That was a surprisingly quick drop out by a guy that a lot of people thought would be a front runner. Obviously Bush is in it to win it, but I wonder how long other establishment candidates like Kasich or Rubio stay in while the crazies get all the love.

Here's who is running:

Jeb Bush
Ben Carson
Chris Christie
Ted Cruz
Carly Fiorina
Jim Gilmore
Lindsey Graham
Mike Huckabee
Bobby Jindal
John Kasich
George Pataki
Rand Paul
Marco Rubio
Rick Santorum
Donald Trump

I could see these guys dropping out prior to Iowa:
Jim Gilmore
Lindsey Graham
Bobby Jindal
George Pataki

I could see these guys dropping out after Iowa:
Rick Santorum

I could see these guys dropping out after New Hampshire:
Ben Carson
Chris Christie
Ted Cruz
Carly Fiorina

I could see these guys dropping out after the South Carolina primary:
Mike Huckabee

Trump and Bush will be in until at least Super Tuesday. I think Rand Paul will stick around until Super Tuesday or maybe March 5th, as that's when the majority of potential states for him will have voted including Kentucky.

If the Democrats close out their nomination early, which doesn't seem likely now that Sanders is leading in Iowa, then it'll put pressure on Republicans to consolidate around a candidate.

It's amazing when you list them all out like that how many people with zero chance of being elected president are running for that job. Money and egos sure do allow for crazy things.

I'm actually surprised that Rand is still in. I thought his campaign was in major upheaval a couple months ago? I guess he righted the ship.

I wasn't a supporter last time (I was for Obama all the way), nor have I understood how anyone thinks she's a great candidate. She's a cunt (#sorrynotsorry), comes off as fake (I honestly question sometimes if she's actually in it to help people or just wants to be the first female president), and is an easy target due to the skeletons in her closet.

Bill is one of the greatest politicians ever, not just because he's incredibly smart (hillary is obviously this) but also because he is charismatic as fuck. I mean he's managed to have a great post-presidential career where he has a successful foundation and is relied on by the current democratic president to sell his policies despite having lied to us about getting a blowie in the oval. Hillary either hasn't learned shit from being around the guy for so long or is incapable of producing a semblance of real emotion.

end rant.

Running for President is often a stepping-stone into another job. In fact, it is more often used for this purpose than for actually running.

Rand would be doing better if the field were smaller; but his views simply don't fit within the Republican Party.

All I'll say is that she is a real piece of work.

She isn't a pleasant person, and generally folks who know her dislike her. She is overly aggressive and dismissive of the opinions of people she works with who are known to disagree with her positions and she's quick to cast blame on subordinates.

If I have to hold my nose and vote for her, I would. But I'd never work for her campaign.

Well at least my outsider's perspective isn't totally off. :chuckle:

To be fair, Bill was one of the those rare politicians who came off not only as very smart but also as very likable. Most politicians don't even have one of those two. Look at the Republican field and tell me who fits one of those criteria, let alone both.

The Democratic field is only better because most of them at least appear to tick the smart box. :chuckle:

I get the feeling that her marriage to Bill is now strictly for show and for a political advantage. I am wrong?

Oh I know how rare that kind of politician is; that's why I said he was one of the best.

I'm just amazed at how many people talked themselves into her, but I guess that's because the rest of us in the party are busy talking ourselves into one of two crazy grandpas. :chuckle:

It really is a brutal class for both sides.

It's like, what else do we do? Vote Republican? Ugh.

It's kinda complicated.

I mean, what I'm saying is based on rumor and speculation from people who work in the various campaigns and in the administration, but, there is a general impression of how their relationship works.

The two of them love each other; that goes without saying. She loves her husband; always has, and Bill Clinton loves his wife. Apparently you can tell just being around them, as they do enjoy one another's company.

They are pees in a pod in the sense that they're very much alike each other, but Hillary is by far the more cynical, more vindictive, and more aggressive of the two.

With respect to their marriage, I mean, they have what most might consider a somewhat open relationship, AFAIK. Or, at least they had, until the impeachment. Bill Clinton had always had his own women on the side, and Hillary had her own men on the side.

It was no secret on Capitol Hill that Bill Clinton was sleeping with other women and the rumors were there that Hillary was doing the same thing.

The thing is, lots of politicians behave this way; as do many American couples.

Monogamy is not a required component of marriage; and many people are in marriages wherein they know full well that the other spouse is sleeping with other people. Personally, I've never been able to think that way, but I know people who do and that's fine. The point is that Monica was no secret from Hillary. She was upset, not at her husband, but at the Republicans for exposing Bill Clinton for what they themselves were doing.

That is why so many people spent millions uncovering dirt on GOP leaders in the Senate and House which brought down Henry Hyde and Bill Livingston, among others.

But the Clinton's marriage is what it is. I wouldn't say it's a marriage of convenience, nor would I say that Hillary would have ever left Bill, or vice versa. I don't think, from what I've heard, that either of them has any contempt for the other.

It's just.. a very different kind of marriage.
