shit.. I posted the same thing in the Johnny thread. Feel free to merge, if you'd like.

The article seems like Bernie knows more than he's saying on air. He's trying to send a message to someone. I don't know if it's Jimmy, Ray or Bill K., but there's clearly something amiss between he and the organization...

Wasn't Bernie a consultant for the Bears this year? :chuckle:

Bernie's had a headache for 15 years? Maybe he should lay off the sauce.
