2016 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Going to watch the Cook-Jones-Goff tripleheader today.

My first real extended look at Goff.
Have to work today, please report back with your opinions on whether or not to gaffe for goff

Various notes/thoughts

Connor Cook 1st Half - 9/13, 158 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT: Looked fantastic, but honestly wasn't tested by the defense too much. Good mixture of under center and shotgun. His OL allowed him multiple clean pockets which allowed him to to go through multiple progressions with little pressure. First TD pass was the most impressive IMO, stepped up in the face of blitz (RB picked it up last second) and threw to TE right before/as he was starting his inside break. Threw his man open v. needing to see him open. Another play that stood out was in the 2nd Q, MSU looked to throw a bubble screen that was blown up immediately. Rather than force the called play and risk an INT, Cook simply ate a short yard loss sack. Second TD pass was aided by a spectacular catch by #16. It wasn't a terrible throw, just slightly overthrown to a guy that was pretty open off a double move - which to be fair was aided by a good pump fake by Cook. Third touchdown was a nice touch pass over the middle with more great protection.

MSU didn't have much of a running attack to speak of in the first half, but they stick to their guns and kept pounding the rock (20 carries to 13 passes). Their offense in general is deliberate and isn't really suited for a lot of big plays, but an impressive half nonetheless for Cook.

Cook 2nd half: 6/10, 89 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT - Had a nice opening drive to start the half including another nice TD pass over the middle again to #16 again with good protection. The Spartans were generally up big the entire 2nd half so it was a far more conservative game plan.

Michigan State runs very few screens, very few options and very few package plays. It's as traditional/pro style as it gets at the college as far as I'm concerned. The level of competition today wasn't really there in terms of pass rush, but Cook looked total comfortable and in command of their offense. I don't know if he's got superstar potential like Cardale or Goff, but evaluating him really isn't too tough. He's a lot like Jameis Winston last year in that respect. What you see on Saturday is basically what he'll be asked to do on Sunday. There aren't a huge amount of "I think he'll be able to do this" questions about Cook because he's already doing those things. The only question is does he do any of them well enough to warrant being drafted in the top half of the first round.

Last year he was a freshman and Cal had a lot of injuries. This year he has stood in the pocket and delivered the ball, even though he knew a hit was coming. That's rare in college ball. He has mobility and knows when to throw instead of running.

That said, there's a good chance he stays in school another year. I'm watching today's big game test as well.

Well that was a quick pull for Cardale. Fans still thinking #FailforCardale

I can't rhyme anything catchy with Cook :(

Goff has some real ability. Very intelligent and looks very confident in the pocket.

Yeah, Cardale should have rode the hype train into the 2nd round of the 2015 Draft like I and many others here thought he should have.

Costly mistake.

So that the team that drafted him could find out how raw he is. If he is serious about being an NFL QB - going back to school was his best decision.

The kid only played a few games (very big ones, at that) and NOBODY had tape on him. He was bound to be exposed this year. He is no where near being NFL ready. So far, it is looking pretty obvious. Getting by on emotion and playing for a team that got hot at the right time will take you so far. He has to show he has the tools to be a legitimate prospect.

Instead of cashing in on the hype and being a (likely) 2nd round pick...

He's likely going to ride the bench the rest of the way, go to the NFL, and be a...what...5th rounder?

It's a mistake.

Fail4Cardale has a whole new meaning now than it did just 2 weeks ago, no?

Chad Kelly can really sling it, really impressive arm strength.

Cardale is the most immature prospect since u can remember. Started with the dumb stuff he was doing with Noah in the playoffs. I wouldn't roux him in the 1st round.
