2015 Cleveland Browns Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Then he should leave right along with O'Neil.

The weaknesses are obvious here, if the coach is unwilling or unable to adapt to change then he's not the right guy to lead a franchise.

I agree with you as well. If Pettine proves again to be too stubborn for good change, then the Browns should react accordingly. I'm just asking as a hypothetical, where does Pettine go to find a defensive coordinator if his job is spared? Personally, I don't see him acquiescing control of the defense to anyone that he doesn't have a good grip on. I'm also having a hard time finding where the candidate with those qualities may come from...

He's been around the game for a while, I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility he'll have some contacts at his disposal.

He needs a veteran presence back there.

The new Browns have, and always will suck. They will either win one of the last six to lose out on the #1 pick, or use it to shore up the defense. Don't buy the tickets, don't buy the merch, don't watch. Until Jimmy can supply an 8-8 season, there is no point. Guy is a gas station clerk. What did we expect?

I've got them going 4-12 at this point.

I agree, but where does Pettine go next to find a defensive coordinator? He's got most of his staff from Buffalo here and has went to college for new guys that replaced his Buffalo crew. It just doesn't seem, to me, like Pettine will trust an experienced guy with his defense.

Go hire Rob Ryan again?

ETA: Not necessarily saying that is the greatest option (I can't remember how he did during his last go around), but just pointing out a possible vet option from his coaching background.

Would you guys want the Browns to go after Les Miles if he is fired by LSU?

it's possible but I really think Baltimore is gonna come out next Monday mad as hell

San Francisco on the other hand the Browns should win

Wouldn't mind that at all. His wife still lives in the area too, so he might actually be open to it.

It would certainly be the big pop PR move that I'm assuming Jimmy would want out of the next hire. I didn't realize that he was a TE coach for 3 years in the NFL, which was my biggest concern, i.e. a lack of experience in the league.

I wonder if he would demand control over the roster and/or who the GM would be?

Yeah, absolutely not on Les Miles.

I thought about this yesterday... No, I don't really want Rob Ryan again. I do, however, see the logical connection that could lead to a discussion between he and Pett. My concern there is Ryan is a guy who has conviction and who likes to run his own defense. I just don't see Pettine acquiescing that kind of autonomy on the defense to anyone. I also don't see Pett wanting a loose cannon out there.

Edit: I don't see Les Miles coming to Cleveland. At all.

Why in the world does anyone want Rob Ryan as a DC? He's been a DC every year since 2004. In those 12 years, his average rankings are horrible

Yards Allowed: 21.8 out of 32
Points Allowed: 21.8 out of 32
Take Aways: 24.2 out of 32

His Defenses have been in the top 10 in Yards Allowed twice in 12 years, once in points allowed and never in take aways.

He's a passionate guy who looks like a hobo out there, his brother is an overrated head coach and his Dad was wildly successful as a DC but a poor HC. He's the Johnny Football of DCs :chuckle:

The NFL believes in stagnation and nepotism. They aren't too keen on outside the box thinking. He will probably have another DC role next season.

Watch an LSU game. He is a terrible game manager and play caller. When the games get tight, if talent is equal or close to, I would bet on Les to lose 10 times out of 10.
