2015 Browns Mock Draft Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Rob Rang: http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/...-draft-dolphins-eagles-continue-to-make-waves

12. Cleveland Browns - T.J. Clemmings, OT, Pittsburgh: As the only team with two first-round picks, the Browns have a lot of flexibility but also plenty of needs, including at quarterback. Protecting the passer is also key and Clemmings has the length and athleticism to ultimately prove a significant upgrade over incumbent right tackle Mitchell Schwartz.

19. Cleveland Browns (from Buffalo) - Malcom Brown, DT, Texas: The Browns finished dead last in the NFL in run defense a year ago and have allowed over 2,000 rushing yards in 14 of the past 16 seasons - a recipe for disaster in the black and blue AFC North. The 6-4, 320-pound Brown is a stout run defender who add bulk and strength to an otherwise undersized front.

I don't know why so many people have CLE taking an OT. That's not the pressing need.

Yea I don't get the RT in the first round stuff. 3rd-4th OK fine. 1st or 2nd is complete overkill. That being said I LOVE Malcolm Brown at 19. I like Shelton at 12 more but Brown at 19 would be a good get.

Pete Prisco again: Mock 2

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State -- This isn't changing. He's the guy.

2. Tennessee Titans: Leonard Williams, DT-DE, USC -- I still think they pass on the quarterback and take the big defensive lineman from USC.

3. Philadelphia Eagles (from Jacksonville Jaguars): Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon -- Chip Kelly makes the bold move to go up and get his guy.

4. Oakland Raiders: Randy Gregory, OLB-DE, Oakland Raiders -- They stay with an edge rusher to amp up the pass rush.

5. Washington Redskins: Dante Fowler, OLB, Florida -- They have to get more production from their outside spots, especially if Brian Orakpo leaves.

6. New York Jets: Vic Beasley, OLB, Clemson -- He would fit in nicely as a 3-4 rush player in their scheme.

7. Chicago Bears: Shane Ray, OLB, Missouri --They are converting to a 3-4 defense, and Ray would be an impact rusher outside to pair with Pernell McPhee, who they are signing.

8. Atlanta Falcons: Alvin "Bud" Dupree, DE, Kentucky -- Their front seven is lacking a big-play rusher and Dupree has the tools to be that guy.

9. New York Giants: Brandon Scherff, G-T, Iowa -- The line needs help inside and Scherff could move inside to guard.

10. St. Louis Rams: Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama -- Get Sam Bradford some weapons, and then evaluate him.

11. Minnesota Vikings: Landon Collins, S, Alabama -- The Vikings would have a heck of a safety duo if they paired him with Harrison Smith.

12. Cleveland Browns: Kevin White, WR, West Virginia -- He is a deep threat who would fill a major need.

13. New Orleans Saints: Trae Waynes, CB, Michigan State -- They need to get somebody opposite Keenan Lewis.

14. Miami Dolphins: Marcus Peters, CB, Washington -- He has some off-field concerns, but they have to get a corner and he has a ton of talent.

15. San Francisco 49ers: DeVante Parker, WR, Louisville -- They have to give Colin Kaepernick a real threat down the field.

16. Houston Texans -- Jaelen Strong, WR, Arizona State -- He is a big, strong and ran a solid team at the combine. With Andre Johnson on his way out, they need help outside.

17. San Diego Chargers: Ereck Flowers, G-T, Miami -- He can play either guard or tackle, depending on where they would want him.

18. Kansas City Chiefs: Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Missouri -- Yes, he has off-field issues. But they need help outside in the worst way.

19. Cleveland Browns: Danny Shelton, NT, Washington -- They need to get a power player in the middle of their defense.

20. Jacksonville Jaguars (from Philadelphia Eagles): Eli Harold, OLB-DE, Virginia -- They are looking for help with their pass rush, and Harold would fit what they want.

21. Cincinnati Bengals: La'el Collins, T, LSU -- Andrew Whitworth is getting up in the years and Andre Smith can be a free agent next year.

