2015 Browns Mock Draft Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
ESPN's Nation Mock Draft had us taking Shelton at 12 and Erving at 19. One of the guys said Shelton at 12 was a reach because of how slow he ran at the combine.

What a brain dead statement to make about a nose tackle. Next we will be discussing how weak Amari Cooper would be throwing a receiver option pass.

Kiper. Well, he is more interested in his brand and the value on his board. A good nose tackle would make all the other Browns 2 gap and 3 gap players much better at end. Phil Taylor has looked more like a 4-3 defensive tackle rather than a true nose tackle so far, when he does actually play. I don't know if the Browns have a 5 tech end on the roster, which is a problem.

No, was not Mel Kiper...older than that.

He also said Shelton is basically a 1 to 1.5 down player. I can't think of his name, not Todd McShay - the older gentleman.

Bill Polian maybe?

In any event, I haven't heard Shelton is a 1 down player from any other pundits. Unless Cooper or White fall to us... Shelton is my favorite guy for the Browns at 12.

Yes - Bill Polian.

I just don't think Shelton will be there at 12...but we'll see.

Polian drafted 4-3 defenses in Indianapolis. He has a different value system for defensive linemen. It is true that nose tackles usually leave the field in the nickel package. Tech 5 defensive ends stay on the field in obvious passing downs. Still, the Browns are very good in pass defense. The problem is guys like Alfred Blue and other no namer running backs having career games against the Brown run defense.

I pray the Browns don't fuck this draft up. 12 & 19 are solid picks to have and they could do a number of things - unfortunately 1 of those things is fuck up.

Not the best, not the worst.

Browns would have landed a number of good starters. Malcom Brown, Maxx Williams and Barnidge at TE.

Heeney, Hardy and Morse would all be starting full time by next year. Would still rather have Morse than Erving.

b00bie Post-Combine mock (2/24):

1 - 12 - Malcom Brown - DL - Texas - Technically sound in all facets of the game, a guy you can move all around the line to cause problems for an offensive line. Probably as close to can't miss as you're going to get at this level.

1 - 19 - Maxx Williams - TE - Minnesota - Did he blow away the combine? No, but he's not going to be there in the second round either. I'd like to move down a bit and grab him, but I'm comfortable taking him in this range. Just 20 years old and can make a long-term impact as a weapon in the passing game. More valuable than the WRs I think will be available here (including Strong).

2 - Bryce Petty - QB - Baylor - Been on this guy for a while, and I think he's got the right approach to the game. No, his college system is not a concern for me. He understands how to beat defenses, what he needs refinement in is consistent mechanics. I think he could help a team this season, most others don't.

3 - Trey Flowers - DL - Arkansas - Physical skills off the charts, impressive explosion. Plays too high, plays stiff at times. First round talent, IMO.

4 - Ben Heeney - LB - Kansas - Been my guy for a while, one of the most underrated prospects in the draft. Went to Indy and posted the best 3-cone (by a full tenth), best 20-shuttle and 60-shuttle (almost two full tenths). This year's Borland, but way more athletic. If I have to take him in round three, I do it. Will start for someone.

4 (from BUF) - Justin Hardy - WR - ECU - I know, unthinkable to not draft a WR to this point. Hardy is a seasoned starter at ECU and can help out a team this season. I want the Browns to focus on bringing in a veteran WR to help out in the short-term, Hardy will be a fixture in the long-term.

5 - Mitch Morse - OT/OG - Mizzou - Versatile guy who can play inside or at RT. Kind of a workout warrior with some meh tape, but his athleticism gives him a good chance to help. By all accounts a very smart player who knows how to get leverage.

6 - Darren Waller - WR/TE - Georgia Tech - On a team that lacks weapons, finding a guy like this who can be a matchup nightmare would be a huge help. Almost certainly takes a red-shirt year at the NFL level because he's so raw, but at 6-6, 230+ he could be a fixture in the slot as a matchup problem or on the outside in the red-zone. Need to get creative here.

7 - Davis Tull - OLB - UT Chattanooga - Developmental pass-rushing prospect who may have elevated his prospect status last week. Just throwing his name out there as someone to keep an eye on. Crazy motor, just relentless.

Reached on Conley for sure, Richards went way higher to the Pats. Wouldn't hate it, I guess.

Browns Off-Season Mock (3/4)

Browns sign:

QB - Josh McCown
WR - Brian Hartline
DL TBD
OLB Jerry Hughes

Draft:

1 - 12 - Malcom Brown - DL - Texas - Still sticking with Brown as the target here. Just too much of a sure thing.

**TRADE**
- The Browns, looking for weapons with this pick, decide to move down a few spots and add an additional third round pick for their trouble. With the Top 3 WR off the board (presumably), it makes a ton of sense for them to move back and acquire....

1 - (mid20s) - Chris Conley - WR - Georgia - People are going to call this an overreaction to the combine, but it's probably not. Conley elevated his stock to be considered in this range. He's got incredible speed and lateral quicks to go along with superb hands and separation skills.

2 - Bryce Petty - QB - Baylor - Has the intelligence to succeed and the physical skills to be special. All he needs is time and stability with a system (fingers crossed).

3 - Trey Flowers - DL - Arkansas - Adds to what now looks like a strong defensive front seven with the additions of Brown, FA TBD and Hughes.

3 (via trade) - Jeff Heuerman - TE - Ohio State - One of the more underrated guys in the draft, underutilized by a system that didn't need him to be a receiver. Pretty polished and has good athleticism, could be a good fit at the F-TE position in the new offense.

4 - Mitch Morse - OL - Mizzou - Had him in my last mock as well. Can play all over the line, smart and knows how to win at the POA. Showed decent enough athleticism at the combine to make me think he can play tackle at the next level.

4 (via Bills) - Ramik Wilson - LB - Georgia - (Assuming Ben Heeney is gone) Another Dawg, Wilson gets put into an advantageous position of only needing to play special teams in 2015. Needs to continue to improve his technique, gets himself put out of position too much. Solid add for the future with Dansby and CRob in doubt long-term.

5 - Kyle Emanuel - OLB - North Dakota State - Developmental pass rushing prospect with a good motor and enough athleticism.

6 - Brandon Ivory - NT - Alabama - With Ish Kitchen already an RFA and with Rubin out the door, they'll need depth here.

6 (via Balt) - Jordan Richards - SS - Stanford - Run stuffing safety in the Donte Whitner mold, would have a great mentor to learn the defense and eventually take over for.

7 - Matt Jones - RB - Florida - Got pretty well banged up this season, but would be a nice compliment to West and Cro as a bigger guy who can move a pile.
