2014 Off-Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Andre would be a great get. One of the most productive receivers in the game over his career, and we've never heard a peep from him. Nice bonus with all these diva WRs in the league.

I hope they look into it.

Agreement with Boobie here.

Highest I'd go is 2nd rounder for Johnson. While I would love to have him, investing a 1st rounder would be too much.

2nd round pick may even be pushing it, honestly. Considering guys like Boldin and Stevie Johnson went for way cheaper than a 2nd, I'd say the market would be a 3rd-5th rounder.

A second rounder would be insane -- not just pushing it, no offense.

Gonna go ahead and say you're correct. Change the 2nd to a 3rd as the "highest" possible pick to acquire Johnson, and likely make an offer starting with a 5th, and go from there.

Yeah, a 3rd is the highest I'd go.

I think he's definitely worth a 3rd. Probably has a few very high production years left and that would be extremely valuable to an offense that has lacked weapons forever, like ours.

If something like that happened, the Gordon situation could almost be considered a blessing in disguise. If Gordon did only get 8 games, and he came back with Andre opposite him? Look the fuck out.

I mean, an offense of Tate, Gordon, Cameron, Johnson and Hawkins would be fucking silly. Especially if Manziel makes some plays.

But not going to hold my breath. I still think Miles Austin/Santonio Holmes + a Gordon smaller suspension is more likely than Andre Johnson + a medium sized Gordon suspension.

Depending on the outcome of the hearing for Jimmy Graham's official position (TE or WR), what would stop the Browns from making a Godfather offer for him? Especially with rumors of Cameron looking at the West Coast when he hits FA the year after next, and the Saints cap situation isnt great. Play em together for now, split Graham out wide a lot like the Saints do. A guy can dream right?

I'd take either of the star WRs mentioned above as well...

While I think the Lions trading Johnson rumors are insane, if I were Farmer, I'd still leak I'd be willing to trade 2 firsts for him. :chuckles:

I'm only mildly interested in Andre Johnson. That contract is ugly. Especially given his age. Who in their right mind wants to shell out that kind of cash to a 32 year old WR?

I'd say it would be a team that:

- Has tons of cap room and extra picks to trade
- Is in immediate need of a #1 receiver in the short term
- Needs a reliable veteran target for a young QB to lean on
- Wants an older, solid receiver to mentor a young receiver corps

Know anyone that fits that description?

In all seriousness, Johnson would be a perfect fit for our situations with Gordon, Johnny, etc. I just don't know that a) the Texans would trade him or b) that he'd want to come here. He's going to turn 33 before the season starts. I think part of the reason he wants out is that the Texans haven't done a thing to fix QB in the present and he doesn't need to be part of a rebuilding. He wants a stable winner (which we haven't been lately). It would take a pretty good sales job from Farmer/Pettine/Shanahan and Co. to get him to agree to come here.

Johnson is too much of a stop gap. the browns have too many needs to be giving up high picks for a guy nearing the end of his career,

Based off of Johnson's words it seems unlikely he'd be interested in re-working his deal to play for the Browns. See the following quote...

"Now I'm on my third head coach, that's something I give thought to," Johnson said. "I just look over my career, is it a place? I've only been to the playoffs twice. I think we've only had three winning seasons, two 8-8 seasons. I don't think any player wants to experience that.

That's how he feels about the Texans, a team that since their inception look like the Chuck Knoll era Steelers compared to the Browns.