22. Pittsburgh Steelers: Jalen Collins, CB, LSU -- They have to get better outside. The secondary isn't good.

23. Detroit Lions: Eddie Goldman, DT, Florida State -- Ndamukong Suh is gone, and Nick Fairley and C.J. Mosley could be gone as well.

24. Arizona Cardinals : Arik Armstead, DE, Oregon -- He is a big, physical force in the same mold as Calais Campbell.

25. Carolina Panthers: D.J. Humphries, T, Florida -- Watching him on tape, he reminds me of Denver's Ryan Clady.

26. Baltimore Ravens: Kevin Johnson, CB, Wake Forest -- He is a smooth cover player who would be an immediate help.

27. Dallas Cowboys: Malcom Brown, DT, Texas -- They need to get stronger inside and Brown would do that.

28. Denver Broncos: Jordan Phillips, DT, Oklahoma -- He is a power player who fits if they let Terrance Knighton out the door.

29. Indianapolis Colts: Bernardrick McKinney, ILB, Mississippi State -- They need to get bigger and stronger inside on their defense.

30. Green Bay Packers: Eric Kendricks, LB, UCLA -- A run-and-chase linebacker with speed is lacking in their defense.

31. Seattle Seahawks: Philip Dorsett, WR, Miami -- I love the idea of adding his speed to their offense.

32. New England Patriots: Carl Davis, DT, Iowa -- With Vince Wilfork likely moving on, they need help inside.

I would be ecstatic if that actually happened.

I'm not sure Shelton or White is available at 12.

I'd have a permaboner.

Yeah, no arguing with that draft on Cleveland's end.

I think Shelton could absolutely fall there. There is definitely a concern that he plays too high, that could scare some of the 3-4 teams off. I don't think it's anything that isn't coachable, he really reminds me a bit of Haloti Ngata coming out.

I strongly desire Shelton's energy in the middle. If he's there at 12, I do it.

Yes. Let's call a spade a spade. Most rush yards allowed per game. Most 1st downs by rush per game. 3rd highest 1st down percentage by rush per game. Tied for 4th in yards allowed per rush.

We need to bolster our interior. The Chargers, Chiefs, and Saints also all sucked against the rush, and those are 3 teams that pick between our 12th and 19th pick. Obviously this comes down to our evaluation on the talent drop off between say Shelton and the next guy down, and White and the next guys down. This draft has enough receivers where I would rather take the run stuffer first and then hit the receiver next. Either way tho, we need to address the interior of our line in a bad way, and I have convinced myself that we do it in the 1st round.

As far as Petty goes, it would be a huge embarrassment to take him in r2 a year after Manziel, but saving face is the least of our problems. It's just hard to develop 2 qbs, getting them enough reps to get better, with the 1s and 2s. I have no problem at all with Petty, but I hope that we trade down in the 2nd round and get another pick if we take him. Every layman on this board always says "I wouldn't do it in the 1st, but I'd do it in the 2nd round" for these types of players, and I think it severely underrates the 2nd round pick as a gambling asset. That pick will still fetch a 2nd Team All American. Once again, it depends on how they grade Petty, and from the games I have watched, he looked great in college. I just hope that we are smart about it.

I have alluded to this before, and it's hard to articulate but the plus side of getting Petty is that I think it gives the vets (especially the guys who I feel are righting this ship like Dansby and Hitner) something to be optimistic about. I mean, on day 1 of training camp, if we only have a rehabbed Johnny (who has a lot of respect to earn) and another career mediocre backup, I am not sure if there's even the optimism that we can make the playoffs. I think drafting Petty would solve that, so it might be worth the stretch to get him in round two, only for that reason. I just hope guys like Farmer have a plan and understand what is at stake. Yes last year sucked, but we did taste success when we were 7-4. We learned to compete. That momentum and grit is important for a turnaround, so I hope that we can come up with something.

