2015 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
SEC was way, way overrated after one week. Missou barely beating Arkansas STate. Same for Auburn and Jacksonville State. Tennessee lost at home in the conferences only big non-conference game of the week. And then Arkansas. Hopefully next year the pollsters will be a little slower in just putting every SEC team that starts the season 1-0 into the top 25.

Doubt it...its going to take a few more years of their pathetic bowl performances from last season for that to eventually happen, but it won't be next year.

And I didn't get the Auburn hype a few weeks ago, and I still don't get it...Will Muschamp makes them a top 10 team? Glad they got exposed early on.

I caught the end of the Toledo-Arkansas game. The spin from the announcers was dizzying.

The play by play guy asked how this affects Arkansas' SOS. The color guy said "Well, this makes it tougher. Toledo is obviously a good team since they beat an SEC school."

It's the ultimate in circular logic. Every SEC team is good, and every loss they have is a good loss because only good teams can beat SEC teams.

If Auburn is still ranked ahead of Northwestern next week, the polls have officially become irrelevant.

He has.

It's the offense (basically the QB) that has brought them back down to an average team.

I mean, the game I saw today I saw 2 WRs for Jacksonville St doing whatever they wanted against Auburn's DBs, especially on jump balls...they were shitty on defense last year, the hiring of a good DC can't hide all of that...that's seriously all that has changed on this team.

And lets not act like Louisville with a true Freshman QB (and who lost to Tom Herman's Houston team today) and Jacksonville St. are offensive powerhouses.

For how good the Pac 12 is and how bad the Big 10 is...how come the Pac 12's best team would be the 3rd best in the Big 10?

In an OT game today, Auburn's defense let up 20 points. Despite 3 turnovers from the offense. The offense scored 27 points.

Against Louisville last week, the defense let up 24 points and scored 7 points. Again, 3 turnovers from the offense. The offense scored 24 points.

Offense seems like the problem to me. Johnson is a crappy QB.

Look at the teams you are mentioning, and you will have your answer for why I think it is hilarious that you think he has already made them a good defense...and I'm sorry, but acting like giving up 438 total yards to Jacksonville St. at home was a success is just wrong.

He clearly has already made an impact. The defense is noticeably better than it was last year. And will only continue to get better in the future.

Meanwhile, the offense has regressed, grossly.

I think it is hilarious that you think Muschamp & the defense is what is keeping them from being a top 10 team.

Also, @Rob I'm curious....were you one of the many posters who were calling for Luke Fickell's head after every disappointing defensive performance against much lesser competition a few seasons ago? I may have to go check that, cause if this was OSU and Luke Fickell giving up 438 yards against an FCS team, I think we'd be having a different discussion on what is being impacted.

Yep...

I probably was. But then, that defense gave up a helluva lot more than 20 points to some garbage teams. And any team with an offensive pulse was guaranteed 30+.

Yards are cute and all, but points are what actually matters.

And if Auburn's offense was dropping 40+ every game like OSU was back then...then maybe I'd start complaining about the defense.

A defense that gives up 22 PPG (including an OT game), while the offense averages 3 turnovers per game, is pretty damn good.

For the record, they were 16th in points against after Week 1.

I mean, I guess...but it's not really a credit to their defense and Will Muschamp that, for example, Jacksonville St. missed 2 short FGs...that isn't exactly his doing.

And me and you have different standards man...22 PPG, against Louisville in a true Freshman's 1st ever game and Jacksonville St, is not something I would want to be doing if I was a "good defense". Again, those #'s are cool and all, but who they played matters...they're going to get blitzed by some of the better offenses in the SEC...watch.

Again, I just need to say this again because you are defending it...Jacksonville St....Jacksonville fucking St., put up 438 yards against their defense...

I mean, it is obviously too small of a sample size to draw any real conclusions.

But if I'm an Auburn fan I'm way more worried about the offense. They've pretty much looked incompetent. As you say, their competition has been bad. 27 points against an FCS school in an OT game? Lul.

And shit, there might not be two "good" offenses in the SEC anyway.

See, here is the thing...you can be worried about both offense and defense at the same time...just cause the offense looks bad doesn't mean you ignore the obvious issues on defense too....and that's what Auburn should be feeling...they should be worried about their entire team, cause they look fucking terrible for a consensus top 10 team (supposedly).

And I'll tell you this. If the talent level of Jacksonville St. can put up 438 yards against Auburn, anyone in the SEC can...and if anyone in the SEC puts up 438 yards against them, they're dropping 45+ on them.

I have no idea what Jacksonville St brings to the table (maybe they are a 2007 App State type team that's actually good? Idk), but you don't understand how hilariously abysmal some offenses in the SEC are.

We'll just have to wait and see. If Auburn gives up 438 YPG and/or 45 PPG in SEC play, I'll gladly eat crow.
