2015 Browns Mock Draft Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
When Funchess ran that 4.7 at the combine, I didn't want anything to do with him. But now a few weeks later, the Browns still have a gaping hole at the "Joker" H-back spot that Cameron used to play and Funchess answered some questions about his speed.

Remember that the guy hasn't always been put in great positions for success in Michigan. His quarterback for most of his time playing is now an NFL tailback and UM fans I know don't think Gardner will start next year.

My question on Funchess in the second round will be his fit with a zone blocking scheme and willingness to block as well as run routes. I would hope seeing the way DeFilippo used Marcel Reece would help dedicate Funchess to that role rather than outside receiver.

A little off topic: Now that coaches are saying they want Taylor at nose tackle, I'm less convinced the Browns address the nose tackle before the 3rd round. I'm becoming more intrigued by the LSU OG/RT La'el Collins, especially if he slides into the second round. He seems like a guy who can improve the right side of the line, whether he replaces Greco or Schwartz.

I don't really see how he'd be a full-time player at the next level.

He's a matchup guy, which is nice, but presents little value that high in the draft.

That's a solid bet considering he graduated and is preparing for the draft. :chuckle:

Agreed with b00bs on Funchess. He can't block for shit and always struck me as an underachiever while at UM. I don't see how he wouldn't be a part-time player, especially considering the Browns personnel (abysmal quarterbacking, run heavy).

I openly didn't watch a lot of college football this season, just going off conversations I had months ago. Either way, dude sucked.

I'm really not enthusiastic on this tight end crop. Maxx Williams might get drafted too early at #19, but it would be a reflection of the group behind him, including Funchess. I'm interested to see if the Browns wait it out until Day 3 and fill the "Joker" position with a guy like Jalston Fowler who can clearly block but didn't have much of an opportunity to show his skills as a receiver/ball carrier. One of my favorite younger H backs in the NFL is Bruce Miller, and he played linebacker in college.

I just don't get why draft guys are so quick to plug a 1st rounder in at RT.

Thomas/Bitonio/Mack are all top level starters. Greco and Schwartz settled into their roles nicely when Mack was playing but fell apart when he wasn't. If you want to add to the line at RG or RT, I get it but using a 1st rounder on one seems like complete overkill.

I'd MUCH rather pick up guys later in the draft like Cedric Ogbuehi (T from Texas), Ali Marpet (G from Hobart), Laken Tomlinson (G from Duke), Tre Jackson (G FSU). They are in the discussion for the 3rd and 4th rounds. Plus we already have Michael Bowie and I'm curious to see where he fits.

It definitely feels like the "Mock Draft experts" have bought into the group think that Farmer overvalues offensive and defensive line. They are throwing darts, and if they know a front office tendency, it will show up in their guesses until they are proven wrong. I'm with you, though. I think Schwartz is a better third tackle long term, especially since he wasn't drafted by this front office and is a weaker run blocker than you would want in this system. Some mock drafts have La'el Collins going in the top 12, others have him going in the second round. I think he is the type of lineman the Browns are looking for, just because he engages and finishes blocks in the running game, even if he isn't great in pass protection.

I still have a gut feeling Haslam has Farmer pull the trigger on a Mariota trade. It just seems so Brownslike to do that this year.

Love this...

12. Cleveland: DeVante Parker, WR, Louisville
Comment: Parker would give the Browns a true No. 1 wideout.

19. Cleveland: Eddie Goldman, DT, Florida State
Comment: Goldman is a dominating run defender and would be a nice fit in Mike Pettine's scheme.

43. Cleveland: Owamagbe Odighizuwa, DE, UCLA
Comment: Cleveland continues to upgrade its front seven.

Love the Shelton pick at 19. Perriman at 12 is a bad idea in my opinion. Classic case of being overdrafted because of speed.

Breshad Perriman WR Central Florida
The biggest riser in mock drafts everywhere, the blazingly fast Perriman replaces Pro Bowler Josh Gordon and will pair with free-agent pickup Dwayne Bowe for a set of full-sized WRs.