So now that I am done contradicting myself with Petty in round 2, and have thoroughly typed out both brain cells' opinions, I will say this: if Petty's coaches say that he has an incredible work ethic, then he should be our guy in r2 on a small trade down. Final answer.

Matt Miller has a new 7 round mock out:

12.) The Pick: Nose Tackle Danny Shelton, Washington
The most exciting part of the Phil Taylor era was Peyton Hillis announcing the pick as the Madden cover boy. Taylor hasn't lived up to his first-round status, and it's time to replace him. Danny Shelton is a big, bad, pure stud at nose tackle.

Shelton is a good value at No. 12 and a massive (literally and figuratively) need for the Browns. He can be the anchor they lack in the middle of the defense and free up inside linebackers to make plays inside and outside the tackle box.

Drafting a nose tackle at No. 12 may not be a sexy pick, but it's the right pick for the Browns as they look to get a foundation piece on defense.

19.) The Pick: Tight End Maxx Williams, Minnesota
Jordan Cameron is gone as a free agent, and the Cleveland Browns have to be feeling better about their wide receiver corps with Dwayne Bowe and Brian Hartline now in place. That means they're free to address their huge need at tight end with a pick that's also a very good value at pick No. 19.

Maxx Williams, a redshirt sophomore when he left Minnesota, is raw, but he has Travis Kelce or Greg Olsen-like upside and can be the dual-threat tight end the Browns build their intermediate passing game around. And whether it's Josh McCown or Johnny Manziel at quarterback, Williams gives them a big, physical threat in the red zone.

43.) Cleveland—WR Devin Funchess, Michigan

77.) Cleveland—SS Jaquiski Tartt, Samford

111.) Cleveland—EDGE Lorenzo Mauldin, Louisville

115.) Cleveland—LB Ben Heeney, Kansas

147.) Cleveland—T Rob Crisp, North Carolina State

188.) Cleveland—WR Devaris Daniels, Notre Dame

201.) Cleveland—TE MyCole Pruitt, Southern Illiinois

229.) Cleveland—RB Tyler Varga, Yale

Ben Heeney!!

That would be a strong draft, even though I hate Funchess.

That would be a strong draft, even though I hate Funchess.

I used to be high on him earlier on, but I don't know about taking him in the 2nd. I may want to pass on that.

Time for the Pete Prisco update: Mock #4

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- Florida State QB Jameis Winston: The Bucs had Marcus Mariota in last week, but Winston is their guy.

2. Tennessee Titans -- USC DE Leonard Williams: I will keep him here, even though they will strongly consider a quarterback.

3. St. Louis Rams (From Jacksonville) -- Oregon QB Marcus Mariota: They move up to get a quarterback.

4. Oakland Raiders -- West Virginia WR Kevin White: Satisfies a need for a big-play receiver to help Derek Carr.

5. Washington Redskins -- Nebraska OLB Randy Gregory: They need a speed edge rusher in the worst way.

6. New York Jets -- Florida OLB Dante Fowler: They lack a great edge player. This kid could be that.

7. Chicago Bears -- Alabama WR Amari Cooper: Even with the addition of Eddie Royal, they need help at receiver. Cooper is a potential star.

8. Atlanta Falcons -- Clemson OLB Vic Beasley: The pass rush is horrible, and Beasley could help them improve it.

9. New York Giants -- Iowa OL Brandon Scherff: The line needs bodies, whether tackle or guard. And he can do both.

10. Jacksonville Jaguars (From St. Louis) -- Kentucky DE/OLB Alvin "Bud" Dupree: Could come in and play the Leo spot in their defense.

11. Minnesota Vikings -- Alabama S Landon Collins: This just makes too much sense to pair him with Harrison Smith.

12. Cleveland Browns -- Washington DT Danny Shelton: This kid would really improve them inside.

13. New Orleans Saints -- Missouri OLB/DE Shane Ray: New Orleans needs a young edge rusher who can create problems for quarterbacks.

