2016 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Why is he only a 2nd half player next year? 6 months takes us to mid-May. He'd need to be out 8 months to miss the entire 1st half of the season

Raburn being cut makes us look very thin in the outfield now.

Almonte and Chisenhall are the only roster locks at this point. Sands likely won't be around. Will we see a combination of Walters, Naquin, and Choice next year? Maybe make a trade for an Ozuna?

I figure it'll take six weeks for Brantley to get right once he starts playing

Season ended 10/3, gets seemingly misdiagnosed and/or incorrect rehabilitation recommendation, doesn't undergo surgery until November 9th setting back his recovery a month+.

Just a totally botched situation all the way around.

This kind of stuff happens all the time. Some injuries can heal on their own and they usually try to go that way if possible, but obviously it wasn't healing like they wanted it to and decided he needed surgery.

I don't think that you have to assume that the Indians medical staff are a bunch of idiots.

Not even close.

Situations with fringe injuries that could eventually lead to surgery are always left up to the players. Most of them opt to rehab because most athletes, and people in general, don't want to get surgery.

I bet he came to the Indians with a rehab plan and said if he isn't where he wants to be by a certain date, he'll opt to get cut.

Speaking as someone who has been through this, surgery is the absolute last option you want when dealing with what seems to be a minor shoulder problem.

This is a really incorrect version of the process here.

I'll be sure to inform their physicians that the team's internet team doctors think they are incompetent :chuckle: All that experience, knowledge and accolades down the toilet!

Contrary to fan opinion, surgery is really a last resort and especially with the shoulder. Brantley's injury sounds like the most lovely type- not an obvious injury that screams surgery but then it just doesn't respond to rest and treatment. As AZ said, at least it doesn't reduce the accurate noodle arm to an inaccurate one. Just goes to show what happens when guys try defensively- guys who do this get hurt. He needs to stop trying. Wonder how this changes the early OF situation? Maybe it gets Michael Choice a shot, although they didn't bother to call him up when rosters expanded. Oddly glad if they go dumpster diving for an OFer.

You can't make this up. Cleveland Cavaliers are now on the clock.

I'm banning you for life if something happens to mess up our best chance at winning our first championship in 51 years :chuckle:

Seriously though...

I think this means a lot of DH for Brantley next year. My big worry is the Indians ongoing issue of starting the season poorly - this doesn't help.
