2017 Browns Mock Draft Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
DRAFTWIRE FULL 7-ROUND MOCK (So damn early, but AZ does one as well, so why the fuck not post it. It's for fun. This doesn't include our COMP picks):

1. Cleveland Browns: Myles Garrett, EDGE, Texas A&M
I’m not sold on Cody Kessler as a franchise quarterback, but I don’t think Hue Jackson will give up on him after just one year. I’m also not sold on any of the quarterback prospects in this class, but Garrett is far and away the top overall prospect in this class.

14. Cleveland Browns (from PHI): Quincy Wilson, CB, Florida
This year’s cornerback class is stacked with top talent, but in this scenario, the Browns still get their pick of the litter at this spot. Largely overshadowed by teammate Teez Tabor heading into this season, Wilson has established himself as one of the best cover men in the country. He would team up with former Gator Joe Haden to give the Browns a solid tandem on the outside.

33. Cleveland Browns: Christian McCaffrey, RB, Stanford

47. Cleveland Browns (from TEN): O.J. Howard, TE, Alabama

65. Cleveland Browns: Marcus Maye, S, Florida

128. Cleveland Browns: Malachi Dupre, WR, LSU

167. Cleveland Browns (from NE): Kevin Davis, LB, Colorado State

169. Cleveland Browns: Cooper Rush, QB, Central Michigan

200. Cleveland Browns: J.J. Dielman, OL, Utah

Fuck else we have to do during football season? :chuckle:

I sat around watching the ACC/B1G challenge and watching film for like four hours last night.

It's that time of year for Browns fans.

If Jonathan Allen turns into Aaron Donald and Myles Garrett turns into a 10 sack a year guy, who helps the Browns more? I don't think they could go wrong either way and I am liking Allen a bit more right now. Watching Garrett vs. Alabama didn't help...Cam Robinson sure looked good too, and he's not even listed in some mock drafts? What is that all about?

How upset would you be if the Browns traded down again? The Browns have a ton of holes, and analytically, it will be tempting if they are given another great package. You can't keep trading down, but is Garrett really as sure-fire as you think?

Given the two extra picks from the Eagles and Titans, and the compensatory picks on the way, if the Browns trade out of the top spot after making everyone suffer thru an 0-16 or 1-15 season then I hope the fan base riots and burns the building in Berea to the ground with everyone in it.

I've already semi-hoped on the Cowboys bandwagon thanks to Dak and Zeke. This would be the final straw for me.

So no O lineman until the 7th? I assume the plan is to address during FA?

How I Fix The Browns - Vol. 2

Not going to include free agency in this, simply because I don't know how they attract much of anything in that regard.

Draft:

1 (1) - Myles Garrett - EDGE - Texas A&M - Nothing changes here. Simply the best.

1 (12) - Jamal Adams - S - LSU - Really struggled between Adams and Malik McDowell, who I think it an elite interior defender not far behind Jonathan Allen. Adams is a secondary leader and intelligent player who fills gaps nicely and has good enough cover skills to warrant this selection. Ideally, you'd like to move back a few spots and still get him.

2 (32) - Ryan Ramczyk - OT - Wisconsin - Was incredibly efficient against what I feel is the best DL in the country against OSU (film linked). Very tactical, uses great leverage and can get outside or to the second level. Will have to answer questions about his commitment to the game, he turned down Wisky out of HS to stop playing before wanting to play again later.

2 (46) - Kevin King - CB - Washington - Still think he's the best CB on his team, even better than Sidney Jones. Had him in the fourth round last time, but he's clearly a bigger prospect now. Long, athletic and quick enough to stay with receivers.

3 (65) - Pat Elfein - G/C - Ohio State University - Tactician that is well coached and often gets to the second level. Struggles to maintain leverage at times, and could stand to get a bit quicker. But a line manager and easy starter at the next level to solidify the interior.