14. Miami Dolphins -- Washington CB Marcus Peters: Adding a young corner is a must.Brent Grimes isn't a kid anymore.

15. San Francisco 49ers -- Michigan State CB Trae Waynes: They lost Chris Culliver, so adding another corner makes sense.

16. Houston Texans -- Louisville WR DeVante Parker: They still need more playmakers outside.

17. San Diego Chargers -- Oklahoma WR Dorial Green-Beckham: Time they get Philip Rivers a real No. 1 receiver.

18. Kansas City Chiefs -- Pittsburgh T T.J. Clemmings: Could use help on the right side of their line.

19. Cleveland Browns -- Arizona State WR Jaelen Strong: Even with Dwayne Bowe on board, they still need a young outside receiver.

20. Philadelphia Eagles -- Virginia OLB Eli Harold: They drafted Marcus Smith last year, but you can never have too many young pass rushers.

21. Cincinnati Bengals -- Florida State DT Eddie Goldman: A power player inside who fills a need for this defense.

22. Pittsburgh Steelers -- LSU CB Jalen Collins: They must get a corner. Have you looked at what they have?

23. Detroit Lions -- Oklahoma DT Jordan Phillips: They have suffered some hits inside, making this a need pick.

24. Arizona Cardinals -- Wisconsin RB Melvin Gordon: I think they're looking for an inside-the-tackle runner and Gordon could be that guy.

25. Carolina Panthers -- Florida T D.J. Humpries: If they think Michael Oher is their left tackle, they're nuts.

26. Baltimore Ravens -- Florida State CB Ronald Darby: They have to get help at a bad position.

27. Dallas Cowboys -- Texas DT Malcom Brown: They added Greg Hardy, so why not add a power player inside?

28. Denver Broncos -- Miami (Fla.) OL Erick Flowers: Their line is in flux and Flowers could play right tackle for them.

29. Indianapolis Colts -- Florida State OL Cameron Erving: An upgrade at center, but also could play guard or tackle in a pinch.

30. Green Bay Packers -- Wake Forest CB Kevin Johnson: After losing two corners in free agency, Johnson would be a nice addition.

31. New Orleans Saints (From Seattle) -- Minnesota TE Maxx Williams: They need to replace Jimmy Graham, and this is a bad TE class. So why not?

32. New England Patriots -- Iowa DT Carl Davis: They lack a power player inside and Davis could be that guy.

McShay 4.0:

12 Danny Shelton Cleveland Browns (7-9) COLLEGE: Washington Class: Sr HT: 6-2 WT: 339 POS: DT

Analysis: Outside of quarterback, which the Browns aren’t going to be able to address here in this scenario, the team’s biggest needs are at wide receiver, right tackle and nose tackle. Shelton is the No. 9 player on our board, so he’s a value here, and there are good receiver and right tackle prospects to be had with the Browns’ No. 19 pick. You always have to worry about consistency with a player Shelton’s size (6-2, 339 pounds), but he has the potential to be a dominant force against the run and double-team magnet in the middle of Cleveland’s defensive front. He can also push the pocket as a pass-rusher.

19 Ereck Flowers Cleveland Browns (7-9) COLLEGE: Miami (FL) Class: Jr HT: 6-6 WT:329 POS: OT
Analysis: With Danny Shelton going to them at No. 12, I think this pick would come down to a wide receiver or offensive tackle. Flowers is a tough player with very good intangibles who takes well to coaching. He has a massive frame, is effective as a pass protector and a run blocker, and could fit in at right tackle opposite Joe Thomas or at guard.

I used to be high on him earlier on, but I don't know about taking him in the 2nd. I may want to pass on that.

If his toe checks out, you can definitely take him there just based on pure talent.

At Michigan's pro day he measured in at 6'4" 1/4 and 232 LBS.

He ran a 4.47 and and a 4.52. That is really strong for his size.

I get he's a bit of a tweener but there are certainly creative ways you can use a guy that big.
