2015 Draft Prospects

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Ray grew up in the toughest gang-controlled area of K.C. His dad has been in jail since he was in elementary school. There's a lot to be cautious about with Ray.

To me it looks though the board is laid out for us to come out of the first round with a WR and a DT. Which would you rather have...

12: Danny Shelton
19 or a trade down: Strong/Perriman

or

12: Parker
19 or a trade down: Malcolm Brown/Eddie Goldman

FWIW, Falcons fans feel like they lost the trade for Julio Jones. I wouldn't call it a failure either way.

Depending on what the board looks like it wouldn't shock me to see the Browns end up staying at 12 and moving up from 19.

If Shelton and Parker are both there at 10, I could see the Browns moving up from 19 to 10, snagging Parker in front of Minny, and hope Shelton falls to 12.

I don't necessarily agree with it but everything suggests the Browns love both players and probably would be pretty pumped if they could add both.

The one thing that has changed in the past few days is the expected drop of Shane Ray, with Gregory likely sinking too. I think the other top defender, Shelton, is the one the Browns want to secure.

Shelton/Perriman would be my first choice of these combinations.

To me (a casual fan), I wouldn't get upset with Ray as a value pick only because on defense, I feel that we have strong vocal leadership in place with Hitner, Haden, and Dansby. I am almost always opposed to these types of picks, and I haven't the slightest how Ray's talent level stacks up, but if we are going to go there on hard-core value (i.e. - we have him as the only player left on a certain tier), I won't be upset by it.

For example, if we get Shelton, Perriman, and then use 43 and parts to move up a few picks to get Ray, I will approve. If that's totally unrealistic (like no way he gets out of the 1st), I suppose we have to let someone else take that risk.

For the record, I am vehemently opposed to taking an offensive player with similar issues. On that side of the ball, I think that we are utterly rudderless when it comes to vocal leadership.

I hope they don't pick/miss out on Petty just to spite you boobie.

I think this needs to be addressed.

A lot of people are under the impression that while Petty is raw, he is an eventual starter in the NFL. The reality is that Petty's arm is barely average, and his velocity at the point of release is really low. He's also raw, mechanically a mess, and is coming from a huge gimmick offense.

IMO, I think he's firmly behind Grayson and Mannion and tied with Hundley. He's a real project and shouldn't be taken before the third round.

Someone retweeted this and saw it on my timeline.

Nike likes to ruin everything, huh? lol

For what it's worth, Jon Gruden will disagree with your statements about Petty's arm. Gruden believes Petty has the best arm talent in the draft.

Here is Dane Brugler's write up on him as well...

STRENGTHS: Good-sized athlete with deceiving mobility to scramble and pick up yards with his legs (21 career rushing touchdowns)…runs with forward lean and toughness to power through defenders when needed…strong-enough arm to make all the needed NFL throws…assertive downfield thrower with excellent touch on bucket tosses…excellent job identifying single match-ups pre-snap and attacking susceptible situations…highly efficient once he gets in rhythm, displaying precise timing and placement – some experience working through progressions…usually consistent upper body mechanics and follow-through…comfortable using his eyes to deceive defenders, utilizing pumps and other ball fakes…competitive and confident...

WEAKNESSES: Product of a one-read offensive system with predetermined reads, emphasizing quick throws – panics at times when initial read is taken away…very little college experience taking snaps from under center and wasn’t asked to use his feet or move in the pocket…struggles to climb, drop or reset his footwork…poor pocket presence with an undeveloped internal clock, deteriorating when the pocket crumbles – feels ghosts and rarely shows the ability to reset his eyes once moved from his original spot…

He has the mindset, character, arm, size and athletic ability to be a good starter in the league. The question ares, can he be steady in the pocket, protect the ball, read defenses and is he more than a system QB?

La'el Collins's draft profile does say he is a finisher...

Too soon?

Ourlads did a preview where they said Petty had the slowest measured velocity of any QB at the combine at 57 MPH. When I hear that, combined with what I see, I think his arm is barely passable. The rest of the stuff...well, we'll see. He's firmly behind Grayson and probably equal with Mannion, for me. For where he'll likely be drafted, I'm not a fan of the Petty gamble.

3rd round at the absolute highest.