4 (Comp A) - Joshua Dobbs - QB - Tennessee - If you're looking for a potential "Next Dak," take a look at Dobbs. He's raw, athletic and intelligent with a quick release and superb leadership skills. This is a guy Hue Jackson can work with to develop his skills, while not using the high draft pick on guys who are similarly talented.

4 (Comp B) - Taywan Taylor - WR - Western Kentucky - If he gets to the combine and runs well, he's going higher than this. Deep speed and reliable hands

5 - Riley Bullough - ILB - Michigan State - Hard nosed guy that is a tenacious blitzer and fills gaps well, but can be fooled by misdirection and ends up out of position too much.

5 (NE) - Ryan Glasgow - DL - Michigan - I started watching film on Chris Wormley and walked away with this guy as a top notch contributor and value pick. He's got a non-stop motor and is incredibly well coached. Michigan moves him across all three interior gaps and he's a constant presence. Check out #96 in this film and tell me he's not a problem.

5 (Comp C) - Brandon Langley - CB - Lamar - Former wide receiver transferred from Georgia and converted. Has good side and really excellent speed and change of direction, but can show off he's new to the position with some awkward footwork at times.

6 - Alex Ross - RB - Oklahoma/Missouri - Taller, upright runner that is really hard to bring down and has good speed. Never lived up to the hype in college, but could be an interesting developmental guy behind Crow and Duke.

7 - Tarell Basham - DL - Ohio U - Really big and rangy guy who could put on some additional muscle and still show athleticism. Guy you coach into a contributor down the line.

Really interesting about Joshua Dobbs... I can definitely see it from an off-field perspective, the guy seems as good of a person and as well respected as any QB in America. My question is, do you think his natural accuracy can be improved on? I've always been underwhelmed by it just watching his games, although I haven't studied him closely enough to see if it's more of a mechanics problem or if he just doesn't have the natural feel for it.

Absolutely, he has been inconsistent in the timing routes which are better executed when he allows his receivers to gain YAC.

Ball placement is one thing that absolutely needs improved upon for him to be successful at the next level.

I've just grown enamored with the quick release and excellent throwing mechanics in addition to the athleticism.

There is definitely more arm strength in that frame as well as he matures.

Just an under the radar guy I'd like to attach to Hue Jackson, see what can happen in a year where the top of the QB class (Trubisky) is being compared to the likes of Alex Smith.

Yeah, arm strength looks more than adequate, especially if he can put a bit more weight on. And I have no doubt that he can pick up whatever complex schemes Hue can dial up, he's an aerospace engineer on top of his QB duties. To be honest, I'd rather take a flyer on guys like him with the raw tools and upside rather than guys like Kessler who will be physically limited even if everything breaks right.

Maybe it's me I don't feel comfortable drafting QBs in the early 20s, or from OK st.

This is both, no thanks

Honestly, haven't seen OKST at all this year.

He is a big dude though. 6'4-6'5", 240 LBS?

He seems to be popping up on a lot first round boards now in Nov/Dec.

I don't see any good breakdown videos on him, so I have no idea what to think.

His numbers against pressure look really good and coupling that with his accuracy, seems promising.

Who knows....the QB's this year are so up and down.

If it's any consolation, I doubt he can be worse than Weeden. :chuckle:

My fear is the accuracy. It is one thing that seldom improves going to the NFL

Not sure I'd agree with that at all.

Accuracy is based on timing with your wide receivers and attention to detail/improving mechanics.

Both of those things come with time in the NFL.

I did a spread sheet for myself tracking qb's a few years ago. It was because of Derek Anderson I did this, but it was about 40 or so qb's I tracked.

Really showed accuracy seldom improves, but the non NFL offenses can have false positives. So accuracy can decrease but not increase was my conclusion.

I would have been fantastic as part of a front office working on analytics. It is just my opinion, but one i sort of proved with numbers.

Not saying its 100%, but it has proven to be rather true since Derek Anderson.

If you're basing that off completion percentage, which is a false equivalency IMO, than you're likely not to answer that question as honestly as possible.
