2017 Browns Mock Draft Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Looking forward to hearing more about him:

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/...-east-west-shrine-game-nflpa-collegiate-bowl/

Lorenzo Jerome of FCS Saint Francis (Pa.) was arguably the day's biggest winner from either game, taking MVP honors in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl with two interceptions for the National team in a 27-7 loss to the Americans.

The 5-foot-10, 205-pound Jerome currently checks in seventh among free safeties on NFLDraftScout.com's board. Safety, as a whole, is one of the strongest positions in this year's draft class -- led by potential top-10 picks Jamal Adams (LSU), Malik Hooker (Ohio State) and Jabrill Peppers (Michigan). Those three safeties are as gifted as any we've seen since at least 2010, when future All-Pros Eric Berry and Earl Thomas earned early first-round selections by the Kansas City Chiefs and Seattle Seahawks.

Given his sterling career at Saint Francis, it surprised no one that Jerome earned MVP honors. It is difficult to describe Jerome's impact at Saint Francis and not reach into hyperbole. From the beginning, the Florida native wowed with his athleticism and instincts, intercepting six passes as a true freshman to earn the first of four consecutive years in which he earned all-conference honors.

His 18 career interceptions (including another six in 2016) led all FCS players and he was just as dynamic as a returner, finishing second in the country with a 28.9 yards-per-return average in 2016 after finishing first (31.2) as a junior. In his Saint Francis career, Jerome found the end zone eight times, in five different ways, with three kick return touchdowns, two interception returns, a punt return, a fumble return and a receiving touchdown.

Would anyone be opposed to drafting two safeties between the first few rounds? This kid could be a good idea with pick 52/our 3rd round pick. We need to upgrade our secondary and getting two legit safeties could be a way to do it.

You know what's really pathetic? I double checked the math and still fucked it up. :chuckle:

The Accountant/resident cap expert couldnt let it slide.

I wanted too, because it was truly pointless to point out, but I just couldnt.

The original post did make a great point about there will be talent at #12 no matter what though. Multiple top level players to pick from at that.

If one of them is a cover safety, ie a corner/safety combo or perfect nickel back, a 2nd will be needed.

Not only will I not mind, I think addressing the secondary with 2 picks in the first 3 or 4 rounds is important if a player is there we like.

I remember in the Gilbert/manziel draft a lot of browns fans didn't want to take Khalil Mack because that was our "strength" with Mingo and Kruger

3 years later we don't have either draft pick on the roster, Mingo was traded for a 6th rounder, Kruger was cut, and Mack is one of the best players in the league

Take the best player at every spot. I don't care if they're "redundant"

If Mike Williams is there at 12 don't pass on him (assuming the safeties and Thomas are gone) because of Coleman and Pryor

Who do you see Mike Williams' pro comp as? I don't think he is a Julio Jones/AJ Green type prospect, but I also don't know who I'd compare him to. Kelvin Benjamin maybe? Corey Davis reminds me a lot of Tyler Boyd, and I followed both pretty close in college.

It doesn't bode well for Mike Williams if his comp is a fairly average at best WR.

He honestly kind of reminds me of Gordon

He's a step slower, but I think he's also slightly better at "spectacular" catches

Kelvin Benjamin came into the league with a lot of questions about his work ethic. IIRC he skipped some workouts/meetings with NFL coaches because he was "tired" and dogged it in the 40 so he slid to Carolina. So, if you're looking at size/play style only, I suppose it works; however, Benjamin fell for good reasons that shouldn't be applied to Mike Williams at this point. Comps I've seen are Martavius Bryant, sans character issues, and Plaxico Burress.

CBS (Only reason I am putting this here is b/c of the 12th pick. I think I remember @Lee mentioning the same thing about Peppers. Plus, Kadar isn't falling for the Watson train at #1, which is good):

1. Cleveland Browns: Myles Garrett, DE, Texas A&M
The closer we get to the draft, the more this is starting to feel like a formality. It would have been interesting to see if things changed had Deshaun Watson chosen to play in the Senior Bowl and be coached by the Browns. For now, let’s assume the Browns get a new quarterback via a trade or free agency.

12. Cleveland Browns (via Philadelphia Eagles): Jabrill Peppers, S, Michigan
Some Browns fans may be tiring of seeing this pick, and see Peppers as a player who is sliding. However, he’s a perfect fit in Gregg Williams’ defense which often calls for a safety to work close to the line of scrimmage.

NFL.com (January 23rd):

1. Watson - Hue Jackson will love Watson's physical attributes and his leadership skills.
12. Foster - Foster is an athletic defensive leader
33. Cleveland Browns: Budda Baker, S, Washington
52. Cleveland Browns: Adoree' Jackson, CB, USC
65. Cleveland Browns: Cooper Kupp, WR, Eastern Washington

^---Swap out Myles for Watson and that is a strong as fuck start to the draft. Although he had Lattimore & Tabor still on the board at 12

Thanks, yes that was me that mentioned Peppers when Williams got hired.

I think it makes sense. I wasnt a big Peppers guy before, but he really is a perfect fit if Adams and Hooker are gone.

As for Watson at #1 overall? That is insanity and makes me disregard the whole NFL.com draft. Foster wont drop, baker will be a late first, and rather see a center than a 3rd round wr at this point.

But I agree if you swap out Garrett its a strong draft, just dont think they drop like that.

I see a lot of Alshon Jeffrey - guy was incredible high pointing the ball in college. I like Corey Davis a lot better honestly, he reminds me of Brandon Marshall.

Depends on 40 times, but I agree. Julio ran in the high 4.3's and is blazing speed to go along with his size, one of the top 3 WR prospects in the last decade and it shows on the field.

I like Mike Williams allot as a possession big receiver, dont know Corey Davis well enough to comment.

Personally I am not huge on WR in the first 3 picks, we need a safety so bad and I am assuming edge rusher is taken care of with Garrett which is our 2nd biggest need imo. (center could be addressed with injured players, free agency, or 3rd round, dont want another super early center)
