2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Nobody is gonna overpay for Deng but im sure we have a solid offer on the table

Dude's realizing he waited too long to test FA seriously. He might as well take the 7-9 mil were probably offering him because I know its more than anyone else is probably offering. He just looks silly now

Seems most indications are that Deng and the Cavs aren't exactly looking to stay together. Don't know where you're getting a $7-$9 million offer from, even as an estimate, but with the LeBron race and Wiggins along with potentially Ariza for whatever reason, it seems that Deng's not even on the radar.

I dig Deng, but it just seemed like a weird fit, and I think both parties are on that train, too.

If, in fact, this is the case, then Miami is sunk in terms of materially upgrading that team. Even if Bosh and Wade took significant cuts in their contracts, LeBron's max in Miami is over $22 million. That's a $4 million dollar raise from last year for him, likely eating up all savings from Bosh plus some of Wade's savings.

They might entice a veteran or two on the wrong side of the career arc, but they aren't getting Deng or Lowry.

For the record, it is so annoying in day one of free agency and 99% of the NBA writers' twitter feeds are basically giving World Cup play by play...

I couldn't agree more.

He's less of a weird fit under Blatt than before, particularly if the LeBron dream fizzles (same with any other vet SF). Irving/Waiters/Wiggins/Deng could easily split the majority of the PG/SG/SF minutes in the backcourt and on the wings:

30 min - Irving
28 min - Waiters
28 min - Deng
28 min - Wiggins

Still leaves 30 minutes a game (under a traditional lineup) for Delly, Karasev, Harris and any other wing on the team over the course of a season.

The 1-2 year deal for Lebron is exactly what I was expecting/hoping he'd do. Gives the Cavs time to grow up a little bit and see if Wiggins/Bennett work out.

he wont do that. If he gets hurt his life as he knows it is over.

I'm pretty damn sure he's made so much money to this point he can forever live w/e type of life he wants to live.

I am sure the deal would be a 3-4 year contract with ETO. I have a hard time seeing a player of LJ not wanting a 4 year deal. The only smart thing, is if he takes the 2 year, he could still sign a 4 year deal after it.

Why? Hawes is a 26 year old center who knows how to pass the ball and can spread the floor at a position where that's hard to find, not to mention the fact that the only people competing for our center spot are Zeller and Varejao. Ariza is a 29 year old mediocre small forward who provides us with nothing we don't already have and takes away time from the players we are trying to develop.

Last I checked, there are two sides of the court in basketball. Ariza plays on both of them. Hawes does not. I'm not a huge Ariza fan, nor do I really see the point of signing him now that we drafted Wiggins, but I'd take him ten times out of ten over Hawes.

LeBron could retire today and still rake in more money in endorsements for the next year than most of us will make in our lives.

And unless he gets a leg amputated, he's basically coming back from any injury he might suffer. But I for one am not convinced he's human at this point, or perhaps he's taken so many PEDs that he's immune to serious physical harm anyway.

I wasn't a math major, but each of the Big 3 were making around 18 million this year. My understanding of the CBA is that the Heat would have to renounce them in order to cut their salary by more than 7.5%. If this is true and Bosh/Wade are taking those deals as listed, they would have to be renounced, meaning their max contract raise is 4.5% of the first year's base salary. That would mean Wade is getting 4/49.35 million and Bosh is getting 5/56.98 million. To get the max (along with the 7.5% maximum raise), LeBron can't be renounced.

Why in the hell would bosh agree to that contract when he can get a 15 to 17 million deal easy on the open market???? Thats just an insane amount of cash to leave on the table...hell, someone would probably offer him the max.

Don't know, I would think Bosh could get 4/74 on the open market.