Danny Shelton NT Washington
Hard to believe that the "The Big Rumbler" drops this far on draft night, but the Browns and their fans would rejoice. Two first-round picks for the second year in a row for Cleveland.

Home run 1st round... not sold on Mario Edwards in 2nd though.

DeVante Parker, WR, Louisville: Despite a clear need at the position, the Browns inexplicably ignored wide receiver in the 2014 draft. Don't expect that to occur in 2015 if Cleveland stands pat and Parker remains on the board.

Danny Shelton, DT, Washington: The Browns finished dead last in run defense a year ago and have allowed more than 2,000 rushing yards in 14 of the past 16 seasons - a recipe for disaster in the black and blue AFC North. The 6-2, 339-pound Shelton is certainly a load but he also offers surprisingly athleticism and passion for nose guard.

Mario Edwards Jr., DE, Florida State: The Browns will be looking for a pass rusher after losing Jabaal Sheard in free agency, and Edwards' stock is soaring as the draft approaches.

A very good draft in terms of talent. I don't like drafting a RT in the 1st round but being able to still get Goldman at 43 allows me to give it a thumbs up.

DeVante Parker, WR, Louisville: The Browns have obvious needs in the front seven on defense, but with Parker still available in this scenario, will they pass on a player like Danny Shelton for a potential No. 1 receiver? Yes.

La'el Collins, OT, LSU: The Browns need to add depth on the offensive line and Collins would give the team a long-term option at right tackle to replace Mitchell Schwartz, who is likely playing his final season in Cleveland this year.

Eddie Goldman, DT, Florida State: After surprising many and going offense with the first two picks, the Browns must go defense here and pick up a promising nose tackle.

I don't mind them. Getting an OT in the 1st would be kind of bad, but Collins at 19 isn't THAT bad. But definitely think they should wait until the mids to pick one up, or wait until next year.

Perriman is a freak with his speed/size and ability to catch the ball above DB's, make em second guess whether to step up or not. But the main problem with that is, IF he catches the ball. And he is going to have CB's that can keep up with him and hinder his receiving.

I would maybe look at him at 19. Guess it all depends on how many are flying off the board. Gonna be a ton taken in the first 2 rounds, how patient will we be.

I still say waiting till the 43rd pick - or even moving up earlier into the 2nd - might be the best option at getting a WR. I'm not even sure I'd take Parker at 12.....at 19 sure.

I'd take that Rob Rang every day of the week. And I haven't even looked at Edwards yet.

Parker-Shelton in the first round would be a grand slam home run.

McShay 5.0:

12) DeVante Parker - Cleveland Browns (7-9)
COLLEGE: Louisville
Class: Sr HT: 6-2 WT: 209 POS: WR
Analysis: The Browns really need a receiver after not taking one in last year's draft and with Josh Gordon's NFL future in doubt. Parker is a good value at this spot; he's a big target who can threaten defenses vertically with his speed and come down with contested catches. The Browns' biggest need is at quarterback, but they won't be able to draft one in the first round in this scenario. They've been mentioned as a team that could move up to draft Marcus Mariota, but I don't think they're as likely to do so as some of the other teams I've mentioned so far.

19) Malcom Brown - Cleveland Browns (7-9)
COLLEGE: Texas
Class: Jr HT: 6-2 WT: 319 POS: DT
Analysis: The Browns lost both Jabaal Sheard and Ahtyba Rubin in free agency, and Phil Taylor is recovering from knee surgery and entering the final year of his contract, so adding a versatile player like Brown to their defensive front would be a wise move. He is just average as a pass-rusher but is excellent versus the run, and he showed the ability to play multiple roles in multiple defensive schemes while at Texas. He'll help shore up the Browns' run defense, after they landed a big-play wide receiver in DeVante Parker with the No. 12 pick.

27) Byron Jones - Dallas Cowboys (12-4)
28) D.J. Humphries - Denver Broncos (12-4)

30) Eric Kendricks - Green Bay Packers (12-4)
31) Phillip Dorsett - New Orleans Saints (7-9)

That fucker could fall to 19. Hopefully teams a few picks ahead of us don't start baiting the Browns now b/c of this and they fall for it.
