2018-2019 Tank Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I hope Dan does go postal and trade all these fuckers outta here for picks. He won't be able to stomach the defense and losing long.

The big problem here is that we are unfortunately in ride it out territory. None of the guys we have are worth much in draft capital, save Love (regardless of what the people in the Love thread tell you).

The other guys are just overpaid has-beens who aren't going to garner any type of real compensation (as it pertains to picks). Our only hope is targeting a luxury tax team, probably next summer, that would attach a young player to salary in exchange for J.R., who they would just cut as a non guaranteed salary.

The next 24 months will be painful IMO. Thankfully, it looks like we will be so miserable that we will keep our pick. If Cedi emerges as, lets say a 3rd best player on a good team, then you are at least headed somewhere (if you hit on your 2019 selection).

We're not going to beat Brooklyn tonight, and I appreciate those that are optimistic enough to believe that we will.

Talent wise, sure, we may have the same or even greater talent.

Atkinson > Lue and it's not even close.

Not to mention we're the 2nd worst defending team in the NBA right now and I have a feeling after tonight we'll be #1.

I think these guys below have some value. It's not returning a 1st round pick but I don't think we need to attach anything.

George Hill - $19,000,000 but only $1 million guaranteed if waived on or before 7/2/19
J.R. Smith - $15,680,000 but only $3.9 million guaranteed if waived on or before 6/30/19
Kyle Korver - $7,500,000 but only $3.44 million guaranteed if waived on or before 7/7/19

If you make it to the 2020-2021 season then we only have Love, Nance, Sexton, Zizic and the 2019 +2020 rookies under contract. I'm going to assume we'll probably extend Cedi Osman in 2020.

Kevin Love (32 years old) - $31,258,256
Larry Nance Jr. (27 years old) - $11,709,091
Collin Sexton (21 years old) - $4,991,880 (TO)
Ante Zizic (23 years old) - $3,872,215 (TO)
2019 Rookie
2020 Rookie
Cedi Osman (25 years old) -
RFA

Like @I'mWithDan said it's a 2 year plan and by the end of it, I just hope Love is in one piece, Sexton and the other two rookies pan out (assuming we've kept the picks in consecutive seasons) and Cedi continues to improve.

I was surprised JR Smith and Korver were out of the rotation as the coaching staff and FO were talking about making the playoffs as the 7th or 8th seed. I'm not upset they're back in because we need to advertise them as the good shooters potential playoff teams are missing.

Korver, JR and Frye won't stop the Cavs from getting their ass kicked. THEY PLAY NO FUCKING DEFENSE.

It makes no sense to me to hinder the young players to compete for the 8th seed. Not sure why they didn't give the keys to Sexton along with Cedi and Love. Fuck is the point in playing him 20 minutes a game with a fucking CHUCK-ER in CLARKSON? He stands in the corner and barely gets involved until the second half.

I still don't understand why Zizic isn't getting 25 minutes a game.

TT/LOVE
ZIZ/NANCE

Dekker is shit! He ain't the fucking future here.

I agree with alot of what you said. I think one thing that Korver, JR, and Frye gives are legit 3 point shooting threats to allow Sexton to develop properly. Giving Sexton a modern offense to learn and grow from should be one of the highest priorities for this team.

I've said this multiple times, Clarkson is just a huge problem for rotations and lineups with this current roster. Until Sexton is ready to take over the starting spot, I still think the best thing is to bench Clarkson.

Fuck it give me Zion I don’t care if he’s worse than Barrett as a prospect that man is so damn exciting to watch (and he’s also legitimately good so it’s not like he couldn’t develop in to a star either)

We are probably more talented than Brooklyn.

But Atkinson is such a good coach.

Are they though? LeVert, Harris, Crabbe and (when healthy) Carroll are better than any of the wings the Cavs have (save Cedi. I think he's better than Crabbe and Harris... not LeVert though). Russell and Dinwiddie are easily better than the Cavs' point guards. Love is more talented offensively than any of their bigs, but that's about it. Brooklyn definitely has the edge in big depth.

I just think people seriously overestimate the "talent" the Cavs have.

Clarkson is talented. He is not of much use anyway but the offensive talent is there. And again it comes down to the coach. The coach should be able to fit him in to make a net positive.

Should he? The league has been riddled with Jordan Clarksons for decades, and it seems they almost always need very specific situations for their type of basketball to benefit the team.

I'd argue the Cavs, as currently constructed, are not that team no matter who's coaching them.

3 games in is probably an over-reaction but..... after getting destroyed by Atlanta, who's ASS, at home.... yeh, I'm on the tank train.

To my credit, I was on the tank train in the offseason. It was Dan who foolishly thought we had enough to still compete and make the playoffs.

he just needs bodies in his casinos to sever the hit he is about to take in the coming years. we blew this years draft , my prediction 12-70... 1st overall pick

I think the ideal team for Clarkson is a team that is top heavy and struggles to put together enough rotation players for a second unit. The Cavs aren't that kind of team, we have 13 or 14 player that would be in another teams rotation.

The Sixers had to gut their whole team and sign all min contracts to do this shit. We look like an all time tank squad with league average payroll. That isn’t easy!

Lmao I overestimated these goons

Still think we should be in asset accumulation mode

No reason for Korver to be on this team at all. Love isn’t going to be around on the other end of this rebuild and someone will delude themselves into thinking they’re a Kevin Love away from beating the Warriors.

Dan clearly is very stupid and thinks this team is going to work without ripping it down to the studs. The good news is the team looks bad enough that it may not even need to tank to have a top 7-8 pick

Cavs are the New York Giants of basketball.
