Mock Draft 4.12 Edition:
1 (2) - Jared Goff - QB - Cal - We're starting to hear the rumblings that it will happen. Kudos to the Browns for getting this done if it happens.
2 (43)* - Vernon Butler - DL - Louisiana Tech - While everyone is expecting a WR here, I'm taking the dominant front seven player defensively if he's there. While WR is the bigger need, Butler has the greater impact on the team immediately, and likely is the better player for the future.
3 (64) - Rashard Higgins - WR - Colorado State - This is a guy I've been on since he helped propel Garrett Grayson into the second tier of QBs last year. Higgins has a 0.79 drop rate, he catches everything and seems to always find a way to get open. Not sure he's a future number 1, but if you're looking for a consistent target who will get shit done, this is your guy.
3 (76) - Joe Haeg - OT - NDSU - They did enough scouting on Wentz that this dude should be on their radar. He's a four-year starter that can play anywhere. Came into NDSU at 235 pounds, so he still needs to get stronger. He can compete with Austin Pasztor for the RT position, but given time in an NFL weight room he could be a long-term starter.
4 (99) - Charone Peake - WR - Clemson - Under the radar prospect, but absolutely crushes every physical metric out there. Good size (6'2, 209), but has elfen hands and a medical history which raises some concerns. Legitimate deep threat and runs underneath routes effectively.
4 (138) - Kevin Byard - S - MTSU - Dude makes plays all over the field and has about 50 starts worth of experience. He can step in and compete from day one. Will certainly make plays on special teams from the outset, which will be necessary given the departure of Bademosi.
5 (141) - James Cowser - OLB - Southern Utah - Since I'm not taking Killebrew, need to get my SUU quota filled. Cowser is an uber-athletic pass rusher with better technical skills than he's given credit for. He's older than most because he's a Mormon and went on an LDS mission, but I think he'd make a good understudy to Kruger.
5 (172) - Deiondre' Hall - CB - Northern Iowa - Ballhawking defensive back that made some huge plays in the MVC (13 INT). Long limbs (6-2, 200, 34.5'' arms) and bulky frame that could make him a fit at FS as well. Needs work on his backpedal and doesn't have the best hips, but coming from a smaller program he could take a jump at the next level.
5 (173) - David Morgan - TE - UTSA - Wanted to draft a different TE because I've taken this dude like every time. But I couldn't, he's a great sleeper pick here and he's faster than his combine times show.
6 (176) - Darius Jackson - RB - Eastern Michigan - Big bodied back with some underrated speed. Give him a chance to be the third back with Crow and Duke.
7 (223) - Brandon Chubb - LB - Wake Forest - Brother of Georgia RB Nick Chubb, he's a good athlete that could make an impact on ST and develop into a bit more down the line. Futures bet.
*Traded to the Rams for Pick #43 (2nd) and #76 (3rd)
